Buchanan Subaru “Shares the Love” with Riverside Shore Hospice

May 29, 2016 by Wayne Creed Leave a Comment

Nassawadox, VA – On Friday, April 29th, Buchanan Subaru of Pocomoke, MD presented a $7,000 check to Riverside Shore Hospice. The dealership raised the funds by participating in a national Subaru “Share the Love” campaign held during the 2015 Thanksgiving to New Year’s holiday season. The promotion directed $250 from each new car sold during that period to a local charity. Buchanan Subaru again this year designated Hospice as their “Hometown Charity” and matched a portion of those funds to bring the total donation to $7000.

The funds benefit Camp Fragile Hearts, a community outreach effort of Riverside Shore Hospice. The free camp helps 40 local children understand and process grief and loss in their lives. With the help of trained staff and volunteers, campers experience a variety of activities including age-specific group counseling, arts and crafts, a scavenger hunt, hearty meals as well as a climbing tower and a petting zoo. The one-day camp will be held on October 1st at Camp Silver Beach in Jamesville, VA.

Eddie Mears, General Manager of Buchanan Subaru, commented, “We remain committed to giving back to our community and are delighted to be able to support Riverside Shore Hospice again this year. The organization provides vital medical and emotional support to patients, families and caregivers during and after a difficult chapter in life, and Hospice continues that level of care and support through Camp Fragile Hearts.”

Melanie Mason, Bereavement Coordinator for Riverside Shore Hospice, explained, “Given the increasing pace of change in our healthcare environment, Hospice is more important today than ever, and our community, patients and families need our help and support. Camp Fragile Hearts is another way that Riverside fulfills our mission to care for our patients and their families as we would care for the loved ones in our own lives, and Buchanan’s continued generous support of Camp will truly make a lasting difference in the lives of local children.” For more information on Camp Fragile Hearts, contact Melanie Mason at 757-789-5000 or email her at melanie.mason@rivhs.com.
