After President Trump’s speech at Mount Rushmore, media outlets such as the NY Times and Washingon Post accused the President of pushing racism, that the speech was racially divisive. The Mirror obtained a copy of the speech, and this is what we found in the text:
“Our Founders launched not only a revolution in government, but a revolution in the pursuit of justice, equality, liberty, and prosperity.”
“No nation has done more to advance the human condition than the United States of America. And no people have done more to promote human progress than the citizens of our great nation.”
“They enshrined a divine truth that changed the world forever when they said: ‘…all men are created equal.’”
“These immortal words set in motion the unstoppable march of freedom.”
“Our Founders boldly declared that we are all endowed with the same divine rights — given [to] us by our Creator in Heaven.”
“Seventeen seventy-six represented the culmination of thousands of years of western civilization and the triumph not only of spirit, but of wisdom, philosophy, and reason.”
“We will state the truth in full, without apology: We declare that the United States of America is the most just and exceptional nation ever to exist on Earth.”
“We believe in equal opportunity, equal justice, and equal treatment for citizens of every race, background, religion, and creed. Every child, of every color — born and unborn — is made in the holy image of God.”
“We embrace tolerance, not prejudice.”
“they would erase the memory that inspired those soldiers to go to their deaths, singing these words of the Battle Hymn of the Republic: ‘As He died to make men Holy, let us die to make men free, while God is marching on.’”
“They would tear down the principles that propelled the abolition of slavery in America and, ultimately, around the world, ending an evil institution that had plagued humanity for thousands and thousands of years.”
“Our opponents would tear apart the very documents that Martin Luther King used to express his dream, and the ideas that were the foundation of the righteous movement for Civil Rights.”
“They would tear down the beliefs, culture, and identity that have made America the most vibrant and tolerant society in the history of the Earth.”
“It is time to plant our flag and protect the greatest of this nation, for citizens of every race, in every city, and every part of this glorious land.”
“We will proclaim the ideals of the Declaration of Independence, and we will never surrender the spirit and the courage and the cause of July 4th, 1776.”
“We must demand that our children are taught once again to see America as did Reverend Martin Luther King, when he said that the Founders had signed “a promissory note” to every future generation.”
“Dr. King saw that the mission of justice required us to fully embrace our founding ideals. Those ideals are so important to us — the founding ideals.”
We are the country of Andrew Jackson, Ulysses S. Grant, and Frederick Douglass. We are the land of Wild Bill Hickock and Buffalo Bill Cody. We are the nation that gave rise to the Wright Brothers, the Tuskegee Airmen, Harriet Tubman, Clara Barton, Jesse Owens, George Patton — General George Patton — the great Louie Armstrong, Alan Shepard, Elvis Presley, and Mohammad Ali.”
Analysis: You can say the speech was insincere, or his tweets matter more, or he doesn’t have the credibility to make this sort of speech, but you can’t say it was racially divisive. Next.
Paul Plante says
You are asking the mindless media morons who hurl these charges of “racism” (what an empty and stupid term that has become) like brickbats to act as though they were rational and intelligent, when they are far from it.
Joe Kelly says
Words matter not commenting on media. Words without actions are just words. Can a leopard change his spot: no, whoever pen the speech for him is to be commended, there are no words I can say that will change your mind that Trump isn’t raciest. Some times it’s better to step aside and let someone else try. Once anyone has lost confidence in you trust issues will always remain.
Larry Korte says
I thought it was a very good speech
Joyce says
It was a wonderful speech.
Ginger Nichols says
I felt the speech was wonderful. Not racist at all but pointing out how far we’ve come as a nation. Bring God back into our lives as he was removed by the last president.

This president believes that “HE”is god.
Slide Easy says
Please explain your blasphemy.
There is only one God, his name is Jehovah. You may do well to read about him. He is The Alpha and The Omega, The First and The Last. He is waiting for you to confess your sins and beg for his forgiveness.
Trump can not be God.

What is your explanation for the Blasphemy???
D. Lisenbee says
Only the blind and demonic possessed would think that. get some help.
Paul Plante says
Speaking about the blind and demonic-possessed, how about the story all over the news a couple of months ago about “Corn Pop” Biden, an alleged Catholic who says he gets a lot out of prayer being the first president in our history to omit the word “God” from the national prayer dedication, as we can see in a story about that omission in the New York Post entitled “Biden omits the word ‘God’ from national prayer declaration” by Samuel Chamberlain on May 7, 2021, as follows:
President Biden left the word “God” out of his proclamation of the annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday.
The president lauded America’s “remarkable religious vitality and diversity,” noted “the power of prayer to provide hope and uplift us for the work ahead,” and even quoted the late congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis.
But the proclamation made no mention of or reference to God or any other deity.
By contrast, President Donald Trump’s National Day of Prayer proclamation last year mentioned God eight times, with three more mentions taken from quotations.
President Barack Obama found space to mention God twice in his last National Day of Prayer declaration in 2016, while President George W. Bush mentioned God four times in his 2008 proclamation.
The omission was not lost on some Republicans and religious leaders.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) mockingly tweeted: “Our Government, which art in Washington, hallowed be thy taxes…” in response to a story about the proclamation, while evangelist Franklin Graham told Fox News Thursday night: “Of course we need to call on God, and not just some generic ‘gods’ or some ‘power’ in the air, but on God himself …”
“There is no one else to pray to except to God.”
The president is required by law to issue an annual proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a National Day of Prayer “on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals.”
end quotes
Did goofy old Joe omit the name of “God” because he couldn’t remember it?
Did the goofball omit the name of “God” because Trump used the name of “God” in his speech, and Joe is reversing everything Trump did?
Or did Joe omit the name of “God” because he believes in his own mind that “God” is him?

You have had a whole year to answer, Junie Bug….???????
Michelle says
I’ve read through President Trump’s speech several times, to try and figure out what people are seeing in it that made it so “wrong, so racist” I found NOTHING. It was a great speech in which he was able to try to pull people together as a whole. Undivided, accepting & proud of what our forefathers did for the past, present, & future generations of Americans. I found this to be one of President Trumps, great speeches. President Trump loves America. We, as Americans need to love America and ALL all of those that made our country great. This was a great and sincere speech to the American people. We need to join together, not tear each other apart but to build on what every man and woman of every race & color can bring together in unity
Paul Plante says
Very well said!
David Moore says
Michelle of course it was a great speech, full of unification. Only if your were trying to tear this country down would you see it any other way. Get out and vote and make sure you friends do so as well.

You left out most of his lying ass speech!!
Note: Feel free to fill in the rest.

Instead of making that statement and just leaving it there, it really would have been a lot more helpful to your fellow Americans if you had put in the part you feel is “lying ass” so we can see what you mean by that.

The transcript of his speech is online for everyone’s viewing. Again as stated in this article, there was no racism. Here’s a fun experiment for you. Go to google and type in “Is ____ racist” amusingly even bacon will produce an answer. Wake up!
Gary B says
And you left out any evidence of “lying” to back up what you claim. What exactly did he lie about? Show me where he lied. I watched the speech and reread the transcript and saw no lies. In fact, it was one of his better speeches — for a change, he didn’t talk about himself, which I will readily agree is something that bothers me about many of his appearances. But this one talked about our country. Did you even see it or read it? Or are you just parroting the talking points you heard from the lying media gasbags who had already decided they hated the speech before he even spoke a word? Show me where he lied. Put up or shut up, jackass.

Lying media gasbags!

Because you do that, you also want to reverse what the president says, I didn’t see any speech of racism or hate.
Paul Plante says
It doesn’t have to be “racist” for the media to label it as “racist,” because the word “racist” no longer has any concrete rational meaning, if it ever did, and instead is simply an accusation for political purposes that they can hurl like a brick at anyone they want to accuse of being “racist.”
tokenny says
Here ya go,
HE PRESIDENT: …Our Founders launched not only a revolution in government, but a revolution in the pursuit of justice, equality, liberty, and prosperity. No nation has done more to advance the human condition than the United States of America. And no people have done more to promote human progress than the citizens of our great nation. (Applause.)
It was all made possible by the courage of 56 patriots who gathered in Philadelphia 244 years ago and signed the Declaration of Independence. (Applause.) They enshrined a divine truth that changed the world forever when they said: “all men are created equal.”
These immortal words set in motion the unstoppable march of freedom. Our Founders boldly declared that we are all endowed with the same divine rights — given [to] us by our Creator in Heaven. And that which God has given us, we will allow no one, ever, to take away ever. (Applause.)
Seventeen seventy-six represented the culmination of thousands of years of western civilization and the triumph not only of spirit, but of wisdom, philosophy, and reason.
And yet, as we meet here tonight, there is a growing danger that threatens every blessing our ancestors fought so hard for, struggled, they bled to secure.
Our nation is witnessing a merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values, and indoctrinate our children.
THE PRESIDENT: Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our Founders, deface our most sacred memorials, and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities. Many of these people have no idea why they are doing this, but some know exactly what they are doing. They think the American people are weak and soft and submissive. But no, the American people are strong and proud, and they will not allow our country, and all of its values, history, and culture, to be taken from them. (Applause.)
AUDIENCE: USA! USA! USA!
THE PRESIDENT: One of their political weapons is “Cancel Culture” –driving people from their jobs, shaming dissenters, and demanding total submission from anyone who disagrees. This is the very definition of totalitarianism, and it is completely alien to our culture and our values, and it has absolutely no place in the United States of America. (Applause.) This attack on our liberty, our magnificent liberty, must be stopped, and it will be stopped very quickly. We will expose this dangerous movement, protect our nation’s children, end this radical assault, and preserve our beloved American way of life. (Applause.)
In our schools, our newsrooms, even our corporate boardrooms, there is a new far-left fascism that demands absolute allegiance. If you do not speak its language, perform its rituals, recite its mantras, and follow its commandments, then you will be censored, banished, blacklisted, persecuted, and punished. It’s not going to happen to us. (Applause.)
Make no mistake: this left-wing cultural revolution is designed to overthrow the American Revolution. In so doing, they would destroy the very civilization that rescued billions from poverty, disease, violence, and hunger, and that lifted humanity to new heights of achievement, discovery, and progress.
To make this possible, they are determined to tear down every statue, symbol, and memory of our national heritage. The violent mayhem we have seen in the streets of cities that are run by liberal Democrats, in every case, is the predictable result of years of extreme indoctrination and bias in education, journalism, and other cultural institutions.
Against every law of society and nature, our children are taught in school to hate their own country, and to believe that the men and women who built it were not heroes, but that were villains. The radical view of American history is a web of lies — all perspective is removed, every virtue is obscured, every motive is twisted, every fact is distorted, and every flaw is magnified until the history is purged and the record is disfigured beyond all recognition.
This movement is openly attacking the legacies of every person on Mount Rushmore. They defile the memory of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Roosevelt. Today, we will set history and history’s record straight. (Applause.)
Before these figures were immortalized in stone, they were American giants in full flesh and blood, gallant men whose intrepid deeds unleashed the greatest leap of human advancement the world has ever known. Tonight, I will tell you and, most importantly, the youth of our nation, the true stories of these great, great men.
From head to toe, George Washington represented the strength, grace, and dignity of the American people. From a small volunteer force of citizen farmers, he created the Continental Army out of nothing and rallied them to stand against the most powerful military on Earth.
Through eight long years, through the brutal winter at Valley Forge, through setback after setback on the field of battle, he led those patriots to ultimate triumph. When the Army had dwindled to a few thousand men at Christmas of 1776, when defeat seemed absolutely certain, he took what remained of his forces on a daring nighttime crossing of the Delaware River.
They marched through nine miles of frigid darkness, many without boots on their feet, leaving a trail of blood in the snow. In the morning, they seized victory at Trenton. After forcing the surrender of the most powerful empire on the planet at Yorktown, General Washington did not claim power, but simply returned to Mount Vernon as a private citizen.
When called upon again, he presided over the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, and was unanimously elected our first President. (Applause.) When he stepped down after two terms, his former adversary King George called him “the greatest man of the age.” He remains first in our hearts to this day. For as long as Americans love this land, we will honor and cherish the father of our country, George Washington. (Applause.) He will never be removed, abolished, and most of all, he will never be forgotten. (Applause.)
Thomas Jefferson — the great Thomas Jefferson — was 33 years old when he traveled north to Pennsylvania and brilliantly authored one of the greatest treasures of human history, the Declaration of Independence. He also drafted Virginia’s constitution, and conceived and wrote the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, a model for our cherished First Amendment.
After serving as the first Secretary of State, and then Vice President, he was elected to the Presidency. He ordered American warriors to crush the Barbary pirates, he doubled the size of our nation with the Louisiana Purchase, and he sent the famous explorers Lewis and Clark into the west on a daring expedition to the Pacific Ocean.
He was an architect, an inventor, a diplomat, a scholar, the founder of one of the world’s great universities, and an ardent defender of liberty. Americans will forever admire the author of American freedom, Thomas Jefferson. (Applause.) And he, too, will never, ever be abandoned by us. (Applause.)
Abraham Lincoln, the savior of our union, was a self-taught country lawyer who grew up in a log cabin on the American frontier.
The first Republican President, he rose to high office from obscurity, based on a force and clarity of his anti-slavery convictions. Very, very strong convictions.
He signed the law that built the Transcontinental Railroad; he signed the Homestead Act, given to some incredible scholars — as simply defined, ordinary citizens free land to settle anywhere in the American West; and he led the country through the darkest hours of American history, giving every ounce of strength that he had to ensure that government of the people, by the people, and for the people did not perish from this Earth. (Applause.)
He served as Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces during our bloodiest war, the struggle that saved our union and extinguished the evil of slavery. Over 600,000 died in that war; more than 20,000 were killed or wounded in a single day at Antietam. At Gettysburg, 157 years ago, the Union bravely withstood an assault of nearly 15,000 men and threw back Pickett’s charge.
Lincoln won the Civil War; he issued the Emancipation Proclamation; he led the passage of the 13th Amendment, abolishing slavery for all time — (applause) — and ultimately, his determination to preserve our nation and our union cost him his life. For as long as we live, Americans will uphold and revere the immortal memory of President Abraham Lincoln. (Applause.)
Theodore Roosevelt exemplified the unbridled confidence of our national culture and identity. He saw the towering grandeur of America’s mission in the world and he pursued it with overwhelming energy and zeal.
As a Lieutenant Colonel during the Spanish-American War, he led the famous Rough Riders to defeat the enemy at San Juan Hill. He cleaned up corruption as Police Commissioner of New York City, then served as the Governor of New York, Vice President, and at 42 years old, became the youngest-ever President of the United States. (Applause.)
He sent our great new naval fleet around the globe to announce America’s arrival as a world power. He gave us many of our national parks, including the Grand Canyon; he oversaw the construction of the awe-inspiring Panama Canal; and he is the only person ever awarded both the Nobel Peace Prize and the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was — (applause) — American freedom personified in full. The American people will never relinquish the bold, beautiful, and untamed spirit of Theodore Roosevelt. (Applause.)
No movement that seeks to dismantle these treasured American legacies can possibly have a love of America at its heart. Can’t have it. No person who remains quiet at the destruction of this resplendent heritage can possibly lead us to a better future.
The radical ideology attacking our country advances under the banner of social justice. But in truth, it would demolish both justice and society. It would transform justice into an instrument of division and vengeance, and it would turn our free and inclusive society into a place of repression, domination, and exclusion.
They want to silence us, but we will not be silenced. (Applause.).Those who seek to erase our heritage want Americans to forget our pride and our great dignity, so that we can no longer understand ourselves or America’s destiny. In toppling the heroes of 1776, they seek to dissolve the bonds of love and loyalty that we feel for our country, and that we feel for each other. Their goal is not a better America, their goal is the end of America.
AUDIENCE: Booo …..We will never let them rip America’s heroes from our monuments, or from our hearts. By tearing down Washington and Jefferson, these radicals would tear down the very heritage for which men gave their lives to win the Civil War; they would erase the memory that inspired those soldiers to go to their deaths, singing these words of the Battle Hymn of the Republic: “As He died to make men Holy, let us die to make men free, while God is marching on.” (Applause.)
They would tear down the principles that propelled the abolition of slavery in America and, ultimately, around the world, ending an evil institution that had plagued humanity for thousands and thousands of years. Our opponents would tear apart the very documents that Martin Luther King used to express his dream, and the ideas that were the foundation of the righteous movement for Civil Rights. They would tear down the beliefs, culture, and identity that have made America the most vibrant and tolerant society in the history of the Earth.
My fellow Americans, it is time to speak up loudly and strongly and powerfully and defend the integrity of our country. (Applause.)
AUDIENCE: USA! USA! USA!
THE PRESIDENT: It is time for our politicians to summon the bravery and determination of our American ancestors. It is time. (Applause.) It is time to plant our flag and protect the greatest of this nation, for citizens of every race, in every city, and every part of this glorious land. For the sake of our honor, for the sake of our children, for the sake of our union, we must protect and preserve our history, our heritage, and our great heroes. (Applause.)
Here tonight, before the eyes of our forefathers, Americans declare again, as we did 244 years ago: that we will not be tyrannized, we will not be demeaned, and we will not be intimidated by bad, evil people. It will not happen. (Applause.)
AUDIENCE: USA! USA! USA!
THE PRESIDENT: We will proclaim the ideals of the Declaration of Independence, and we will never surrender the spirit and the courage and the cause of July 4th, 1776.
Upon this ground, we will stand firm and unwavering. In the face of lies meant to divide us, demoralize us, and diminish us, we will show that the story of America unites us, inspires us, includes us all, and makes everyone free.
We must demand that our children are taught once again to see America as did Reverend Martin Luther King, when he said that the Founders had signed “a promissory note” to every future generation. Dr. King saw that the mission of justice required us to fully embrace our founding ideals. Those ideals are so important to us — the founding ideals. He called on his fellow citizens not to rip down their heritage, but to live up to their heritage. (Applause.)
Above all, our children, from every community, must be taught that to be American is to inherit the spirit of the most adventurous and confident people ever to walk the face of the Earth.
Americans are the people who pursued our Manifest Destiny across the ocean, into the uncharted wilderness, over the tallest mountains, and then into the skies and even into the stars.
We are the country of Andrew Jackson, Ulysses S. Grant, and Frederick Douglass. We are the land of Wild Bill Hickock and Buffalo Bill Cody. (Applause.) We are the nation that gave rise to the Wright Brothers, the Tuskegee Airmen — (applause) — Harriet Tubman, Clara Barton, Jesse Owens, George Patton — General George Patton — the great Louie Armstrong, Alan Shepard, Elvis Presley, and Mohammad Ali. (Applause.) And only America could have produced them all. (Applause.) No other place.
We are the culture that put up the Hoover Dam, laid down the highways, and sculpted the skyline of Manhattan. We are the people who dreamed a spectacular dream — it was called: Las Vegas, in the Nevada desert; who built up Miami from the Florida marsh; and who carved our heroes into the face of Mount Rushmore. (Applause.)
Americans harnessed electricity, split the atom, and gave the world the telephone and the Internet. We settled the Wild West, won two World Wars, landed American astronauts on the Moon — and one day very soon, we will plant our flag on Mars.
We gave the world the poetry of Walt Whitman, the stories of Mark Twain, the songs of Irving Berlin, the voice of Ella Fitzgerald, the style of Frank Sinatra — (applause) — the comedy of Bob Hope, the power of the Saturn V rocket, the toughness of the Ford F-150 — (applause) — and the awesome might of the American aircraft carriers.
…From this night and from this magnificent place, let us go forward united in our purpose and re-dedicated in our resolve. We will raise the next generation of American patriots. We will write the next thrilling chapter of the American adventure. And we will teach our children to know that they live in a land of legends, that nothing can stop them, and that no one can hold them down. (Applause.) They will know that in America, you can do anything, you can be anything, and together, we can achieve anything. (Applause.)
Uplifted by the titans of Mount Rushmore, we will find unity that no one expected; we will make strides that no one thought possible. This country will be everything that our citizens have hoped for, for so many years, and that our enemies fear — because we will never forget that American freedom exists for American greatness. And that’s what we have: American greatness. (Applause.)
Centuries from now, our legacy will be the cities we built, the champions we forged, the good we did, and the monuments we created to inspire us all…

Yes, Raymond, we know, more than three or four multi-syballic words in a row make you conk out, for some as-of-yet unexplained or perhaps undiagnosed reason during this time of COVID, where essential services are impaired, with the result of you diving face first into your keyboard, so that the words “Oh, and HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!” have you totally baffled and confused as a result of there being absolutely too many letters in there to be able to resolve into words you could understand, which make you puce with rage, but such it is, and you will notice that I was addressing tokenny specifically with those words in an effort not to anger you.
Sorry!

Which goes to show how much smarter the fish is to the fisherman who just lost several hundred feet of line, his lure, a lot of skin off the pad of his thumb and the fish itself in a literal blink of an eye.

As to Martin, I enjoy his works immensely, having derived hours of satisfaction from reading them, so I for one am not surprised he would feel that way.
Whether he would venture so far as to apply it to a fish I can’t say, Raymond, so you’re on your own with that conundrum and good luck to you in solving it.

How very wrong you are Alyce . Please tell us how President Trump has disgraced the country. It is well known that President Trump does not like reading a prepared speech. He has to, but often uses it only for an outline. He’s quite different from our previous President, who liked to be known as a great orator. That’s not Trump’s desire. He wishes to be a leader, and he is. Speeches are important, but actions speak much louder than words. He has disgraced no one and no thing about this country. You are letting yourself be swayed by the lying press. They take his words out of context and twist them. Jesse Jackson has given him an award for his work. Sen. Scott and Ben Carson laud Trump’s “Opportunity Zones”. You’re not paying attention Alyce.

It is well known Diana that President Trump had Mr. Epstein banned from from Mar A Lago when Epstein’s activities became known. What is there to question ? There is a big difference between being part of the wealthy social network, and friends. Trump is not known to have flown to the island with Epstein. Bill Clinton, on the other hand, left his security detail behind and flew with Epstein several times. What’s up with that ?
Trump is also well known to have walked away from the idea of a Trump Tower in Russia. Tax issues he’s dodging ? You mean the fact that he simply does not want to have the whole world reading his tax returns ? That’s not an issue. It’s a difference of opinion over privacy matters. I’d be more interested in Obama’s tax returns while President. He entered the office as a 1st term senator and community organizer. Certainly not wealthy. Now he’s paying cash for million dollar homes in D.C. and swank New England islands. How’d that happen? $400K a year as prez totals $3.2 mil for 8 years. If he paid any taxes on that money, he wouldn’t even have that much. h wait, did he give away his salary as Trump does ? Hmmmm…….yeah I have questions about a Presidents tax returns……

Paul Plante says
“Racist” is such a STUPID term, is it not, Diana, given that there is but one race on earth which is the human race?
People who sling the term “racist” around are really igno0rant morons, wouldn’t you agree?
People who use the term “racist” apparently are proud of putting their ignorance on public display, wouldn’t you say?
Diana Johnson says
Obviously your Anglo Saxon.
What in the devil would you know about racism
Paul Plante says
Never in this lifetime, Diana, have I been “Anglo-Saxon,” and for the record, the Anglo-Saxons were a cultural group who inhabited England from the 5th century.
They comprised people from Germanic tribes who migrated to the island from continental Europe, their descendants, and indigenous British groups who adopted many aspects of Anglo-Saxon culture and language.
The Anglo-Saxons established the Kingdom of England, and the modern English language, which you yourself are using above here to accuse me of being “Anglo-Saxon,” owes almost half of its words – including the most common words of everyday speech – to their language.
Historically, the Anglo-Saxon period denotes the period in Britain between about 450 and 1066, after their initial settlement and up until the Norman conquest.
The early Anglo-Saxon period includes the creation of an English nation, with many of the aspects that survive today, including regional government of shires and hundreds.
If you bother to look at my name, it is clear that I am neither English nor am I “Anglo-Saxon.”
Getting back to history, during this period, Christianity was established and there was a flowering of literature and language.
Charters and law were also established.
The term Anglo-Saxon is popularly used for the language that was spoken and written by the Anglo-Saxons in England and eastern Scotland between at least the mid-5th century and the mid-12th century.
In scholarly use, it is more commonly called Old English.
The history of the Anglo-Saxons is the history of a cultural identity.
It developed from divergent groups in association with the people’s adoption of Christianity and was integral to the establishment of various kingdoms.
Threatened by extended Danish invasions and military occupation of eastern England, this identity was re-established; it dominated until after the Norman Conquest.
The visible Anglo-Saxon culture can be seen in the material culture of buildings, dress styles, illuminated texts and grave goods.
Behind the symbolic nature of these cultural emblems, there are strong elements of tribal and lordship ties.
The elite declared themselves as kings who developed burhs, and identified their roles and peoples in Biblical terms.
Above all, as Helena Hamerow has observed, “local and extended kin groups remained…the essential unit of production throughout the Anglo-Saxon period.”
The effects persist in the 21st century as, according to a study published in March 2015, the genetic makeup of British populations today shows divisions of the tribal political units of the early Anglo-Saxon period.
Use of the term Anglo-Saxon assumes that the words Angles, Saxons or Anglo-Saxon have the same meaning in all the sources.
This term began to be used only in the 8th century to distinguish “Germanic” groups in Britain from those on the continent (Old Saxony and from the Anglia region in Northern Germany).
Catherine Hills summarised the views of many modern scholars in her observation that attitudes towards Anglo-Saxons, and hence the interpretation of their culture and history, have been “more contingent on contemporary political and religious theology as on any kind of evidence.”
So I’m not an “Anglo-Saxon, Diana – I am an AMERICAN, and as an AMERICAN, I know that the term “Racist” is a STUPID term, given that there is but one race on earth which is the human race, and as an AMERICAN, I know that people who sling the term “racist” around are really ignorant morons, so that people who use the term “racist” apparently are proud of putting their ignorance on public display for all to see,
That is what I know about “racism” as an AMERICAN!
How about you?
Paul Plante says
I would further remark, Diana, that it seems more than a bit “racist” on your part to be assigning me to a category I don’t belong in based on some kind of prejudices towards others that you harbor.
Just saying.
Slide Easy says
Asian countries for Asians.

Anti-racist is a code-word for Anti-White
Paul Plante says
And Diana, I think a grateful nation owes you a debt of eternal gratitude here by bringing in what you are calling, or seem to be calling, anyway, the “Anglo-Saxon Race” in the context of “racism.”
It is interesting that you see the “Anglo-Saxons” as a distinct race of people, which would then seem to make the Danes another distinct race, as well as the Normans, then, all of whom seemed to be quite racist towards each other, if actual history is any sort of guide.
And if that really is the case, that the Anglo-Saxons and Danes and Normans are all different races, that would seem to make New York state’s Democratic Socialist governor Andy Cuomo one of the greatest living racists we have in this nation today, bar none, because he believes that his race, the Italians, are the greatest race of all, far superior to all other races, including the Anglo-Saxons, as we see in a New York Daily News article entitled “Cuomo again defends Columbus amid renewed calls to remove statue” by Denis Slattery on June 11, 2020, where Andy’s blatant racism is on full display, to wit:
ALBANY — Gov. Cuomo is standing by his man.
The governor again defended New York City’s Christopher Columbus statue on Thursday, calling it a point of pride for Italian Americans like himself, as similar tributes to the explorer have been removed or targeted by protesters in recent days.
“I understand the feelings about Christopher Columbus and some of his acts, which nobody would support, but the statue has come to represent and signify appreciation for the Italian American contribution to New York,” Cuomo said during a briefing in Albany.
“For that reason, I support it.”
The governor has repeatedly maintained his support of Columbus despite opposition from both Native Americans and Latin American groups.
Last year, he dismissed calls to remove the statue, or rename Columbus Circle, as he marched in the Columbus Day parade in Manhattan.
“The Christopher Columbus statue was erected at a time when the Italian American community was being attacked,” he said at the time.
“The Christopher Columbus statue was more about solidarity with the Italian American community and respect for the Italian American community and that’s why the Italian American community was so offended that they could take down the Christopher Columbus statue.”
end quotes
Thanks for shining a necessary spotlight on this blatant racism for us.
As I say, a grateful nation owes you an eternal debt of gratitude for exposing this racism of Andy Cuomo for all the candid world to see.
It is very important to our national dialogue on this serious subject, and Diana, if you check out some pictures of Andy Cuomo, you will clearly see that Andy Cuomo is not white – he is brown, which makes him a person of color, n’est-ce pas?
So instead of the “white superiority” we are always hearing about from the liberals and Democrats and Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi, that would be a case of brown superiority on display there, which is proof that implicit bias is not an affliction of white people, and thanks for pointing that out, as well.
You have done us all a great service by doing so.

At a private fund-raiser Tuesday night at a waterfront Hamptons estate, Hillary Clinton danced alongside Jimmy Buffett, Jon Bon Jovi and Paul McCartney, and joined in a singalong finale to Hey Jude.
I stand between you and the apocalypse, a confident Mrs. Clinton declared to laughs, exhibiting a flash of self-awareness and humor to a crowd that included Calvin Klein and Harvey Weinstein and for whom the prospect of a Donald J. Trump presidency is dire.

Eulaland, as an intellectual exercise for the betterment of the minds of everybody in America in an effort on your part to heal these divisions you say Trump is causing, although I would say he was merely a symptom of those divisions, which began with Hussein Obama, especially when he abased himself before the Japanese emperor to apologize for the U.S. whipping the ***** of the Japanese during WWII, I would challenge you and your buddies and pals in the BLM to tell us where in the world slavery WAS NOT practiced prior to the American Civil War, so say, before 1850.
Thank you in advance for your attention to that important matter, for maybe when your BLM buddies and pals finally start putting the responsibility for them being slaves back onto their black ancestors in Africa, which is where it properly belongs, and finally accept the fact that they were sold into slavery by their own people, to whom their lives meant nothing, maybe some of that healing can finally begin.
And tell them that when they stop their mindless slaughter of each other, then, and only then, will people really start believing that to the black folks, black lives actually do matter, because right now, with the National Guard being called out in Atlanta, the concept of black lives mattering is a big ******* joke.

Eulaland says
You nailed it, Stuart, Fourth generation German immigrant. No slaves in my family tree. Disappointing, eh?
Paul Plante says
Interesting assertion, Eulaland!
Say, while we are on that subject, you not having any slavery in your family tree due to being a German immigrant,. and welcome to America, and by the way, the Romans, who as you know were brown, not white, took tens of thousands of Germans, who were white, as their slaves (what did you think Julius Caesar was doing all those years in Gaul), so maybe you’re really descended from some Roman Legio9naire, or maybe even Caesar, himself (wouldn’t that be something), being of a studious mind and an intellectual bent, which I am for, myself, you should check out and give some real serious consideration to a scholarly journal article on that very subject entitled “SLAVERY IN EARLY GERMANY” by E. A. THOMPSON in Hermathena No. 89 (May 1957), pp. 17-29, published by Trinity College Dublin https://www.jstor.org/stable/23039695 to make sure some of your relatives aren’t mentioned in there as owning other Germans as slaves, or Gauls, or maybe Danes, or even captured Romans, depending on where your people came from over there.
Be an interesting intellectual exercise if nothing else, plus it would give you some real certainty so that if challenged about there being no slavery in your family tree, you wouldn’t have to hesitate to say no.
Paul Plante says
If you are descended from the Suebi in Germany, Eulaland, and let’s face it, if you are a German immigrant, you had to be descended from some tribe or other over there originally, then there may well be slavery in your family tree,
As you might recall, the Suebi or Suebians, also spelled Suevi, or Suavi, were a large group of Germanic peoples originally from the Elbe river region in what is now Germany and Czechia.
In the early Roman era they included many peoples with their own names such as the Marcomanni, Quadi, Hermunduri, Semnones, and Lombards.
New groupings formed later such as the Alamanni and Bavarians and two kingdoms in the Migration Period were simply referred to as Suebian.
Although Tacitus specified that the Suebian group was not an old tribal group itself, the Suebian peoples are associated by Pliny the Elder with the Irminones, a grouping of Germanic peoples who claimed ancestral connections.
Tacitus mentions Suebian languages, and a geographical “Suevia”.
The Suevians were first mentioned by Julius Caesar in connection with the invasion of Gaul by the Germanic king Ariovistus during the Gallic Wars.
Unlike Tacitus he described them as a single people, distinct from the Marcomanni, within the larger Germanic category who he saw as a growing threat to Gaul and Italy in the first century BC, as they had been moving southwards aggressively, at the expense of Gallic tribes, and establishing a Germanic presence in the immediate areas north of the Danube.
In particular, he saw the Suebians as the most warlike of the Germanic peoples.
During the reign of Augustus the first emperor, Rome made aggressive campaigns into Germania, east of the Rhine and north of the Danube, pushing towards the Elbe.
After suffering a major defeat to the Romans in 9 BC, Maroboduus became king of a Suevian kingdom which was established within the protective mountains and forests of Bohemia.
The Suevians did not join the alliance led by Arminius.
Under the reign of Marcus Aurelius in the 2nd century AD, the Marcomanni, perhaps under pressure from East Germanic tribes to their north, invaded Italy.
By the Crisis of the Third Century, new Suebian groups had emerged, and Italy was invaded again by the Juthungi, while the Alamanni ravaged Gaul and settled the Agri Decumates.
The Alamanni continued exerting pressure on Gaul, while the Alamannic chieftain Chrocus played an important role in elevating Constantine the Great to Roman Emperor.
By the late 4th century AD, the Middle Danubian frontier inhabited by the Quadi and Marcomanni received large numbers of Gothic and other eastern peoples, escaping disturbances associated with the Huns.
In 406 AD, Suebian tribes led by Hermeric, together with other Danubian groups including Alans and Vandals, crossed the Rhine and overran Gaul and Hispania.
They eventually established the Kingdom of the Suebi in northwestern Spain and Portugal.
With the breaking up of Hunnic power after the Battle of Nedao there was also a short-lived Kingdom of the Suebi on the Danube, under Hunimund.
They were defeated by the Ostrogoths, one of the peoples of eastern origin who had been allies of the Huns.
In the sixth century the Suevic Longobards moved from the Elbe to become one of the major powers of the Middle Danube, in competition with the dynasties from the east such as the Herules, Gepids and Ostrogoths.
During the last years of the decline of the Western Roman Empire, the Suebian general Ricimer was its de facto ruler.
The Lombards, with many Danubian peoples both Suebian and eastern, later settled Italy and established the Kingdom of the Lombards.
The Alamanni, Bavarii and Thuringii who remained in Germania gave their names to the still-existing German regions of Swabia, Bavaria and Thuringia respectively.
Checking out some dates in history, Caesar was in Gaul in 58 BC, over 2,000 years ago, and at that time, slavery was common, as was the sale of slaves.
As to slaves in Germany, the Roman historian Tacitus reported in his work Germania (98 CE) that the Suebian warriors combed their hair back or sideways and tied it into a knot, allegedly with the purpose of appearing taller and more awe-inspiring on the battlefield.
Tacitus also reports that the fashion had spread to neighboring Germanic tribes among the younger warriors, while among the Suebians, the knot was sported even by old men as a status symbol, which “distinguishes the freeman from the slave”, with the most artful knots worn by the most wealthy nobles:
Now I must treat of the Suebi, in whom are comprised not one tribe only, as with the Chatti and the Tencteri; for they occupy the greater part of Germany, and are also distinguished by special national names, though styled in general Suebi.
One mark of the race is to comb the hair back over the side of the head and tie it low in a knot behind: this distinguishes the Suebi from other Germans, and the free-born of the Suebi from the slave.
— Tacitus, Germania, 38.
So before you say there are no slaves in your family tree, perhaps you’d better scout your backtrail real good to make sure that really is so.
Just saying.
Or are you one of those who thinks the only people ever enslaved were black, and the only place in the world where there were slaves was in the USA?

The Color of Crime:
• Black males age 18-35 years of age are only 1.8% of the U.S. population, yet have committed 52% of homicides from 1980-2008. Black males (all ages) are only 6% of the U.S. population, yet commit 46% of all violent crimes, and 50% of the gun homicides. If Blacks were removed from the equation, the U.S. gun homicide rate would be equal to Great Britain’s, who have some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the world.
• The Black homicide rate is 17 per 100,000, a rate over 9x that of the White rate, and comparable to some of those most murderous countries in the world. If the homicide rate for the U.S. were the White-only rate, the homicide rate would drop 84%, making the U.S. rate comparable to European countries.
• According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics 2018 survey of criminal victimization, there were 593,598 interracial violent victimizations (excluding homicide) between Blacks and Whites last year, including White-on-Black and Black-on-White attacks. Blacks committed 537,204 of those interracial felonies, or 90 percent, and Whites committed 56,394 of them, or less than 10 percent.
• Blacks constitute 13% of the U.S. population, but represent 27% of all criminal activity in the U.S.
• According to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting for 2018, of the homicide victims for whom race was known, 53.3% were Black, 43.8% were White and 2.8% were of other races. In cases where the race of the offender was known, 54.9% were Black, 42.4% were White, and 2.7% were of other races.
• Of the nearly 770,000 violent interracial crimes committed every year involving Blacks and Whites, Blacks commit 85 percent and Whites commit 15 percent. This means that a Black is 27 times more likely to attack a White person than vice versa.
• For each one standard deviation increase in proportion of Black population, firearm homicide rate is increased by 82.8%. Therefore, the U.S. has a Black problem, not a gun or violent crime problem. When Blacks commit crimes of violence, they are nearly three times more likely than non-Blacks to use a gun, and more than twice as likely to use a knife.
• 40% of gun crime occurs in just three cities: 596 (10%) – St Louis, MO, 53 (11%) – Detroit, MI, and 1,527 (27%) – Chicago, IL.
• Murder is the leading cause of death for Black men, ages 15 to 34. Their murderers are other Black men 93 percent of the time.
• Black males between 16-35 years of age are only 2.0% of the population, yet commit 72% of the street crime in America.
• The single best indicator of violent crime levels in an area is the percentage of the population that is Black.
• If New York City were all White, the murder rate would drop by 91 percent, the robbery rate by 81 percent, and the shootings rate by 97 percent. In an all-White Chicago, murder would decline 90 percent, rape by 81 percent, and robbery by 90 percent.
• Every year, approximately 6,000 blacks are murdered. This is a number greater than white and Hispanic homicide victims combined, even though blacks are only 12 percent of the national population. Blacks of all ages are killed at six times the rate of whites and Hispanics combined. That black death-by-homicide rate is a function of the black crime rate. The national rate of homicides committed by blacks is eight times that of whites and Hispanics combined. Black males between the ages of 14 and 17 commit homicide at 10 times the rate of white and Hispanic male teens combined.
• Homicide is not the only crime that is vastly racially disproportionate. New York City is representative of other crime spreading across the country. Blacks are 23 percent of New York’s population, but they commit 75 percent of all shootings, 70 percent of all robberies, and 66 percent of all violent crime, according to the victims of, and witnesses to, those crimes. Whites are 33 percent of the New York City’s population, but they commit less than 2 percent of all shootings, 4 percent of all robberies, and 5 percent of all violent crime.
• The United States is third in murders throughout the world, but if you omit just five Black cities (Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC, St Louis, and New Orleans) from the equation, then the United States is fourth from the bottom.
• Black serial killers have comprised over half of documented serial killers since the dawn of the 21st century at 56 percent, making up a total of 40 percent in years dating back to 1900. Blacks constituted 44% of the known serial killers during the 1995-2004 period and 38.2% of all multiple murderers (serial, mass, and spree combined) during 1976-1998 period. During the 2000-2010 decade, 62% of serial killers were Black.

Stuart Bell says
Sick of liberals trying to make you feel guilty about slavery?
All you need to do is remind them of a few historical points:
All races kept slaves all throughout history.
Most of the American slave-ships and American slave-markets were run by Jews. But no one blames modern Jews for slavery. Because if anyone today says anything was “run by Jews”, they’re immediately dismissed as a crazy anti-Semite, regardless of whether or not it’s true.
When the Trans-Atlantic slave-ships docked at African slave-markets to buy slaves, they bought slaves who were already slaves. It was Arab Bred Muslims and Black Africans themselves who captured members of rival tribes and took them to the coastal slave-markets to sell to the Whites and Jews. White people didn’t go into Africa and kidnap free black people. They barely needed to get off their ships to buy slaves, it was like buying McDonalds at a drive-through. The slaves were already at the slave-market in chains, ready to go.
In the 16th – 18th century, Africans enslaved 1.5 million White Europeans in the Barbary Slave Trade. African Muslims raided up the coastlines of Europe, particularly the British Isles but even as far as Iceland, kidnapping and enslaving White European Christians. The men were galley slaves, and the women were sex slaves. This was more brutal than working on a plantation or as a domestic servant.
Native Americans and Jews owned Black slaves too, but no one seems to assign a collective guilt to modern Native Americans and Jews for their slavery. In fact, Jews were the biggest slave-owners in America per capita.
Whites were the first people to stop slavery in modern times, whereas slavery still continues in Africa to this day. In Mauritania slavery was only made a punishable offense in 2007!
Less than 2% of Whites in America ever owned slaves
Only 5% of the black slaves transported across the Atlantic actually went to the modern U.S. Most in fact went to Latin America to serve Hispanic slave-owners. But we don’t look at modern Hispanics as evil slave-owners.”
Liberals have one color.

Wayne, this is crazy. You should shut this down. “North American Negroes”? Really?
This is an embarrassment to you, the Town, and your newspaper. Is this what you want the Mirror to be?
Note: The opinions expressed here are not the opinions of the Cape Charles Mirror. The 1st Amendment allows it, so will we. We will publish, and have, strong counter-arguments. This is a critical debate, and all sides, all members of our society should be heard.

Typical liberal, no debate, just moderation and cessation. Political correctness has softened you ability to think for yourself. Group-think is your friend. Maybe play dough, a dog or a coloring book will help. Enjoy!
