VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Missy Cotter Smasal – a Navy veteran, former small business owner, and mom – released the following statement after Virginia Democrats took back the House of Delegates and held the Virginia State Senate.
“Reasonable, responsible, and respectable beat extremism in Virginia last night. Our great Commonwealth made clear we will not allow far-right politicians to ban our fundamental rights and freedoms.
“Coastal Virginians delivered the House and Senate majority, because our communities are tired of extreme politicians like my opponent Jen Kiggans who continues to embrace and endorse a far-right agenda in Congress. We deserve leaders focused on solving problems, strengthening our economy, supporting our veterans, and securing our rights.
“Today, we celebrate our victories, and tomorrow, our fight continues as we work to take back Virginia’s Second Congressional district next November. We can accomplish great things together.”
Missy Cotter Smasal served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy and deployed aboard the U.S.S. Trenton during Operation Enduring Freedom. After her active duty service, Missy started a small business in Virginia Beach, Rita’s Shore Drive, which she owned and operated for more than 10 years.
Missy currently serves as the Virginia Citizen Representative on the Chesapeake Bay Commission, a bipartisan commission that has achieved consistently strong and effective results in pursuit of Bay restoration goals.
Missy is running for Congress to fight for coastal Virginians, military families, and veterans. She will stand up for our local values and priorities, and push back against extreme politicians in DC.
