CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Public Works team has announced a series of updates highlighting their ongoing efforts to maintain and improve community infrastructure. The team has recently welcomed a new hire, Nate, who has begun training and integrating into the department.
In preparation for the upcoming summer season, the Public Works team has started cleaning the beach and plans to increase the frequency of these cleanings over the next two weeks. Significant progress has been made in relocating the town archives, with approximately 90% of the job completed. Additionally, light poles, fixtures, and associated parts for the Peach Street project have been successfully delivered to the designated laydown area.
Recent accomplishments by the Public Works team include:
- Completion of several work orders
- Clearing sand from the fishing pier and adjacent sidewalk
- Repairing a short section of the fishing pier
- Completing repairs on the beach cleaner and returning it to service
- Performing regular brush and yard debris pick-ups, with six truckloads (approximately 1,020 cubic yards) of brush taken for recycling
- Maintaining daily trash pick-ups for all 48 municipal trash cans
- Managing residential trash can maintenance, including the delivery of eight new cans, repair of two lids, and servicing nine reserve cans
The team has also been busy with grass cutting across various locations, including the town office, civic center, Fig Street corner lot, Keck wells, public works storage yard, and the beach bath house.
