Town moves forward with design of new Municipal Building

July 10, 2022 by 8 Comments

The Cape Charles Town Council will hold a Special Meeting on Tuesday, July 12th to discuss and vote on a change order related to the design and engineering phase for the new Municipal Facilities. The firm of HBA has re-worked the proposal, and the new lump sum price for the work is increased by $509,950.10.

The Town is going to build a new structure that will house administrative, police, library, and council chamber functions. The library will remain where it is, however, the third floor will be sold. The current municipal building at 14 Plum and the Civic Center on Tazewell will also be sold.

A public restroom will be constructed somewhere in the ‘business district’.

Below is the basic location for the municipal building.

A Topographic Survey of the area is due.

Below is the proposed general location of public restroom facilities.

Funny they don’t tell you in this article where exactly they wanna put the municipal building. It’s not even directly in town. As you pass the water treatment plant,๐Ÿคฎ, and the old colored school like you’re headed to baycreek it’s on your right at the curve. Connects to Bayshore lane on the other side. Possible reasons the costs went up soooo high is because soooo much land needs to be cleared and leveled among other things. Especially baycreekers needing to keep their pockets filled.

Cost of the land went so high is because whos selling it. That was our land to begin with why do we have to buy it again? Same as the land for the bike trail.
What you need is a good lawyer and not be afraid to push back occasionally.

How about a new fire house with hook and ladder truck. Then convert the old fire house in keeping with historic Cape Charles into the MunicipaBuilding.
Or is history only important when is suits certain people?

Well Sir, don’t know if you’re aware of it. But they do have a firehouse for Cape Charles. It’s where the rescue squads are located, in Cheriton.
They move it there so it wouldn’t disturb the tourist. I know, because at 845 every morning they went by my house with sirens blaring. Regardless if there was any traffic on the road!!
      EVERY DAMN MORNING!
