VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Missy Cotter Smasal – a Navy veteran, former small business owner, and mom – released the following statement to honor the brave men and women who have served our nation on Veterans Day.
“As a proud Virginian, Navy veteran, and the director of a nonprofit that honors fallen servicewomen, I am reminded every day of the brave women and men who have served our country in uniform.
“We must continue to honor our veterans by ensuring we honor our commitments to their benefits, well-being, and healthcare, and to create opportunities to help them, and their families, thrive as they transition to civilian life.
“Virginia’s veterans deserve leaders who will never take their sacrifice for granted. Just days away from a government shutdown that would force our active-duty servicemembers to work without pay, Veterans Day is a pressing reminder that Congress has the obligation to act responsibly and decisively for those serving or who have served.”
