FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – What if you could eliminate some major obstacles from the path of a college education? Financial aid and scholarships can help address monetary impediments, but many find pursuing their educational goals difficult due to work schedules and family obligations, that simply don’t mesh with Monday through Friday class schedules.
This was part of the inspiration for Dr. Kimberly Britt, Vice President of Academics and Student Affairs at ESCC, to come up with the new “Take 13” initiative. “Take 13” derives its name from the thirteen credits that can be acquired through two, eight- week sessions at ESCC. What answers the aforementioned quandary of balancing work, family, and school, is that these classes are offered on Saturdays. A student can be enrolled full-time, with only a one day a week commitment.
The Saturday offering comprises the basic composition of classes needed for many of the programs of study available at ESCC. A follow-up to these thirteen credits will be offered, so that at the end of the spring semester, the student would be half way to completing an associate degree, all done through one day per week classes.
Financial aid is available for most students, and Student Services can help individuals plan their course of study and assist in all areas of enrollment. Individuals are encouraged to contact the college as soon as possible, as classes are filling quickly. Fall classes begin Thursday, August 18th, with “Take 13” launching the following Saturday, August 20th.
