A rising number of conflicts between the growing oyster aquaculture industry, riparian property owners, and submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) habitat led to this new tool. CCRM and the VIMS Molluscan Ecology program created an interactive platform about oyster aquaculture in Virginia. Results from a study of oyster productivity and management boundaries helped determine if there is opportunity for aquaculture expansion in Virginia without generating new or added conflict.
The Virginia Oyster Productivity Information Tool (2021) has nine information cards with visual maps, graphics and mini-reports related to oyster aquaculture. A map viewer displays most of the data layers covered in these reports.
