(KTLA) Orange County, CA – Hours after Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered all Orange County beaches to close, the Huntington Beach City Council voted Thursday evening to challenge the directive.
After meeting in closed session to discuss the measure, the council voted 5-2 to “take any legal action to challenge the governor’s executive order,” City Attorney Michael Gates said. The two dissenting votes came from council members Barbara Delgleize and Kim Carr.
Huntington Beach Mayor Lyn Semeta said the city hopes to get an injunction soon, but it will close its beaches in the meantime.
“We’re very concerned about if we happen to be the only Orange County beach open at that point,” she said. “That would be very difficult on our marine safety officers.”
Huntington Beach leaders aren’t the only ones in Orange County at odds with the governor’s decision.
The Newport Beach City Council — which voted Tuesday to keep its beaches open — plans to meet this weekend to discuss a similar challenge to the directive.

Why could they open our beaches with an ID check, just life they for years in Newport spring break. During this time, only HB residents allowed. Especially open the parking lot, for all of us who have purchased parking passes and are unable to us them.

Personally I’ve been working in the field from the beginning. I run a crude and gas oil storage and pipeline facility. People are being responsible everywhere I go. Nothing should be shut down and it should be the responsibility of every individual to maintain distance and proper hygiene! If at the beach or at a store or anywhere. If the beaches get packed then leave it to the individual to make their choice on visiting or not. If at anytime the city whiteness what they feel over crowding then like a life Gaurd at a pool close the beach down. However, for officials to talk and treat the public like children is going to create more civil unrest, anger and frustration. I’m 64 years of age and I feel if I get 19 and even die from complications.. at least I went with human interaction.
