The Town of Cape Charles unveils its Community Strategic Plan. The town is required to have and update a Comprehensive Plan, however, Comp Plans can be generally complex, and almost too rigid to realistically implement.
The town wanted a more fluid and flexible tool to guide future growth and prosperity, hence the creation of the Strategic Plan.
The goal of the plan is to express “community values, to develop a vision for our future, and to shape the strategies needed to get them there. Overall, it is meant “to represent the character and priorities of the town, which can be updated every year.

Preserve our historical, natural, and cultural resources, while fostering a sense of community that enhances well-being and prosperity, now and for
generations to come.
The major goals of the plan are listed below:
• To retain the small-town character of Cape Charles
Metric: citizen confirmation in annual survey
• To maintain the authentic character of the historic district
Metric: maintain status on the national registry and a satisfactory audit
from the Dept of Historic Resources
• To protect and maintain the beach
Metric: no degradation via annual survey
• To protect and maintain the harbor
Metric: maintain/increase occupancy
• To plan for coastal resiliency
Metric: develop an implementable plan
• To protect and improve public green/open space infrastructure
Metric: develop an implementable plan
• To retain and expand businesses in a business-friendly environment
Metric: increase in business licenses, increase in business-related taxes,
and data from building permits issued and an annual questionnaire on
employment
• To advance a variety of housing options for younger families and workforce
Metric: increase in related census data
• To meet our residents’ expectation for Town services
Metric: minimal complaints (annual survey)

Sounds very good, but will the existing town council make it happen. That is the Question.
They need to clean up where people walk to get to the beach put some thing there for people to walk down the beach the sand is to much to walk that long way to get to the water especially when it’s really hot outside the sand burns your feet

Just curious how the Town will accomplish and implement this. Will the Town be building affordable housing within the town limits? Judging from the housing prices within the Town now, not sure this would qualify as “affordable or workforce housing.”
Is there anyone in here who can intelligently articulate what the “community values” of Cape Charles really are?
That is something the candid world would like to see in print.
It would be an interesting list is our thought.
Scotiagirl needs a clear definition of “coastal resiliency,” to include how this may differ from ” protecting and maintaining, ” the beach and the harbour.
