Preserve Communities to Deliver Premier Lifestyle in Cape Charles with Acquisition of Bay Creek…Bay Creek Community to Undergo Re-Imagination Promoting a Holistic, Active Lifestyle with Unrivaled Beachfront Access on Virginia’s Cape
CAPE CHARLES, V.A.– (November 4, 2019) – Preserve Communities welcomes Bay Creek into its portfolio of purposefully crafted lifestyle communities. With a vision of expanding Bay Creek’s outstanding reputation, the re-imagination promises a multi-generational community perfect for a diverse set of home buyers, from those passionate about golf and outdoor activities year-round to those looking to trade city life for the perfect beach town in Cape Charles. Along with the improvement and introduction of world-class amenities and lifestyle programming, will be a keen focus on preserving the beauty of the Eastern Shore and deepening the connection to Cape Charles and the Bay.
“Our guiding principle at Preserve Communities is thoughtful development. We strive to create purposeful and highly desired communities by carefully considering the long-term influence of land use, amenities, architecture, and operations where owners, members, and guests live well and thrive,” says Matt Hagler, Vice President Preserve Clubs & Resorts. “Bay Creek’s location on Virginia’s Cape and to the town of Cape Charles is quite unique. We’re going to re-imagine the community by interacting and activating the beautiful nature, stunning and seemingly endless waterfront, and the charm of the city emerging here.”
The re-imagination will begin immediately and will include the improvement and introduction of state-of-the-art amenities, active lifestyle programming, and of course, the world-class golf experience.
• State-of-the-Art Amenities: The promise of a holistic lifestyle full of adventure and relaxation will be delivered through a combination of new and revitalized amenities. Construction is set to begin immediately on a new beach club, an incredible design that fulfills the original intended setting of this signature amenity. Built along the dunes overlooking our beaches and the Bay, the beach club is planned for dining and entertainment options, while just below, the natural coves from the Chesapeake will shape beaches designated for water activities, kid-friendly programming, quiet relaxation, and more. The Coach House will undergo extensive renovations to enhance dining, event, and entertainment opportunities. The current beach cub facility will be transformed into a full Health and Wellness Center, offering diverse fitness programming and kids’ activities.
• Active Lifestyle Programming: Bay Creek’s location on the Eastern Shore offers the unique opportunity to deliver an unmatched active lifestyle. Plantation Creek, which winds itself through the community, will become an outdoor hub connecting homeowners to the beautiful nature of Cape Charles. It will include walking trails and local gardens to water activity programming, such as kayaking and canoeing.
• World Class Golf: The Bay Creek Golf Club currently includes two distinguished courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, respectively. Changes to the golf course will begin in November with the closure of the back nine holes on the Nicklaus course. Plans are for Bay Creek to re-open in the spring, as a 27-hole golf club comprised of the original Palmer 18-holes and the front 9-holes of the Nicklaus course. The significant change to the golf courses will deliver the best golf experience for the membership, offering positives such as, improved overall course conditioning, sensible capacity utilization, and more efficient use of resources.
Preserve Communities’ new vision of Bay Creek is aided by the support of IMI Worldwide Properties. The two will team-up to establish the community as the premium destination for living and vacationing on Virginia’s Cape.
“Virginia’s Cape is one of the most beautiful and bountiful beachfront regions in the country. With its uniquely East Coast appeal, the area bridges the best of many worlds – nature and wildlife, and the quiet tranquility of private beaches on the Chesapeake Bay, all within an hour’s drive to Virginia’s Tidewater Peninsula and 4.5 hours to Washington DC,” says Dan Collins, Founding Partner and Chief Marketing Officer of IMI Worldwide Properties. “We’re going to take coastal living to a whole new level, unparalleled and unseen before in the region.”

“The Preserve at Bay Creek” has a nice ring to it.
Lets hope with their deep pockets and success with other ” Preserves” they will bring new life to old Bay Creek.
Dropping to 27 holes is a great first move. Hope they continue to keep it open for public use at least in a limited manner
I wondered if they purchased the marina too?

Hope they will pay their taxes

Hmmmmmm………….Business is all about cash flow. Period. You have to keep the cash flowing in to cover all year round expenses. Obviously the previous owner had the wrong plan and/or hired the wrong people to implement it.
Taxes ? Well the tax man has the 1st lien. Since the property just changed hands, any back taxes just got paid.
The press release sure comes across as being well thought out and thoroughly put together. Lots of slick phrases intended to induce a bucolic mindset. Okay. Great. Just Do IT in such a way that brings new folks in at this time and get that cash flowing. Bigger ideas and grander designs necessitate bigger money. This will create bigger invoices to visitors/buyers. Will the new owner(s) attract those bigger wallets ? I hope they do. They bought it and I am sure have no plans to fail.
This place succeeding should do no one harm. Golf courses attract money when the overall pkg. is a good one. Many municipalities in this country have built some for the tremendous cash cow they become. Attracting golfers, who always have above avg. incomes, is rarely a bad idea.
If employees that are retained, or are a new hire, work as directed, and all hands from top mgmt. through all employees are dedicated to the market plan, they will have a new life. Good luck to all !

Very sad news. I live in Northern Virginia and me and the guys try to come down twice a year for the unique golfing experience on two very fine course. Enjoyable dinners in and around town afterwards. Shutting down 25% of the facility will likely keep us more in the Williamsburg area. Sad to see this fine facility decline. Thanks for years of great golf.

For now I simply say welcome aboard and the best for you and Cape Charles . It’s a unique opportunity to do good .
As time goes on issues like shore erosion abatement/control will wiggle back up on the table .

This sounds like a very amazing and ambitious plan. Hoping for a great outcome…. but please don’t forget about the surrounding community of golf enthusiasts who want to just play golf on this side of the Bay. Please open the golf experience to the public even if with limited hours. The golf attraction has been one of the main magnets for the Cape Charles vacationers! Let’s make all the wonderful changes a win-win for everyone!

Well there goes the neighborhood. AKA all the reasons I declined to move to Annapolis, St. Michael’s etc. are now on their way.

Hope the ghosts of Hollywood farms come to haunt “The Preserve at Bay Creek” . Please lock the gate .

Myself and family have been coming to Bay Creek since it OPENED. We are here now after missing last year and we are disappointed beyond words. What a hoo doo ! Preserve MY BUTT ! The place looks like Ocean City. Building lots everyone I mean EVERYWHERE ! How’s that for preserving.
Bigger problem among many is the support structure in place to handle the growth. Does anyone understand the unique quality of Cape Charles and it’s culture? Who is going to service this growth ?Do they understand Cape Charles ? I don’t think so. The Tidewater area is not. There’s a 20 mile tunnel bridge between the two. The infrastructure is not here. How about retired people and medical and emergency care ? Duh ?
The draw to the area was the two signature golf courses. They sold out the back Nicklaus course for quick environmental money I assume for cash flow. Not good. 27 holes is not a resort make. Good luck with keeping the golf as a destination for avid players.
Opening up the front Nicklaus course to house it development is just poor planning. It will look terrible to a once beautiful bay front property. Now there will be tight housing everywhere.
Good luck folks. We will it be back
