The Country Gentlemen Tribute Band will perform at Cokesbury Church and Cultural Center
in Onancock at 7 pm, Saturday, March 16. The five-member ensemble devotes itself to the
continuation of the Country Gentlemen bluegrass sound that rose to popularity in the 50’s and
60’s under the leadership of guitarist Charlie Waller.
The Tribute band is the outgrowth of a jam session in 2005, when Bill Yates, a 20-year
member of the Country Gentlemen, met Darren Beachley and David Propst at a Cabin Fever
Picking Party in Hampton. Although Yates died in 2015, he leaves behind an historic legacy
of bluegrass music, which the Tribute band is committed to making available for posterity.
In addition to Beachley (resophonic guitar and vocal) and Propst (mandolin and vocal), the
current line-up includes Mike Phipps (guitar and lead vocal), Lynwood Lunsford (banjo and
vocal) and Kyle Windbeck (acoustic bass and vocal). The ensemble vows to continue to put its
heart and soul in each performance, trying to help satisfy that musical hunger for the
multitude of Country Gentlemen fans across the nation.
Cokesbury concerts have no admittance fee, with a free-will offering to sustain the concert
series. The Church and Cultural Center is located at 13 Market Street in Onancock.
