CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles is looking to hire a Municipal Project Manager to take the reins on capital improvement and infrastructure projects, according to a job announcement released this week by the town’s Human Resources Department.
The full-time, exempt leadership position will report directly to the Town Manager and will be responsible for shepherding projects from initial concept through completion. Duties include working with department heads to plan facility replacements and service improvements, helping develop the town’s multi-year Capital Improvement Program and annual capital budget, managing the acquisition and delivery of capital projects, negotiating capital leases, and evaluating economic development initiatives tied to major public or private infrastructure investment.
The role also carries oversight of the town’s risk management program, including insurance claims and renewals, and requires regular attendance at Town Council meetings.
Candidates must have experience in or closely related to project management, demonstrated leadership working with multi-disciplinary teams, strong communication and conflict-resolution skills, and familiarity with acquisition processes for design, engineering, and construction services. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is also required.
Town officials say preferred candidates would bring a background in construction management, knowledge of the Virginia Public Procurement Act, experience administering state and federal grants, a bachelor’s degree in a related field such as public policy, business, or construction management, and prior local government experience.
The position offers a salary range of $70,000 to $76,500, depending on qualifications, along with a benefits package that includes participation in the Virginia Retirement System.
The job will remain open until filled, but the town says interviews won’t begin until after Aug. 1.
Interested applicants must submit a cover letter, resume, and a completed Town Employment Application to Human Resources at P.O. Box 191, 412 Tazewell Ave., Cape Charles, VA 23310, or by email to humanresources@capecharles.org. The town noted that applications submitted without a completed Town Employment Application will not be considered.
Questions about the position can be directed to the Cape Charles HR Department at 757-331-3259, ext. 11.
