Cape Charles, Va. – Phase III of the Town’s Community Trail project on south Peach Street has been completed, marking the culmination of years of effort, frustration, mismanagement, and normal bureaucratic challenges.
Bob Panek, the capital projects manager, had the uneviable job of navigating the VDOT specifications. Panek’s perseverance through numerous delays and the re-working of design requirements helped finally bring the project to its marginally acceptable conclusion.
Note: VDOT covered approximately 80% of the project’s cost, so at least Cape Charles has that going for it.
The completion of this phase represents a significant change to the aesthetic and functionality of the area. Despite some criticism regarding a perceived loss of parking, town officials have claimed that the project has, in fact, increased the availability of authorized and safe parking. According to the town, prior to the project, parking in the center of the street was illegal and unsafe (was it though?). The new design now permits the so-called legal use of the center street area.
The newly completed section of the trail is purported to benefit the community by providing improved infrastructure and promoting safer, legal parking options for residents and visitors. Okay, Buckwheat.
Completion of Phase III, held together by layers of gooey pap, just like the rest of the New Cape Charles, signals the end of an era, a death nell for a time when this town was still quirky and interesting. It appears the whole dream of this town is to erase the past, and raise its facade, culture, and soul to the level of stupidity and stale drivel found in the rich, suburbon bourgeoisie enclaves of Richmond, DC, Maryland, New Jersery, and New York.
So it goes.
So it goes, and so it went!
And if Cape Charles, by erasing its past, is trying to raise its facade, culture, and soul to the level of stupidity and stale drivel found in the rich, suburban bourgeoisie enclaves of New York, they have some real heavy lifting to do because the rich, suburban bourgeoisie enclaves of New York own STOOPID, and I’m not sure that Cape Charles is really a contender for the title of THE MOST STUPID ******* PLACE IN AMERICA, but deserves at least an honorable mention for giving it the old college try!
I have a question. The new project looks nice. Not sure how many parking spaces were added or loss. But why is front end parking safer in this location than Mason Avenue?
Just trying to make some kind of sense of how the elitist think.
Hmmm…Scotiagirl wonders why these vehicles didn’t do the “RIGHT THING” and back into those spaces?
And so it goes….indeed.
Imagine stuffing
$11,000,000,000,000°° into a fund to $timulate the economy and perhaps also some pet political projects.
What could possibly go wrong?
Looks to me as if you will, in the future, need to have a Lawer onboard whilst attempting to Legally park in Cape Charles.
(except for golfcarts)
We now have electric golfcarts and ATVs that can hit 60 in about 2.5 seconds flat *SILENT* That’s a kinda NHRA Dragster spec. Fast.
I recently was wizzed by one whilst getting mail from my mailbox out here in the County. (approx. 2′ brushoff) *SILENT*
I am sorry for the animals dependent on the sound of a dependable engine to warn them before sudden impact. Humans too….
Take note Cape Charles..
