The Cape Charles Town Council is moving forward with the approval of a new police vehicle, funded by the US Department of Agriculture Rural Development Agency.
The approval for the purchase of the police vehicle was originally included in the FY 2024 budget resolution passed by the Town Council. However, delays in the USDA RD standard processes meant that the approval for this budgeted item was only recently received.
The approved application allows for the acquisition of a new police vehicle and associated equipment, with the total amount allocated standing at $43,000.
As part of the USDA Rural Development requirements, the Town Council is mandated to pass a resolution officially accepting the grant of $15,000 and loan of $28,000, along with the accompanying obligations and stipulations. Additionally, the resolution grants authority to the town manager to sign the necessary contractual documents, streamlining the administrative process.
With the resolution passed, the town anticipates expedited progress toward acquiring the police vehicle.

Why would Cape Charles need to purchase a new police vehicle? Did their new white pickup truck get a boo boo? They also just purchased two new officers right before they suspended two. I say purchased and not hired because they act like they own someone. And maybe the police vehicles would still have good miles left on them if they actually got off their asses and walked the beat.
Also why does the town need 9 officers? Exmore has 7 and they get the job done 10x better than Cape Charles.
Instead of buying a new vehicle, take it to a real mechanic. Like the ones exmore uses. I mean they don’t have to constantly purchase new vehicles. And why does building and code have a vehicle that costs more than a police vehicle?

Exmore – the hub of weekend activity. lol
Editor’s Note: How to say you’re and out-of-touch elitist without saying it. Do better.
J Wheaton says
Elitist? No. Someone is trying to compare Exmore’s PD with Cape Charles’s PD and you can’t based on the differing influx of tourists and the number of bars. Are you saying they are comparable?
Exmore has 2 State roads down the middle of it – 13 and Bus 13 which the State Police cover.
Editor’s Note: Dude, you know nothing about Northampton County. Please stay inside your nice CC bubble where you’ll be safe. Oh no, forgot, during tourist season, Cape Charles is the new E. Baltimore and you need this level of police presence to protect folks like you. Just stop.

I’ve long since given up on trying to understand The Cape Charles Town Council clique but why does money from our Department of Agriculture go to Cape Charles for anything?
Poppy Longjohns says
Personally I think cape charles needs bicycle cops. No need for so many police officers and police cars in such a small town.
Barbara Penn says
Actually a great idea. You can get a decent bike for a hundred bucks. Or better yet some of those HOKA running shoes. They may even get their 10,000 steps in!
Also, take away those over used tazers and issue some old fashion night sticks.
Just trying to save a few buckeroo’s for the town.
Poppy Longjohns says
Idk. Maybe they should just be flashlight cops since two are suspended for alleged excessive force.
Barbara Penn says
A good thought on the flash lights. But I was thinking that the night sticks would be cheaper in the long run due to the savings CC will gain by not having to purchase batteries for these two types of devices.
