Cape Charles Town Treasurer Debra Pocock has announced her retirement effective August 31st. She has served the town in this role for nine years.
Over the years, Debra has worked in an impeccably professional way to ensure the financial stability and prosperity of Cape Charles. Pocock has seen the town through economic ups and downs, consistently steering its financial ship by improving process and acquiring better tools to do the job.

From economic downturns to unforeseen emergencies, Debra was always at the forefront, devising strategies to safeguard the town’s financial health.
Pocock came on board during a time when confidence and trust in Cape Charles government was at its lowest point. One of her top achievements was the re-establishment of strong community trust. Through clear communication and an open-door policy, she made it a priority to engage with townspeople and address their concerns. This transparent approach not only fostered trust but also empowered residents to ask questions and actively participate in the town’s financial discussions.
Debra was a forward-thinker who embraced technology to streamline processes and enhance financial efficiency. She played a key role in modernizing the town’s financial systems, ensuring that resources were allocated optimally to meet the needs of the rapidly evolving Town of Cape Charles.
In retirement, Debra hopes to spend a lot of time on her little farm where she raises a variety of animals. She also hopes to one day become a Virginia Master Naturalist.
