Join the hearing to offer comments on the proposed budget, as well as changes to the tax and utility rates. Send written comments via email Libby Hume @ clerk@capecharles.org or hand deliver them to Town Hall, 2 Plum Street.
The proposed Fiscal Year 2023 budget and all tax and rate changes will be discussed and brought to a vote at the Town Council Regular Meeting on June 16, 2022:
Good people of Cape Charles!
Now is the time to bring your tar and feathers to the meeting!
Oh wait, … there is no good people left.
Interestingly, while Cape Charles is perceived as a “tourist town,” less than one-third of our General Fund revenue is actually derived from our tourist related taxes.
Instead of being just “ interesting “, perhaps we might entertain the idea of increasing these rates, perhaps double them. I don’t think is would have any impact on the number of “summer people” swarming the town each year. And reducing the tax of the real residents would make the yearly invasion more palatable .
