On Saturday, June 20th from 9 am-1 pm, the Pearl Market will have its first weekend Pop-Up.
This is truly exciting because the Pearl is an honest, true bit of fresh air for those longing for an establishment that is actually Shore, not someone’s vision of what the Shore should be.
The Pearl Market is located in the old Latimer shed at 4198 Latimer Siding Rd–on south end of Route 13 just across from the CBBT big electronic notice board.
Vendor manager Khyber Rooney told the Mirror, “Our goal is to really feature and highlight all great seafood, local produce, and artisans from our community.”
Jenna Rodriguez from Seafield Farm is the other market manager along with Rooney.
Inside the shed, there are several kiosks that will feature an evolving mix of vendors selling fresh produce, seafood, and craft products.
“We have one stage inside, and will also be adding another in the outside in the open space,” Rooney said. The Pearl will be featuring many of our local musical favorites.
Not just a market, the Pearl also has a modern kitchen and two bar locations, “We’re still in the process of defining the menu,” Rooney said. “We are planning on artisan bread sandwiches and burgers, and of course local oysters, clams, and steamed shrimp.”
The property contained several detached outbuildings. The Pearl has renovated them into artists’ studios and apartments. One of the Shore’s hottest young talents, Rachel Stevens will be opening her photography studio there this summer.
“We understand the real need for affordable housing. We had these buildings, and made the decision to renovate them into small, affordable apartments,” Rooney said.
Join them for the first weekend Pop-Up at the new Pearl Market and enjoy an evolving mix of fresh local produce, seafood, and works by our Eastern Shore artisans.

It is a shame that the author feels it necessary to preface such a great, positive story with yhe snarky aside regarding “someone’s version od what the Shore should be”.
I guess it isn’t enough to publish the news, when you can throw in a nice editorial comment pitting “us against them.”

Boy, there is a lot of critique of editorial writing style in here!
Must be a lot of real serious journalism students who read the Mirror and make these comments about style, which is a goodly part of what gives the Cape Charles Mirror its high intellectual tone, which in turn draws in intellectual readers from all over the world, not to read the content of the posts, but to read the comments on the style of the posts, which as an intellectual, I think is simply awesome!
And my goodness, what on earth is wrong with some snark in our daily reading fare?
