Cape Charles, VA — Nature lovers of all ages have something to look forward to this summer, as the Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge kicks off its popular Butterfly Walks series beginning July 17th.
The guided walks take place along the refuge’s dedicated Butterfly Trail and are open to the public at no cost, with no reservation required. Participants are invited to meet inside the Visitor Center at 10 a.m., with each walk running through 11:30 a.m.
The series spans the heart of butterfly season, with dates scheduled through late September:
- July 17 · July 31 · August 14
- August 28 · September 11 · September 25
Guides will introduce participants to the wide variety of butterfly species that call the refuge home — including favorites like the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Monarch, and Common Buckeye — while sharing tips on how visitors can support butterfly populations in their own backyards.
This is a great opportunity for families, birdwatchers branching out, or anyone curious about the natural world. You don’t need any experience — just a curiosity for what’s flying around us.
