There is still a little time to say goodbye to a longstanding local landmark, Shore Memorial Hospital. Its demolition has been set in motion and should be completed sometime next year. The hospital has been an integral part of this community since 1970.
Over the years, Shore Memorial has weathered numerous challenges, but it was finally decommissioned when the new facility in Onley came online.
Local residents have fond memories. It’s where many were born, where loved ones were cared for, and where the dedicated medical staff made a difference in the lives of countless individuals. The hospital’s corridors and rooms still hold stories of hope, healing, and compassion.
The decision to demolish had much to do with the aging infrastructure and the need for modern healthcare facilities. Hospital officials concluded that building a new, state-of-the-art healthcare facility would better serve the entire community’s evolving healthcare needs.
Plans for the site are still in process at this time.

I have never been to this hospital since I was not here however I have had to go to the one in Only . As a NY resident and been in hospitals there ( usually overcrowded and not the cleanest) I found an amazing experience there with the cleanliness and friendliness along with excellent professional personnel.

This makes me sick! Such a shame that the hospital could not have been used for apartments, assisted living facility, or low income housing. Something rather than demolishing it!

Pam I am with you. Northampton County is tearing down and destroying too much history. The monument in Eastville, the railroad that created all the towns south to Cape Charles, the hospital and our 1914 jail which could be open to tours. I worked there and the building was neat. At least they are trying to salvage the small 1907 jail behind it.
