EXMORE – Bushels of succulent local oysters; thousands of juicy sweet clams, plus freshly cooked pulled pork ready for tasting. It’s time for the Exmore Rotary’s Annual Soule Arnold Oyster Roast, with plenty of food, friends and networking for a good cause. The feasting, and the fun, begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening, October 20, under the big white tent in the Exmore Town Park.
The all-you-can-eat extravaganza is one of two annual fundraising events for the Exmore Rotary, with all money earned flowing back into the community to meet local needs. According to Rotary Club spokesperson, the club currently supports 20 different service organizations on the ESVA. Last year’s event reached capacity early, attracting attention and guests from as far away as Texas.
Holding to its long-established tradition of “all-you-can-eat”, the 2017 Soule Arnold Oyster Roast features trays overflowing with seaside oysters, steamed “nick” clams accompanied by melted butter, and pulled pork BBQ freshly prepared by Rotary members the day of the event. The white tent, oysters and clams are provided by Eastern Shore Events and Rentals, in Exmore, VA. Mac ‘n Chees, turnips greens and other sides are prepared by the Exmore Diner. The “bottomless” kettles of clam chowder are prepared and provided by local watermen. As a finale, guests can load up on the sumptuous desserts organized by Terry Loring.
In addition to feasting on this plethora of food, attendees can participate in a silent auction and 50/50. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. cash bar. Organizer, Tommy Arnold, is expecting another sell-out for this event targeted to building stronger communities on the ESVA. “Tickets are available now,” says Arnold, “but at just $45 for all you can eat oysters and clams, they are going fast.”
