CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles is moving forward with improvements to public restroom access as a new ADA-compliant portable restroom trailer is scheduled to be installed on Mason Avenue by April 1.
In January 2026, the town purchased the upgraded portable restroom trailer to replace the aging unit commonly referred to as the “Silver Bullet,” which has served visitors and residents for years. The new trailer includes accessibility features, handwashing sinks, and upgraded facilities designed to better accommodate increased tourism and community events.

Earlier this week, Cape Charles Public Works crews removed the Silver Bullet from Mason Avenue to prepare the site for the new installation. Town officials say the new restroom trailer will be fully operational by early April.
The town also plans to extend the life of the older unit. The Silver Bullet will be reconditioned and relocated to the north end of the beachfront, providing additional restroom capacity in another high-traffic area.
Current Public Restroom Locations
While installation work is underway, public restrooms remain available at:
- Cape Charles Memorial Library, 201 Mason Avenue
- South end of the beachfront
- East entrance of Central Park along Plum Street
Permanent Restroom Facility Planned
The portable trailer is part of a broader restroom improvement strategy. The town has also leased a portion of 7 Strawberry Street for a permanent public restroom facility. Interior construction is expected to begin soon, with a targeted opening date of July 1, 2026.
Town officials say the combination of upgraded portable units and a permanent downtown facility will significantly improve restroom availability for residents, visitors, and special events.
