Biden on the Second Amendment: “When the amendment was passed … you couldn’t buy a cannon … and so there’s no reason why you should be able to buy certain assault weapons.”
The president makes this claim a lot, but it’s false. In New York, he went on to falsely claim the gun industry can’t be sued at all and is the only industry that enjoys federal liability protection. But, his pals at Pfizer, you know, the ones with the vaccine that doesn’t work, are the ones that can’t be sued.
But, back to the cannon thing.
Cannons are regulated as destructive devices under the National Firearms Act of 1934, but they’re still legal for civilians to own. Here’s the ATF’s definition of a destructive device under the NFA, which includes artillery. You can own one if you like, even a jet or a tank.
You can even rent a tank and crush a car with it on the Vegas strip.
Side Note: We did, in the early days of the Republic, commission privately owned warships to defend our merchant ships from pirates.
Marque and reprisal.

Just an FYI – that tank on the Vegas Strip or any tank in a citizen’s possession – there is no breach the cannon has been rendered incapable of firing by law
