    1. ‘furbabies’???……Really?……..If they are to be treated like family, maybe they can get a job.

  1. It should be made illegal EVERYWHERE .

Would you tie your child up in the garden and leave them there ?
    No !!
So why do it to a furbaby ?
    A life is a life .
How can anyone be so cruel ?!

  2. Stop it’s cruel and no animal should have to live it’s life like that if they don’t want to take care of an animal they shouldn’t get one.

  3. This makes me sick. If you can’t treat them like family then you don’t need them. I drive around Exmore and see this everywhere makes we want to just go let them run lose a pray they find a better home. They don’t choose you. You choose them. If you can’t or won’t take care of them you don’t need them.

    1. As I said last month………

With what is ‘really’ going on, tall boats and bird festivals are the last thing that the citizens of the eastern shore should be concerned with. Have you all taken a good look at the actions, mannerisms, and habits of a large portion of the population? You can’t put lipstick on a pig……

      1. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig. However, you cannot make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. Sounds like you need some work on your cliches…….how about a Cliche Festival?

        1. With what is ‘really’ going on, working on my clichés is the last thing that you should be concerned with. Have you all taken a good look at the actions, mannerisms, and habits of a large portion of the population? If you would like to discuss me please leave a working phone number in your next reply.

P.S. If you don’t like a large portion of the population, you are free to leave.

          1. I didn’t notice a challenge or liberal. You are just a typical come here.

        2. You have no idea who I am….I guess you think this W.W.W. to be a real world. A world where a 19 year old Asian man can log in and post as a 71 year old Greek lady, a 48 year old black boy can log in and post as a 25 year old white girl.

          Your challenge was this……

‘If you would like to discuss me please leave a working phone number in your next reply.’

My advise to you is to try to comprehend what it is that you read and look over that log before you leap.

Note: Okay guys, I think you have both had your say. Let’s give this one a rest for a bit…instead, maybe you should agree to meet for a cold beer at Kelly’s or the Shanty?

  4. I am in favor of a NO-Teathering ordinance. Currently Northampton County has this phantom ordinance which is unenforceable due to the lack of animal control officers to police every dog tied up.

    Northampton County, Virginia
    May 10, 2004

No animal shall be tethered for more than 12 hours in a 24 hour period. Tethers must be at least 10 feet long.

    § 95.05 TETHERING OF ANIMALS.

    (A) An animal owner in the county shall allow each animal to (i) easily stand, sit, lie, turn about and make all other normal body movements in a comfortable, normal position for the animal and (ii) interact safely with other animals in the enclosure. When an animal is tethered, “adequate space” means a tether that permits the above actions and is appropriate to the age, size, and health of the animal; is attached to the animal by a properly applied collar, halter, or harness configured so as to protect the animal from injury and prevent the animal or tether from becoming entangled with other objects or animals, or from gaining access to public thoroughfares, or from extending over an object or edge that could result in the strangulation or injury of the animal; and is at least ten feet in length or three times the length of the animal whichever is longer, as measured from the tip of its nose to the base of its tail, except when the animal is being walked on a leash or is attached by a tether to a lead line. When freedom of movement would endanger the animal, temporarily and appropriately restricting movement of the animal according to professionally accepted standards for the species is considered provision of adequate space. Provided, however, that no animal shall be tethered for more than 12 hours in a 24-hour period.

    (B) Animals involved in agricultural activities shall not be subject to this section.

    (C) It shall be an unlawful act if any person violates any provision of this section and it shall constitute a Class 4 misdemeanor.

It’s up to each and every one of us to contact our Board of Supervisors and speak your mind.

Editor’s Note: Thanks for posting the current ordinance.

  5. This is BS: “Tethering is allowed by right at the state level”

This is from the Suffolk animal ordinance:
Sec. 10-42. – Unattended tethering of dogs prohibited.
It shall be unlawful to tether any unattended dog whether or not the dog has been provided adequate
space. A violation of this section shall be punishable as a class 4 misdemeanor.

  6. “Humanity's true moral test, its fundamental test…consists of its attitude towards those who are

at its mercy: animals.” Milan Kundera

“He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart
of a man by his treatment of animals.” Immanuel Kant

Maybe the law should be put on the books, that he who is caught tethering an animal shall be tethered themselves using the same rope, same length, at the same location for the exact duration their animal was tethered. Seems fair enough. Chas Cornweller
