Why I’m Running for Town Council: David Gay

March 11, 2018 by Wayne Creed 1 Comment

Cape Charles is a wonderful community that embraces the hometown values that have been the cornerstone of American culture since the very beginning. Our commitment to children is visible by the creation of the Christian School, Central Park, the Library, Free Fishing Pier and Beach, as well as, our Municipal Recreation Department. We recognize our spiritual roots through the many churches that are located throughout the Historic District. We have a strong entrepreneurial spirit that is evident by the number of new businesses that are opening every year.
My wife and I have been part of this community since 2002 when we bought our house on Monroe Avenue. Back then, we could tell Cape Charles was a town that is on the move and wanted to participate in that change. When we retired, we made Cape Charles our permanent home. Since becoming full time residents, we have met many wonderful people who share our view that Cape Charles’ best days are ahead of us.

I love this town and I feel it is important to give back to the community. Since 2013 I have served on two Town Boards, the Historic District Review Board and more recently joined the Community Enhancement Board. Both organizations are dedicated to preserving the historic integrity of the town while improving its economic vitality. Although these Boards are having a good impact on the town, I feel that I can do more to effect positive change as a member of the Town Council.

We can continue to build on the progress already achieved by the Town Council and improve the quality of life for all citizens of Cape Charles by promoting:

– Increased parking and safe street lighting for the Business and Beach districts
– Affordable housing for teachers and service workers
– Strong regulations & enforcement to discourage blight and abandoned structures
– A review of our water quality standards to ensure drinkability from the tap
– A comprehensive marketing plan to encourage retirees and/or entrepreneurs to move to Cape Charles.

As an individual citizen I can only join in the choir regarding your concerns, but as a member of the Town Council, I will make it my mission to address these issues to improve our community for all.

Please vote for DAVID CHRISTOPHER GAY on May 1, 2018, Candidate for Town Council

Well said, David. You have our votes! Your goals should be the goals of the entire council.
