CAPE CHARLES, Va. (AP) — Cape Charles is gearing up for its biggest annual event, the July 4th celebration, which continues to grow each year. Last year, the town saw a record-breaking attendance of over 10,000 people, and this year promises an even larger turnout.
Julie Pruitt, assistant to the town manager, has been at the helm of organizing this grand event, dedicating months to coordinating the efforts of various departments, organizations, and volunteers.
With the influx of visitors, safety remains a top priority, prompting the reimplementation of last year’s successful protocols:
Street Closures:
- All of Bay Avenue and Mason Avenue up to Harbor Avenue will be closed from 5:00 a.m., allowing only vendors to set up their booths.
- Mason Avenue, up to Peach Street, will remain closed from 5:00 a.m. until noon.
- Washington Avenue will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
- Over 60 vendors are expected this year, setting up early in the morning. A vendor check-in station will be located at the corner of Bay and Jefferson Avenues.
Parade Registration:
- With the parade expanding annually, registration requirements have been reinstated. All registered participants must check in with staff at Washington Avenue and Fig Street by 9:30 a.m. to be placed in line. Latecomers and non-registrants will not be accommodated.
In addition to the July 4th Parade and the Craft & Artisan Street Fair, attendees can look forward to over 20 food vendors along Bay Avenue, kids face painting, a cornhole tournament, a teen basketball tournament, an afternoon movie at the Palace Theater, and live music at the Beach Pavilion by the Tidewater Concert Band, DJ Sleepy, and DJ Leland City.
As Cape Charles anticipates another record-breaking celebration, the community is ready to welcome visitors for a day filled with festivities, food, and fun.
Come drink the Kool aid.
They claim that they have banned Fireworks. http://www.capecharlesmirror.com/cape-charles-has-implemented-a-temporary-ban-on-fireworks/
Ohhhh, that’s right, rule for me and rules for thee. Typical liberal thought process.
Stuart,
I see fireworks lit from GolfCarts are exempt.
They could only have an “Interaction”.
I see Mr Mayor allowed American Flags to drag the ground throughout the entire parade.
