In-person and virtual options available for Dec. 14, 2023, meeting
RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation is preparing a master plan for Machicomoco State Park and the neighboring Middle Peninsula unit in Gloucester County, Virginia. A public information meeting will be held Dec. 14 from 6 – 8 p.m. at T.C. Walker Education Center Auditorium located at 6099 T.C. Walker Rd. in Gloucester.
There will be a virtual option available and interested members of the public can register here or by visiting the master plan website at https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/recreational-planning/ma-masterplan.
The purpose of a master plan is to guide the management and development of a park by identifying natural, cultural and physical resources as well as identifying park needs and engaging with the public.
Supporting the recreational needs of the community requires the community’s input. Attendees will have the opportunity to give feedback during a portion of the meeting.
Machicomoco State Park is located along the York River and is closely situated to other historically significant sites such as the Werowocomoco archaeological site, the Captain John Smith National Historic Trail and the Yorktown Battlefield at Colonial National Historical Park. Machicomoco means “a special meeting place” and is Virginia’s 40th state park.

Maybe this post will evoke the question, “Who was T. C. Walker?”

Who was T. C. Walker?

Question, what does this have to do with the news in and around Cape Charles?
Editor’s Note: The Mirror supports and reports on the Virginia State Park system all across the Old Dominion. We have been doing this for close to 9 years now, and you’re just now noticing?

Sorry, I have not been reading your news for that long. I figured your focus was on the Eastern Shore with some Hampton Roads mixed in.
Editor’s Note: Our main focus is CC, Cheriton, and Northampton, but we do cover Hampton Roads news (it does effect us too). We also publish press releases from local entities such as ES Soil and Water Conservation District. We do publish many press releases from State orgs, our Reps like Elaine Luria and now Jen Kiggans. We also publish stuff from NOAA and NASA. But, for sure, Cape Charles/Cheriton is the main focus area. Sorry for the confusion, we should probably be more clear about this. Thanks for the note!
