VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Today, Congressman Steny Hoyer (MD-05) announced his endorsement of Missy Cotter Smasal, candidate for Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District. Congressman Hoyer is the latest endorser to join Cotter Smasal’s impressive list of over 40+ state and local elected officials endorsing her campaign for this key battleground district.
Only weeks ago was Cotter Smasal’s campaign added to the DCCC’s highly competitive Red to Blue program for the 2024 cycle, signifying this Biden-won district and her candidacy as a key path to securing a Democratic House Majority.
Missy Cotter Smasal is challenging vulnerable Republican freshman incumbent Jen Kiggans, who has a long track record of putting partisan party politics and extremism before the veterans, servicemembers, and Coastal Virginia families she was elected to represent. Jen Kiggans has embraced the far-right chaos dominating her caucus, and has aligned herself with Republican fringe extremists like Majorie Taylor Green, notorious election denier Elise Stefanik, and radical Speaker Mike Johnson.
“Missy Cotter Smasal is the only candidate who has what it takes to deliver for families in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District,” said Congressman Steny Hoyer. “As a Navy veteran and former small business owner, Missy understands the needs of Coastal Virginia and I know she will be an invaluable partner in Congress.”
“It’s an honor to receive Congressman Steny Hoyer’s endorsement in our campaign for Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District,” said Missy Cotter Smasal. “Congressman Hoyer is a dedicated public servant and advocate for his community, and I look forward to working closely with him in Congress.”

Imho this cannot be true. Steny Hoyer must be at least 115 years old? That old Democrat tick has been sucking on the government teat since I was a teenager in politically crime infested Maryland.
Funny how a segment of our population claims to be hurt by the thought of slavery, but continues to pass someone elses’s last name on to their children…many time it is the last name of the family that owned their ancestors.
By the way, what is a ‘Steny’?
What?? Commies sticking together?? Say it ain’t so!! LMAO!!
Funny when you see ‘Community Leader’ by a name, it is easy to guess their race. Nothing is 100% but you will be right 99% of the time.
No, you don’t see too many white folks calling themselves ‘Community Leaders’.
Why do black folks need so many ‘Community Leaders’ ???
Northam on the list should tell you all you need to know
