(ACCOMAC, Va.)— The Eastern Shore Health District held the first of three Zika Health Information Seminars for the public on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at the Barrier Island Center in Machipongo, Virginia. Residents who were unable to attend the first seminar are encouraged to come out 10:00am on Saturday, June 4 to the 2nd Zika Health Information Seminar being held at the Chincoteague Center on Chincoteague. No reservations are needed for this venue.
The Health District has also recently received a shipment of Zika preparedness kits from the Virginia Department of Health that will be provided to pregnant women in the clinic setting for the purpose of Zika education and prevention. Riverside Shore OB/GYN is partnering with the Eastern Shore Health District, in order to reach as many pregnant women in Accomack and Northampton County as possible.
All permanent residents, seasonal workers, tourists and visitors to the Eastern Shore of Virginia are encouraged to protect themselves and their families from mosquito bites. While there is no local mosquito transmission of the Zika Virus yet on Delmarva, or in the United States, mosquitos have transmitted other serious diseases that can affect families, pets, and/or livestock.
