Cape Charles Town Manager Message on Budget, Capital Projects

April 17, 2022 by Wayne Creed 1 Comment

Is it just me, or was it an unusually long Winter and cool Spring so far? I’m not sure, but it does seem like a real Spring has finally arrived. Everything is now blooming, and temps are more comfortable, and as most of you settle in to enjoy this time of year, for us here in Town Hall, this season also means it’s budget time. The next fiscal year will begin on July 1 (FY23) and we’re gearing up to get this work underway.

Unique to this budget year discussion will include a couple of key items. First is how the Town will use our American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. We also have some fairly high-cost capital projects in the queue. And of course, there are the fairly aggressive new reassessments on property that will come into play this year. The Mayor and Town Council will begin tackling all of this in a series of work sessions starting on Thursday, May 5th, and continue every Thursday in May until we get it all done.

Just a reminder about work sessions, these are open for the public to come and observe but are not live-streamed. These meetings are meant to be relaxed discussions without any formal action. All official actions will come back during a regular or special meeting, where the public will be able to offer comments and view proceedings remotely on Facebook. However, all materials used at the work sessions will be available online, and the public is encouraged to review this information. Anyone wishing to offer input can do so by providing it in writing to the Town Clerk at least one hour before the start of each work session.

I’m also available to answer any questions residents might have, about the budget, or anything else. Just shoot me an email or call Town Hall to schedule an appointment. In the meantime, please get out there and soak up all this great weather and try to enjoy all that this cool little Town has to offer.
