WASHINGTON, DC –Tonight, the House Armed Services Committee marked up the William M. (Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2021, during which Congresswoman Luria advocated for Hampton Roads and a bipartisan approach to the most important national security legislation of the year.
“This year’s National Defense Authorization Act will keep Americans safe and position Coastal Virginia to continue our critical role in securing America,” said Congresswoman Luria. “Matters of national security should transcend politics, and I am proud that my colleagues on both sides of the aisle found common ground. This bill prioritizes sensible national security policy, provides certainty for the defense industrial base, and—most importantly—supports our servicemembers and military families.”
The Chairman’s mark included several of Congresswoman Luria’s policy priorities, including the text of the Military Pilots Cancer Incidence Study Act (H.R. 5858). This study will help the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs fully understand the cause and prevalence of cancer diagnoses and deaths among military pilots. The data will be broken down by age, gender, type of aircraft flown, and military service to analyze the correlation between cockpit exposure and cancer rates.
