VIRGINIA BEACH — Pharrell Williams’ Something in the Water festival will not be held in April during the traditional College Beach Weekend as in years past, according to the city.
A new, different festival will take its place April 26-28.
Audacy Virginia plans to host pop and rock concerts at 31st Street on the beach. The radio company tried to bring a festival to the city this year but couldn’t pull the details together in time.
The city is considering whether to provide Audacy $750,000 in exchange for national advertising that will promote travel and tourism in Virginia Beach. The City Council is scheduled to vote on the sponsorship Tuesday.
Audacy’s event will feature a community component with events in the 17th and 24th street parks. Audacy provided entertainment at the 60th annual East Coast Surfing Championships in 2022.
It’s unclear if and when Something in the Water will be held in 2024. Williams said on social media that he wanted to change the date after inclement weather forced the organizers to cancel the final day of show during this year’s festival.
A new date for Something in the Water has not been announced.
