Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus officially closed their doors back in May 2017, a momentous event for animals and animal rights advocates across the world. Now, the iconic Nabisco crackers that were named after the circus have redesigned their box in response to the growing opposition to the use of wild animals for human entertainment.
Most of us at some point during our childhood had the pleasure of experiencing the iconic crackers and can recall the box vividly: red and yellow with various wild animals behind the bars of a boxcar headed to the circus. As a child, you likely didn’t think too much about it, but that simple exposure to the idea that wild animals somehow belonged in cages or in the circus was a ubiquitous part of our culture. Now, thanks to rising awareness and education, this is no longer the case!
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) sent a letter to Nabisco acknowledging the need for a redesign and why the company should “free” the animals after more than 115 years.
Kimberley Fontes, spokeswoman for Nabisco’s parent company Mondelēz International, shared that the move was an effort to keep the company up with the times: “To continue to make the brand relevant for years to come, we felt this was the right time for the next evolution in our design, now showing the animals in a natural habitat.”
The new box design maintains its original essence but now features a zebra, elephant, lion, giraffe, and gorilla wandering side-by-side in a grassland with acacia trees in the distance. It was a long time coming, but this change is symbolic of the changing public perception when it comes to animal exploitation and the use of wild animals in circuses. PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman celebrated the change, stating, “The new box for Barnum’s Animals crackers perfectly reflects that our society no longer tolerates the caging and chaining of wild animals for circus shows.”
As simple as the box redesign may seem, it speaks volumes for a future of compassionate consumers who see animals as living beings who share this Earth and deserve to live free from human greed. This change is another step in the right direction for all and continues the long line of brands making smart transitions to accommodate conscious consumers.

They are taxpayer-funded handouts and shouldn’t be called Entitlements at all. But, Social Security and Veterans Benefits are Entitlements because the people receiving them are entitled to them. They were earned and paid for by the recipients.

Blue Hoss, you must have a raging headache from all that thinking! You kind of remind me of the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz…You know, whiling away the hours…conferring with the flowers, unraveling every riddle for every individual. Well, if only.
I think the point most missed is that Nabisco Company, yeah that Nabisco, was also behind the idea 100% that the bars had to go. It was good for the company’s image for one. But, for you out there who are a little slow on the uptake, many, if not most human individuals (working on those riddles there Blue) can ascertain (see, figure out: for those of you without dictionaries) that animals are a larger, more important part of our world, other than being food. And what about that the biblical phrase Genesis 1:26-30 where God gives man dominion over the earth? Try reading it sometime. With stewardship comes a great responsibility. If you read this verse closely (with understanding), you will find that God commands, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of the Earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” Clearly, he is not offering up animal life for food. Ah, but what do I know? But wait, there is this in Proverbs 12:10 “Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel.” So, to me, it seems perfectly obvious, though we have dominion over the animals, nothing gives us the right to grow, harvest and eat them as though they were plants. It is our God given obligation to protect, not eliminate the species we are in charge of. But, sadly, this is lost on some.
And one last aside, Mr. Bell…so, you are still so sick of liberal agendas, huh? Well, as far as I can tell, putting living creatures behind bars appears to be the Repugnatan’s agenda, not those stinking librubs’ you love to hate. I am seeing that prison statistics are up again in 2018. Not to mention the number of small children taken from their parents and incarcerated by ICE and the Repugnatan immigration agenda. Yeah, you and your boy blue are way off the mark. You two are a real pair of snowflakes. Get over yourselves. Animal Crackers indeed!
We cut down poor trees for a tradition called Christmas….maybe we should save the trees. We use hearts with arrows and fatty chocolate to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day…..maybe that is too unhealthy or morbid. We kill poor turkeys to celebrate Thanksgiving……maybe we should save those poor birds. See, we do these things out of tradition. It reminds us of better times.

Gender identity is vastly different than biological gender. Just want to put that out there. Gender equality is what we (liberals) are striving for. The march (during Trump’s inauguration) was for several causes. One, to show solidarity for women’s issues and two to show solidarity that a majority of the people of this nation cannot and will not accept the legitimacy of the present administration. Trying to explain all this to you is like repeating the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. And we all know where that leads…
Why do men continue to pay women less for the same job? Taken a look at the job market statistics lately? Look at the number of female engineers compared to figures in the 1980’s, for example. Yet, the pay difference still remains. Why is that?
Do you have a child with a severe health condition? Are you a struggling parent working two jobs to afford the proper health care for said child? If not, shut up.
