First National Night Out for Northampton County will be accompanied by a Party in the Park with entertainment and guest appearance by McGruff the Crime Dog

Exmore, VA (July 12, 2016) – The Town of Exmore Police Department invites residents of Exmore and surrounding communities to participate in the kick-off of Northampton’s first National Night Out, set for August 2, 2016, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Celebrated nationwide, National Night Out is designed to strengthen community spirit by providing one night a year for citizens to get to know their neighbors and their local law enforcement officers. The event heightens awareness of crime and drug prevention efforts while sending a message to the criminal element that citizens are organized and ready to work in unity to keep their streets and neighborhoods safe. The local event is co-sponsored by the Town of Exmore Police Department in partnership with the National Association of Town Watch.
Police Chief Angelo DiMartino is asking Exmore residents to join other towns across the country in locking their doors, turning on their outside lights and spending the evening outside with neighbors and members of the police department. “It’s a big block party with an important purpose,” said Chief DiMartino. “We want the people of Exmore to get to know each other and the police officers who serve them. We also want everyone to have a good time.”
That good time includes a festival atmosphere at the Exmore Town Park, located on Main Street, with bouncy houses for the children, food trucks, music provided by DJD Productions and more. McGruff the Crime Dog will pay a visit, and Sheriff David Doughty from the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office will have deputies on hand to assist with IDENT-A-KID fingerprinting, a child safety program.
Now in its 33rd year, the annual National Night Out involves over 16,728 communities from all 50 U.S. states and territories plus Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, more than 38.3 million people are expected to participate this year. Exmore is the only town on the Eastern Shore of Virginia scheduled to participate.
