During its proposal for improvements to the Children’s Playground, the Citizens for Central Park mentioned that they had also mulled the opportunity of building a basketball court. While the group agreed that a court would be beneficial to the youths of Cape Charles, that idea did not go far.
Foremost, CCP felt the residential area next to this Park corner was not appropriate for such an “active noisy game”. A basketball court would also take up a substantial part of the area which they felt could be leveraged for more types of games.
Steve Bennett and Mayor Dize noted that they think basketball court is a good idea and could be accomplished, however, finding the funding and location are problems that need to be worked out.
About the Author
I agree that a B-Ball Court is needed but not in the proposed area. The park is such a family friendly area that more games like corn hole, hop scotch, horseshoes, shuffleboard, bocce ball, and volleyball would be appreciated by neighbors, citizens and visitors. Maybe land adjacent to the YMCA would be a good place for basketball and a skateboard park.
CCP just doesn’t want any activities at the park that old white people won’t participate in. If a ball bouncing is too noisy for people they should probably get a life. There’s no complaints that the concerts or soccer games are too noisy for people.

A neighbor of mine, in the city, put out a basketball hoop for his 5th grade son in a townhome community. Within one week colored boys his age had taken it over, by the end of the second week, 15-20 year old colored boys had taken it over from the younger colored boys. By the third week, it was gone because of the ‘element’ it brought to the $400,000 townhomes.
Can’t wait to hear your explanation of dislike for the group of people that brought you The United States of America.
