  1. Regarding the “Flucht und Vertreibung” (flight and expulsion) of the Germans from East Prussia, the flight was set in motion by Soviet massacres in several villages (Nemmersdorf and Gummbinnen) in the province. The Soviets murdered everyone in the villages, raping females as young as 6 and as old as 80.
Not only was the Wilhelm Gustloff sunk (although clearly marked with red crosses) so were the Goya and the General Von Steuben. The loss of life on each ship dwarfed the loss on the Titanic.
Of the Eastern Germans (not just East Prussians) some 15 million lost their homes and at least 2.5 million were killed or died during the flight and expulsion, which continued until 1948-49 as provinces that had been populated by Germans since the middle ages were denuded of their population. Konrad Adenauer spoke of 5 million Germans who “vanished” during the expulsions. Two good personal reports on the period are “Abandoned and Forgotten” by Evelyn Tannehill and “Weeds Like Us” by Gunter Nitsch, both available on Amazon.
The 15 million expellees have never gotten any form of restitution for their losses, only an apology from Hungary. Disgusting human rights violations that the US, UK, and France OKed.

Note: Thank you Kearn for adding much-needed details that we tend to omit.

  2. FWIW, DeLorean is making a comeback. Some new “small manufacturer” regulations allow for up to 325 units a year.

As it turns out, there are loads of part sitting in warehouses that can be used to assemble New Old Stock and any missing parts can actually be produced easier and cheaper today than the originals.

I do wonder how hard reverse angle parking would be in one of those things.
