  1. I smell something……and it isn’t a rat. It would be wrong to void the contract.
George Southern is MORE than qualified and will do it for less money. This isn’t a popularity contest. It was put out to bid for heaven’s sake. If the mayor voids the contract CLEARLY we need a new mayor. The CCBA needs to pull up their PANTIES AND DEAL WITH IT !

I personally am tired of a few people that seem to think they OWN the town council and the mayor. This town needs to be run by people that have some sort of idea how to run a business,

    THE LOWEST BID WINS PERIOD.

  2. The town pays for the website. Why is the town using taxpayers money to promote a few businesses anyway? If the business association wants to go with the higher bid looks like they SHOULD PAY THE DIFFERENCE.

    Case closed !

This Buchholz guy sounds like a smart cat.

In awarding contracts, it is not necessarily the case that the “lowest bid wins, period.” There are many things to be looked at, dollar amount is only part of the equation.

It does seem to me though that the Town trying to get out of the contract may be more fuss than its worth, go with it until the contract expires, or if there is a truly legitimate reason (i.e. they don’t do the work as described in the contract), then void the contract and readvertise. If those businesses opposed to the wave, llc pull their ads from the site, they will only be hurting themselves

  4. The Southerns have already made a compelling argument that they are dedicated marketers and that they are fully versed in all aspects of web management and analytics. One of the most interesting traits of the Wave to me was its marketing. I have looked up menus of local restaurants and then made reservations, I signed a contract with Eastern Shore Communications dialing from the Wave website, I have booked Hiltons, responding to promotions on the Wave site, and so on. Today, I looked up flights on Azerbaijan Airlines from NY to Tehran (this is probably an ad you wouldn’t see in Cape Charles, but I have a screenshot of the ad in the Wave, right next to Karen Gay’s wonderful write-up on the new Oyster Farm, if anyone is interested). To sum it up, the Southerns are skilled marketers.

The Wave was the only quality promotion venue for any business with regional interests. The Cape Charles by the Bay website, managed by the Southerns, will, undoubtedly, take the place of the Wave as the top promotion venue and it will have a huge positive impact on the local economy. If businesses don’t readily see that, they don’t quite get marketing.
