The latest developments in Cape Charles’s community projects and infrastructure initiatives reflect a blend of progress, challenges, and strategic planning as the town moves forward with its revitalization efforts.
The commencement of work on the east side curb & gutter for Phase 3 of the Community Trail project marks a significant step forward in enhancing the town’s recreational amenities. Simultaneously, the contractor has initiated the placement of concrete forms on the west side, signaling steady progress in this crucial development.
The Capital Projects Manager attended the bi-weekly Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) progress review. Staff also approved change orders, aimed at improving drainage with valley gutters and addressing the closure of additional underground storage tanks, which are also in effect.
However, challenges persist, with the project currently running four weeks behind schedule. Despite this setback, efforts to mitigate delays and streamline operations remain ongoing.
In other infrastructure news, the completion of the Inner Harbor Bulkhead Rehabilitation project represents a milestone in waterfront revitalization efforts. With Langley & McDonald slated to conduct the final inspection next week, anticipation mounts for the project’s official conclusion and its positive impact on the town’s aesthetic appeal and maritime infrastructure.
Concurrently, discussions regarding the Visitors Center & Restrooms project are underway, with one contractor providing estimates as the town explores opportunities for enhancing its tourist amenities.
Collaboration with the Cape Charles Marine dockmaster aims to bolster maritime infrastructure and support the town’s recreational and economic activities along its scenic waterfront.
Research and coordination efforts are underway regarding real property deeds, subdivision plats, and easements pertinent to the pending sale of utility systems to Virginia American Water (VAW).
