A Taste of Italy in Cape Charles

May 5, 2019 by Wayne Creed 11 Comments

Oscar Wilde once said, “Non riesco a sopportare quelli che non prendono seriamente il cibo.” Meaning, “I can’t stand people who do not take food seriously.”

For those of us that have been yearning for a more sophisticated cuisine that isn’t the same ole, same ole, our prayers have been answered.

Ambrogia Caffé & Enoteca opened this week, bringing an authentic Italian flair to Mason Avenue.

321 Mason Ave
Cape Charles, Virginia 23310

If you love bread, Marina and Christina offer beautiful sandwiches on Ciabatta, Focaccia and Piandina. The Mortadella Affumicato on Focaccia is one of the best sandwiches on the Shore.

Fresh whipped ricotta (yes, it’s homemade) with capicola on piadina is a must try.

For more serious meat lovers, the braised pork with polenta cake and house-cured salmon with whipped ricotta are both brilliant interpretations of European classics.

Zuppa di patate e porri – potato leek soup with jumbo lump crab slaw. You really have to try this!

We take our food seriously, but in some ways, we take our coffee even more seriously. Whether your taste leans towards espresso, doppio or macchiato, you will not be disappointed (okay, they have real Italian coffee machine). Add biscotti, baci di dama, canestrelli or a frollini (Italian cookie) and you have truly delicious treat.

The Mirror can’t recommend Ambrogia enough. You have to go!

We were invited to a “taste testing “ and were impressed with the quality and presentation of the meal. More importantly, nice to meet young people who have the passion to create something unique. Will be another bright spot on Mason Avenue.

I wish you NOTHING but the best. Good things come to those who are intelligent, strong willed, kind and generous. I want to make a special NY to Cape Charles trip just to eat your food…and I will NOT ask for a tango dance. I am so happy FOR you and proud OF you. Batt Johnson-NY
