Cape Charles, Va-The Cape Charles Planning Commission and Town Council are set to convene for a joint work session on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. The primary focus of this meeting will be the initial discussion on Section 13 of the Sign Ordinance, specifically addressing Heavy and Light Industrial District Signs.

Planning & Zoning Administrator Updates
The Planning & Zoning Administrator has been actively working on several critical items, providing updates and preparing necessary documentation for the upcoming joint session:
Subdivision Plat Review
There are ongoing reviews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VAW) concerning subdivision plats for Bay Creek Village F-1 and the Washington Avenue – Dreams by the Water subdivision. Additionally, the Taylor Bank Site Plan and several residential building permit applications are in transition.
Agenda Packet and Zoning Map
The agenda packet for the joint work session, finalized and posted on May 25, 2024, includes proposed zoning ordinance amendments. The updated zoning map now reflects all changes made in 2023, including subdivision names and roads, and has been distributed for display and website updates.
Coastal Sand Dunes Permits
Staff from the Virginia Marine Resource Commission (VMRC) conducted site visits to review two permits issued by the Town relative to coastal sand dunes. The Town has been requested to re-issue a permit at 107 Sunset Blvd as an Exemption Approval Letter. Additionally, VMRC is reviewing an application for a storage unit placement at the southern beach area off the dunes for consistency with the Coastal Sand Dunes Act.
Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act Compliance
The Town received notification from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) regarding its compliance with the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act. As part of the review process, the Town will undergo a compliance review, with the first meeting scheduled for June 21, 2024. Preparations are underway to compile all necessary documentation for this review.
