It took it a while, but cancel culture has finally made it to the Eastern Shore of Virginia. In this case, the target is Kelly’s Gingernut Pub in Cape Charles.
I had a hard time believing it at first, but then readers sent in the social media posts.
The effort to dox and boycott the pub is being led by Jay Ford, who is the Virginia Voices Outreach Coordinator for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Quite a few of Mr. Ford’s Facebook friends apparently weighed in, but disturbingly for Northampton County, Janet Sturgis, At Large County Planning Commissioner, and Margaret Van Clief, the face of the Nature Conservancy here on the Eastern Shore, also voiced approval for boycotting Kelly’s.
Apparently what sent the boycott into action was a post the owner Gene Kelly put on his personal Facebook page. Mr. Kelly voiced concerns that many other Americans have voiced, including Charles Barkley and Mike Ditka. Essentially, fans are tired of sports being hijacked and poisoned by woke social justice warriors. The post has been taken down, but to paraphrase, Kelly stated, “Baseball is back. Can we not have any of this BLM BS and just play baseball?”
Seeing Kelly’s post, Ford went on the offensive, accusing Kelly of being a racist, and calling for an all-out boycott. Below are some of the things posted:
At this point, the Nature Conservancy’s Margaret Van Clief joins the fray, once again using the term “racist” freely:
Disclaimer: Before getting into Janet Sturgis’ involvement, it should be noted that this writer has known Gene Kelly for almost 20 years. My son practically grew up in the Kelly household and is referred to as their third son. I was there to witness how hard the Kelly’s worked to convert the old bank into the pub. I don’t think people realize what a monumental task that was. Since its opening, Kelly’s Gingernut Pub has been one of the most diverse small businesses on the Shore. Gene has never cared about skin color, only results.
One of the disturbing aspects of this is how a Northampton County Planning Commissioner could join and support the boycotting of a local mom and pop business:
Gene Kelly is not a racist. His only crime here is that he is a conservative, which is all it takes for the Woke Mob to come after him. These people also understand the timing is perfect–most mom and pops are barely staying afloat due to the coronavirus, so an organized boycott could be the last straw that breaks the camel’s back.
One of the biggest problems facing society is that everyone somehow feels they have a privileged view of the world, that they breathe rarefied air and hold the moral ground when in reality there are merely multiple points of view.
Using social media for the attack is extremely dangerous. Most people on social media have hundreds, sometimes thousands of connections. What Ford, Sturgis, and Van Clief have engaged in is 4G networked warfare. That is, assume Ford has several thousand ‘friends’ on Facebook. Each friend also has hundreds of friends, and so on.
Social network analysis (SNA) exposes the individual actors, people within the network and it ties or links relationships or interactions that connect them. How long before the message on the network reaches one of the not so peaceful groups?
Fighting for social justice, protesting, debating, activism, exercising 1st amendment rights are all great, and should be encouraged.
But there is a line, and these people have crossed it. Disagreement is one thing, but trying to destroy someone’s livelihood, their life’s work is unacceptable. Pooh, poohing the collateral damage that will happen to the pub staff is also unacceptable. Not unacceptable in a partisan or political way, but in a human decency way. And in the end, for what really?
Janet Sturgis should quietly resign her commission. If she does not, the Board of Supervisors needs to take appropriate action. If they do nothing and Sturgis is allowed to stay on, we have to assume that also approve of attacking Northampton’s small businesses.
Silence and inaction equal complicity.
As for CBF and The Nature Conservancy, the same applies. These groups receive millions of dollars from donors who assume they are partners, and are here to nurture coastal communities, not destroy them.
Silence and inaction equal complicity.
Paul Plante says
Are we really all equal here in the United States of America?
Or is it a case of where some are more equal, like Jay Ford and Janet Sturgis, while others, like Gene Kelly, who is accused on the ATTACK MEDIA that FACEBOOK is of expressing a thought such as “(C)an we not have any of this BLM BS and just play baseball,” a thought shared by many in America, is far, far less equal than they who are so very superior, which is Jay Ford, Janet Sturgis and all their FACEBOOK buddies and pals who have been sent by God down here to earth to call out and harm the wicked amongst us like Gene Kelly, who made the serious mistake of suggesting that BLM, which engages in violence and intimidation tactics reminiscent of the KKK, is actually violent, when it is so very obvious that their violence and intimidation are really just forms of “peaceful protest?”
Donny Pruitt says
The Sturgis woman has been mouthy and stirring the pot ever since they brought her to The Shore. I am not so sure she can help her self, as she is the poster child for a ‘Come-Here’ and has never attempted to assimilate.

All the “Left” has are lies and name calling; no honest debate of issues. Without the main stream media, social media, academia, crooked politicians, and foreign money, they have nothing. Can’t wait for the election!

You forgot passion and out-of-control emotionalism, which is their tendency to display emotion freely or to rely on or place too much value on emotion.

I see both sides. At the end, I agree with Me Kelly. In such a political atmosphere, when everyone is offended by everything and the violence being displayed, leave our sports alone. Let us have one little bit of downtime when it’s not an agenda, political opinion, or race issue!

Or Commie China in the time of Chairman Mao and his RED GUARDS who seem to be the model being employed by these self-righteous internet thugs and the BLACK LIVES MATTER crowd who were the star players in an Albany, New York Times Union article entitled “Clashes, arrests as protests collide in Saratoga Springs” on July 31, 2020, to wit:
SARATOGA SPRINGS – A Back the Blue rally in the city Thursday evening sparked a counterprotest that continued into the late evening and was followed by a heavy police presence.
City Commissioner of Public Safety Robin Dalton said that it started after pro-police marchers in Congress Park were met with a smaller group of counterprotesters.
A fist fight broke out, said Black Lives Matter leader Lexis Figuereo, after one of the pro-police marchers punched one of the Black Lives Matter protesters in the face.
“No one there was to protect us whatsoever.”
“After that, we were angry and we went in the street.”
Dalton said that the city police warned the protesters to move off of Broadway in front of Congress Park.
City police late Thursday issued a statement that said the “Back the Blue” rally started at 6 p.m. and in the early stages, a group supporting Black Lives Matter and All of Us held a counterprotest.
Ultimately both groups converged in Congress Park near the Canfield Casino.
The “Back the Blue” rally ended at 7:45 p.m. and those participants left the area, police said.
Counterprotesters continued their rally in the intersection of Broadway and Congress Street for a period of time, police said, and they moved north on Broadway by walking in the road, “disrupting traffic and closing down streets.”
These actions continued up and down Broadway for about 45 minutes and at about 8:30 p.m., city Police Lt. Jason Mitchell approached leaders of the group and asked them to leave the road.
The group leaders were advised they could continue their protest on the sidewalks but not in the road, according to the police account.
Mitchell and police command staff members were concerned that someone would get hit by a car in the darkness as it was difficult to see the people laying in the roadway.
Protesters refused to leave the road after numerous warnings, police said, so officers moved in and made arrests.

One has to wonder where these A-HOLES get the Constitutional right from the block or impede the movement of American citizens on a public thoroughfare.
Does the First Amendment grant them the right to take over a public street and block movement on it by laying in the road like a pack of real A-HOLES that they are?
This is the conduct that this Jay Ford and Janet Sturgis are backing.
I wouldn’t be surprised to read next that these A-HOLES have taken Gene Kelly into custody to submit him to a Commie-style struggle session, a form of public humiliation and torture that was used by the Communist Party of China (CPC) at various times in the Mao era, particularly years immediately before and after the establishment of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and during the Cultural Revolution.
The aim of a struggle session was to shape public opinion and humiliate, persecute, or execute political rivals and those deemed class enemies like Gene Kelly who has committed the ultimate crime of daring to question BLACK LIVES MATTER.
As to struggle sessions, they developed from similar ideas of criticism and self-criticism in the Soviet Union from the 1920s.
The term refers to class struggle; the session is held, ostensibly, to benefit the target, by eliminating all traces of counterrevolutionary, reactionary thinking.
Struggle campaigns emerged as a tactic to secure the allegiance of the Chinese people during the land reform campaign.
That campaign sought to mobilize the masses through intensive propaganda followed by “Speak Bitterness” sessions in which peasants were encouraged to accuse land owners.
The strongest accusations were incorporated into scripted and stage-managed public mass accusation meetings.
Cadres then cemented the peasants’ loyalty by inducing them to actively participate in violent acts against landowners.
This process served multiple purposes.
First, it demonstrated to the masses that the party was determined to subdue any opposition (generally labeled “class enemies”), by violence if necessary.
Second, potential rivals were crushed.
Third, those who attacked the targeted foes became complicit in the violence and hence invested in the state.
All three served to consolidate the party’s control, which was deemed necessary because party members constituted a small minority of China’s population, just as BLACK LIVES MATTER is a very small minority in this country.
Klaus Mühlhahn, professor of China Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, wrote:
Carefully arranged and organized, the mass trials and accusatory meetings followed clear and meticulously prearranged patterns.
Dramatic devices such as staging, props, working scripts, agitators, and climactic moments were used to efficiently engage the emotions of the audience — to stir up resentment against the targeted groups and mobilize the audience to support the regime.

As to the fate awaiting Gene Kelly for expressing blasphemous thoughts about BLACK LIVES MATTER, Margaret Chu, writing retrospectively for the Cardinal Mindszenty Foundation’s Mindszenty Report, in November 1998, said:
‘…the Cultural Revolution began and I was transferred to another labor camp…’
‘Two years after I had been in this new camp, I received a parcel from my family.’
‘Immediately, an inmate accused me of giving something out of it to another prisoner.’
‘I was dragged to the office.’
‘Without any investigation, the officer assembled the entire camp to start a struggle session against me.’
‘In the session the officer suddenly asked me whether I had committed my alleged original crime leading to my 8-year sentence.’
‘I was stunned.’
‘It then dawned on me that this session was in fact prearranged.’
‘The parcel was only a pretense.’
‘Their real motive was once again to force me to admit all my alleged crimes.’
‘”I did not commit any crimes,” I asserted firmly.’
‘Immediately two people jumped on me and cut off half of my hair.’
‘The officer screamed again: “are you guilty?”‘
‘I replied firmly again, “no.”‘
‘Two people then used a rope to tie my hands back tightly.’
‘It was connected to a loop around my shoulder and underneath my armpits.’
‘It was knotted in such a way that a slight movement of my hands would cause intense pain.’
‘This struggle session lasted for two hours.’
‘Afterwards, they untied me and handcuffed me instead.’
‘The handcuffs became a part of me for the next one hundred days and nights…’

I wonder if Gene Kelly will be able to make his famous bean-burgers wearing handcuffs as his punishment for questioning BLACK LIVES MATTER, our new overlords.

Who is a Jay Ford and why is he feeling so guilty? I bet his ancestors could not afford enough land to require slaves, but just wants to feel guilty and be a part of the BLM sh1t show. The liberals came out of their holes to support and engage with him. Wow! It is almost sad to read.

In my opinion the real racism in this country is sustained by the whining liberal hypocrites of which J.C. Ford is an Eastern Shore founding member. BLM is the epitome of racism. The woke leftist claim to want a have a National dialog as long as you are in total agreement with their agenda. Ford and the (total lack of) Planning Commissioners should just shut their pie hole when it comes to working for a profit; a subject of which they know nothing. I’m off to Kelly’s for lunch. Bye!
William Barton says
I will be eating at Kelley’s Pub more often. He speaks for many of us.
Mary Finney says
Thank you, Wayne, for helping to expose this horrible behavior. The hypocrisy and hate coming from these individuals attacking Gene for his PERSONAL and justified opinion was sickening to read. Ford has his Facebook setting to public in order for a larger audience to read it, so I agree that the ripples from this attack can spread far and wide. Deafeningly silent, however, is the Chesapeake Bay Foundation ( Ford’s employer) and the Nature Conservancy ( Van Clief’s employer). I personally reached out to the CBF via messenger and phone last week to ask what their stance on Ford’s bullying on a private citizen was. My messages and phone call were met with no reply. I have not attempted to contact the Nature Conservancy yet, but will do so this week. I encourage all to do the same. As is always the case with this liberal “woke” crowd, Free Speech is only allowed when it agrees with their world view. All other voices must be stamped out, and too bad if that means destroying a business. SHAME ON ALL THOSE WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED in the smearing of a kind and generous man’s good name!!!
Dave Moore says
Time to CANCEL some of these leftist idiots! November is coming!
Dave says
This is an example of social dysfunction. Mr. Ford’s first responsibility is to contact Mr. Kelly and better understand his intent, There are multiple interpretations 1) support the message of BLM but not actions 2) support message of BLM and reasonable protests over police killing 3) support Intent behind BLM, peaceful protests, but not violence to people and property 4) probably ten other possible intents. To assume a racist intent is evidence of stereotyping of comments is just as destructive as what he believes was stereotyping by Mr. Kelly. Sounds more political than rational- but then again I will call Mr. Ford to better understand his reasoning
Sara Baldwin says
Amen.
Laura says
Leave it to Dave.
Ron Pruitt says

Stuart Bell says
Why do you care about his reasoning?
Kearn SCHEMM says
Why would this Ford fellow want to destroy a business that has been so much help to Cape Charles? Kelly hires many, many Black employees, treats his Black customers with respect and is welcoming to all. I will be more likely to stop supporting the CBF than the Gingernut Pub. We still have freedom of speech in this country, thank God, and Kelly is entitled to express his views without fear of attacks against his business. If you disagree with the idea, attack it, argue on the marketplace of ideas, don’t try to destroy the person who holds the view.
tokenny says
Let’s look at it another way – as business man why would you post such a statement? Surely, you don’t think all your customers share your same viewpoint? Some are just damn right rabid over “their” cause.
It was a dumb-assed mistake by Gene.
VA Patriot says
You are absolutely wrong. A business person should not fear exercising his right to free speech protected by the 1st Amendment. What is wrong is the bullying by the Democrat Shore Leftists of this business owner for exercising his rights. Maybe everyone should Boycott Fords Farm Produce instead.
tokenny says
That was bait. Fear? It’s called smart business. Just like the business person has the right to express his free speech so do those that disagreed with him. If they want to boycott, they have that right too.
Gene could be pulling beers, saying hi and then express his opinions about BLM but nope, needed to put it on facebook with the rest of the idiots. YOU DON”T CONTROL THE AUDIENCE OR HAVE CONTROL OF YOUR STATEMENT ONCE YOU POST IT AND IT’S SET AS PUBLIC!
You reap what you sow.
And Wayne, I don’t think you helped matters by putting it in the Mirror you just added more wood to the fire. Those that didn’t see it on facebook are sure gonna look now.
So Patriot you gonna stand up for your right to post comments on Facebook or are you gonna protect your livelihood?
Note: Gene’s baseball comment was actually private, on his personal account. His so-called FB friends took the private comment and made it public. He almost always just posts stuff about music. Sometimes he posts stuff that is just conservative, which of course to people like you, makes him a white nationalist or racist. So it goes.
tokenny says
“Sometimes he posts stuff that is just conservative, which of course to people like you, makes him a white nationalist or racist. So it goes.”
Wayne don’t make yourself looking like an ass. My comments had nothing to do with liberal/conservative views but you just wanted to throw that in there. I guess you are as radical as the radical liberals.
News flash – you can actually be a conservative and support BLM.
Paul Plante says
Why on earth would a sane and rational person want to support BLM, tokenny?
And please give us a rational answer based on logic.
Are you personally for doing away with the “nuclear family” as BLM advocates?
Do you see the Black folks as a separate race that is superior to the white race?
Mary Knight says
Wayne, Gene’s comment wasn’t private. The screenshots show it as public, and anyone visiting his page after viewing those screenshots saw many, many more racist posts on his page. This wasn’t some one-off from a supposed conservative, and both he and Colleen doubled-down all over Facebook with more racist comments in response to the criticism. Are you really willing to lie to defend racism?
Note: I could be wrong, but I think only business pages can be public. Personal pages are always private, and you need to be a friend to most content.
Paul Plante says
For those of us who don’t waste time we don’t have to waste on friviolities like FACEBOOK, Mary Knight, since this site has a global reach, would you please post in here for the candid world to read what you are saying are racist posts, which is merely your opinion, which no more makes them “racist” than the man in the moon.
Ray Otton says
“And Wayne, I don’t think you helped matters by putting it in the Mirror you just added more wood to the fire. Those that didn’t see it on facebook are sure gonna look now.”
Oh look, tokenny once again advocating for other Americans to STFU.
There’s a definite trend here inspired by the fact that Liberals want Conservatives to be silent, Conservatives want Liberals to keep talking.
Keep talking, boy. (Sorry, did I just gender you?)
Ray Otton says
“News flash – you can actually be a conservative and support BLM.”
Now you’re just making shit up.
Every informed Conservative supports black lives, as well as all other lives, even the ones still in the womb. Hey, that what we do and we’re proud as hell about it. Can’t say the same for the Progressive Death Cult.
OTOH, no informed Conservative supports BLM, the organization. They are an outright Marxist organization.
How do we know?
They’ve told us so, all over social media.
At least they’re more honest than you.
Mary says
Mary Knight- Gene’s original comment WAS on his personal page- JC Ford screenshotted it and posted it with a PUBLIC setting on HIS page. So Wayne is correct. You are wrong. The one who has acted inappropriately ( to put it mildly) is Ford. Gene has NOTHING to apologize for, even though he did make a very sincere one after the “woke” censors attacked him.
Todd Holden says
Every post that I have read of yours is always anti-american. You have a problem. Others here call you out. I’m not even sure you know what that means. You have no pride or shame…you are an anti-american liberal. Liberals are borderline domestic terrorist, just as BLM.
Paul Plante says
Before you go to a restaurant or bar, tokenny, do you do a surveillance or investigation of the owner’s statements to see if you should eat or drink there?

Paul Plante says
Should he be shackled and beaten?
Should he maybe have to run a gauntlet?
What is the proper punishment anymore for an apology deemed insufficient and inadequate?
Whatever it is, it should be something real severe, like, well, I don’t know, but severe, anyway.
Publius Americanus says

Absolutely, these people who work for the county should be fired. Trust me, if a conservative even hinted at destroying a business because they do not agree with the owner there would be riots in the streets. We have to stand up and cancel this @#$! Cancel Culture! Good on you Gene for having the courage to voice your opinion.
Thomas D. Giese says
This was taken from the Mirror history section today brought up to date by me.
1794 (2020) After a year in office ( on social media) as head of the ill-named Committee of Public Safety (leftist woke) during which he (They) instigated the frenzied bloodletting of Le Terreur ( destroy any person, business or organization not holding to the orthodoxy )Citizen Maximilian Robespierre (leftist wokes) is arrested by what passes as responsible authorities (Trump supporter) in the French Revolutionary (US social revolution to ) destroy the government. What finally ended Robespierre’s (wokes) reign was not just the 17,000+ heads (people, businesses)he ordered lopped off (destroyed) already, it was the sudden increase of executions (smear campaigns)that came from his brainchild, Law of 22 Prarial (10 June). The law established a tribunal that was no more than a court of condemnation (woke lynch mob) which dispensed with the bothersome trouble of evidence and procedures and witnesses: it permitted executions (destroy everything) to be carried out under the simple suspicion of anti-revolutionary (anti leftist) activity by any citizen. This sad chapter in US history came to a halt with the re-election of, the greater president in US history, Donald Trump
Note: Thank you, Doctor. This is brilliant.
JJ says
I think that Kelly’s is the Cape Charles Christmas ornament this year. Not sure if he gets a portion of the sales, but maybe, as a show of support, we could do our Christmas shopping early and purchase the ornament at the restaurant.
Michael J Ward says
“Silence and inaction equals complicity.” These are the closing words of this post.
Yet the thrust of the blog post is condemning those who chose to be active and not quiet. You are not being logically consistent and practicing what you preach.
You condemn Mr. Ford and others for speaking out against what they perceive to be an offensive remark by an individual on his social network, and then you name certain individuals who expresses opposition to his views and note the organizations for which they are associated with should somehow hold them accountable for speaking out, while objecting that they are associating the original comment with his business. So where is your intellectual consistency? Who then is really promoting the “cancel culture”?
Note: From the newspaper article, “Fighting for social justice, protesting, debating, activism, exercising 1st amendment rights are all great, and should be encouraged.” An organized boycott of a small, family-owned business on the Shore, that employs people from Shore, is another thing. Funny, the cancel knife can cut both ways.
Uncle Pen says
No, we are calling out wrong from right. It has nothing to do with equality or fairness. Please seek your political correctness elsewhere.
Paddy Hickman says
They lied to you. There is not a damn thing ‘equal’ under the sun.
Mary Knight says
This is consequence culture, not cancel culture. Gene Kelly made several, public, racist posts, and you are portraying him as some kind of victim of those who would hold him accountable. There is no mention here, of course, of the Black community hurt by Gene Kelly’s actions. They are the real victims. Getting your White Nationalist following to champion Kelly’s only serves to strengthen the resolve of good, decent people who won’t be giving their money to support racism in Cape Charles. We see exactly who the Kelly’s crowd is, and they are deplorable.
Note: Building alliances based on mutual hate seems like a failing strategy.
Dave Moore says
I will make it a point to eat at Kelly’s more often now and so will my thousands of friends!
Paul Plante says
This talk by the holier-than-thous and the exceedingly self-righteous like Mary Knight, whose excrement like that of Hillary Clinton is said to have the scent of roses and lilacs, of holding Gene Kelly accountable for posting a comment wondering why people have to see political statements being made at sporting events is patently ridiculous. something only a moron would say.
What is he being held to account for?
Is he supposed to like seeing political statements being made at sporting events?
Is that now required to be a “GOOD AMERICAN?”
Mary Knight says
Anti-racism work is only political if your politics are White Nationalism.
Stuart Bell says
Asian countries for Asians.
Black countries for Blacks.
but White countries for everybody?
That’s genocide.
Anti-racist is a code word for Anti-White
Paul Plante says
In all truth, Mary Knight, I am baffled by what you just said there, not knowing exactly what it is that you did say, when you said “Anti-racism work is only political if your politics are White Nationalism,” which means exactly nothing to me because I can’t comprehend what that means, and perhaps you are not sure yourself, but if you study history, you will find the Black nationalists even more political than the so-called “white nationalists” and they are racists.
Ryan says
This is right and stuart bell is a racist
Paul Plante says
Go for it, Mary Knight!
As one of the good, decent people in America who won’t be giving their money to support racism in Cape Charles, get out your whips and chains and clubs and iron pipes and flog the living be-jaysus right out of the deplorable White Nationalist following of the Cape Charles Mirror who dare to stand up for the rights of Gene Kelly to hold his own opinion about anything here in the United States of America.
Beat them right on down into the ground, Mary Knight!
Give them some what-for!
Teach them deplorables a lesson they need to learn.
And when you say “there is no mention here, of course, of the Black community hurt by Gene Kelly’s actions,” it’s probably because the Black community was not at all hurt in any way by Gene Kelly’s action of wondering why the **** all this political BULL**** has to be a part of baseball in America, and that ism just something you made up, because you don’t know if it is true, nor can you prove it so.
And since you are so obviously in the right here, not being a deplorable yourself, what purpose do these overpaid A-HOLES in major league baseball think they are serving by kneeling like a bunch of cowards while real Americans stand?
Do they think they are going to be respected for their cowardly acts?
Do you?
Do you think these overpaid A-HOLES in major league baseball are doing anything for the Black folks by kneeling like cowards?
And to close, here is a letter to The Fayetteville Observer entitled “Letter: Black Lives Matter organization not helping Black community” by Walt Brinker, Eastover, published 18 July 2020, where we American people were informed as follows:
The “cancel culture” is getting out of hand.
Some folks insist on getting rid of anything that offends them, with no concern about what might offend others.
Who can dispute that Black lives matter?
Who can dispute that all lives matter?
But what about the organization, Black Lives Matter?
Go to its website.
Its origins are based partly on two falsehoods: That killers of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown were not acting legally in self-defense.
Actually, there was a nationally televised trial which found George Zimmerman, who shot Martin, not guilty.
Obama’s Attorney General, Eric Holder, investigated the Brown case and cleared Officer Darren Wilson.
BLM’s website’s “What We Believe” section states: “We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and ‘villages’ that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable.”
So, BLM supports the most self-destructive facet of Black culture, fatherless families (73%), which guarantees much higher rates of school dropout, crime, unemployment, incarceration and suicide.
Also, BLM focuses on unwarranted killing of Blacks by police (very few, and exaggerated grossly while unjustly blaming all police), but ignores the hugely greater problem of black-on-black murders.
Check the FBI website for 2018, which shows that the murder rate for black-on-white is 12 times that for white-on-black.
BLM is pushing to defund police, which is resulting in an explosion of violent crime, disproportionately by Blacks against Blacks.
This is anarchy.
How is any of this helping Black lives?
It’s not!
It’s killing them.
So, apparently, only some Black lives matter to BLM.
Yet BLM signs proliferate at civil rights marches.
So, why should non-Blacks not find BLM (the organization) offensive and want to “cancel” it?
And why should they empathize with the civil rights movement when BLM apparently speaks for most blacks?

Any answers, Mary Knight?
Mary Knight says
Look at the video of last Sunday’s service at First Baptist Church, Capeville, for instance. The sermon directly references Gene Kelly’s racist posts. There are plenty of social media threads on the pages of Black community leaders denouncing him as well. The fact that you haven’t seen those threads or videos only proves how disconnected you are from the people here.
Paul Plante says
I guess Gene Kelly is in big trouble deep then, from the sounds of things.
Oh, well.
Paul Plante says
Well, Mary Knight, you certainly are not afraid to step up to the plate and smite the evil wicked-doers among us, and that is to your credit, since so many other people find it all too easy these days to just stay hunkered down in their basements with their masks on waiting for COVID to strike them down.
And since you are the one who knows so much about what is going on down here, why don’t you simple post for us what exactly it was that Gene Kelly is alleged to have posted that is so “racist,” a very stupid, over-used and ridiculous term these days, instead of telling us to go and try to hunt down the social media threads of those you call “Black community leaders” denouncing him as well.
What “social media” threads?
And where?
The fact that I haven’t seen those threads or videos only proves nothing at all, since I don’t do “social media,” and if I did, what are the odds I would see those threads?
I don’t do FACEBOOK, which I think is stupid, so I don’t have access to anything posted there,
I don’t do TWITTER, because I think that is even more stupid than FACEBOOK, so if their threads were on TWITTER, that would account for how I missed them.
And surprisingly, there hasn’t seemed to be a word from any of them in here.
Why?
Because this is a site for white supremacist racists only?
And why would I think to watch a video of last Sunday’s service at First Baptist Church, Capeville?
I’m not a Baptist, although I have heard they are the finest people on the face of the earth, the Baptists, and I don’t attend services at that church, nor did I even know it existed until just now.
So instead of playing this stupid, BULL**** children’s game of telling us to go running all over the place on social media sites looking for this outrage from the Black folks, which is a daily occurrence, them being outraged on a daily basis by something such as a white person letting his or her shadow touch theirs on the sidewalk, and tell us in your words what it was that Gene Kelly said that you think is “racist,” since you are the expert here.
Stuart Bell says
Who do you think you all are to ‘Denounce’ anyone? Who died and left you in charge of him or anyone else for that matter? You tell him he is disconnected, but I have never heard a sole on the eastern shore say ‘Let’s call the ‘Black Community Leaders” to see what they think or who they denounce before we go out to dinner.
Do you know how ignorant that sounds?
Mary says
Mary Knight- We see EXACTLY who the Jay Ford crowd is, and they are a mob of self-righteous elitists salivating at the prospect of a good ole witch hunt- the leftists’ favorite sport.
Stuart Bell says
‘There is no mention here, of course, of the Black community hurt by Gene Kelly’s actions. They are the real victims.’
OK, I mentioned your foolish words. Please explain how hurt your people are. did they miss work? are thy unable to get out of bed? are they loosing weight due to appetite loss? How exactly are they hurting. Maybe you all should turn the other cheek, just like the book tells you too. Tuck those raw nerves back in and live your lives. Others may not wish to appease you any longer.

please answer my very simple questions.
Loraine Huchler says
Here’s what I understand: Mr. Ford believes that Mr. Kelly is a racist based on a single statement on social media.
I’m wondering if Mr. Ford understands that, according to academic, lecturer, consultant and trainer, Robin Diangelo, author of the NY Times Best Seller, “White Fragility, Why it’s so hard for White People to talk about Racism,” all white people are racist due to the centuries of supremacy of white persons (mostly men) in positions of influence and power that has shaped the culture here in the U.S.? Which makes Mr. Ford’s opinion about Mr. Kelly sound either like self-righteousness or guilty denial – behaviors that reflect very poorly on the speaker.
And speaking of opinions – we all have them, and the 1st amendment of our constitution protects each of us, including Mr. Kelly, from violence, libel and slander by those who disagree such as Mr. Ford. In other words, Mr. Ford’s efforts to damage Mr. Kelly’s reputation and business by engaging other persons to make claims of racism and boycott Mr. Kelly’s business makes Mr. Ford vulnerable to legal action for defamation of Mr. Kelly.
It doesn’t matter if you agree or disagree with Mr. Kelly’s statement. Having racist beliefs is not illegal. Racist behavior that damages other individuals – financial, reputation, personal injury, mental trauma – is illegal.
Mr. Ford did not invent this misguided approach to seek justice based on unsubstantiated allegations; CNN (reporter Brian Stelter), recently lost the defamation lawsuit filed by Nick Sandmann (Covington Catholic, Kentucky). Mr. Ford may want to reflect on the consequences of his actions.
Who is the next person that Mr. Ford will accuse of being a racist? Remember, what you say and how you behave tells me so much about your character.
Ray Otton says
Time for a buycott.
Hope Gene’s profits go through the roof.
Well, not through the roof as I understand the building commission is full of woke folk and he might not get a building permit to fix the hole all the money makes.
Let’s say, up to the rafters.
Ray Otton says
Might be time for time for a little counter cancel culture.
Fire with fire folks. It’s the only way they’ll learn, if then.

As someone operating a business, has Gene Kelly ever discriminated against anyone in his employment practices or customer service? I visit Cape Charles 10 to 12 times a year and have had at least one meal each visit at Kelly’s Gingernut Pub. It definitely appeared that the representation of employees and customers exhibited a diverse environment.
Mr. Kelly’s expression of frustration over the combination of political demonstrations with sports should not immediately label him a racist. He, like most people, watch or participate in sports and recreational activities to escape world problems at least for a little while. His method of expression may have offended some people, but he didn’t break any law, therefore public officials and journalists calling for loss of his livelihood because they don’t share his opinion are out of bounds.
Every good citizen was appalled by the death of George Floyd caused by Derek Chauvin. The BLM Organization correctly organized protests (not the riots that followed, maybe by other agitators) to call attention to this injustice. However, the immediate call to defund/disestablish police should be reexamined. A more logical reaction would be to reform erratic police institutions and tactics. Businesses with failing divisions don’t disestablish them. They assign more talented management and increase resources to fix the problem divisions. Public safety requires adequate police presence, but also demands that problem police departments be reformed with better hiring practices, better training, and better accountability. Ironically, reducing police resources in major cities has had the effect of increasing losses of the lives of innocent black infants, toddlers and teenagers. The loss of police protection will cause more damage to innocent black lives than actions of white supremacists could possibly achieve.

I find this all a nightmare that people in this country have no problem jumping onboard to criticize without even having all the information. This has turned into guilty until proven innocent. We are in big trouble.

Amen!
If you are sitting on your front porch while white, you are a racist.
If you are walking whole white, you are a racist.
If you are sitting in your front room while white, away from everyone else, and not saying a word about anything, you are a racist.
If you are white period, you are a racist.
How do we know?
Hillary Clinton told us so, and so it must be, because Hillary is the epitome of perfection on earth.
RICK says
I agree posting something like this to social media was not a smart move, but if this is your belief, own it. Don’t do a “NORTHAM” and remove it as soon as you feel backlash. Mr. Kelly has his followers in CC, that was apparent after the gun incident awhile back where a patron pointed a gun at someone after a fight IN THE BAR and was not reported, with no punishment. Listen, people see how CC is changing with it’s “gentrification” and how that has affected the black community there.Mr. Kelly fits well in that movement with his comments. I wonder though how his supporters would have felt if he would have said “LGBTQ BS”.
Paul Plante says
I think a lot of people, including a lot of Black people, are damned sick and tired of having this “racial justice” BULL**** and this “social justice” BULL**** and the Blacks don’t like this and the Blacks don’t like that jammed down our throats 24/7/365 and being told Black lives matter when anyone reading the news clearly knows from Chicago and Baltimore and Albany, New York, where the gun-crazy Black folks are killing off each other, that to the Black folks, Black lives ain’t worth spit, which, when you really think about it, Rick, and trace slavery back to its roots in Africa, is how you Black folks came to be slaves over here in the first place – some more powerful Black dude over there sold you, is how, because to him and they have names, Rick, like Tippu Tip, a Black dude in Zanzibar who himself owned 10,000 slaves, your lives were meaningless.
Suck it up and stop blaming white folks alive today for all the considerable troubles you people have brought down on yourselves by selling yourselves into slavery.
When that happens, Rick, then and only then will there finally be some peace in our land.
You want to convince people that Black lives matter, then you ought to start acting like they do.
Maybe start by having Black mothers address their children in public by something other than “you little mother******.”

It’s ridiculous to me that people are trying to paint gene kelly as a racist. As a former employee, I worked with plenty of people that were gay, black, you name it. In 4 years of working there, I never once heard or saw an action by Gene that could be condemned as racist. Not supporting a movement and just wanting to watch a baseball game without it being politicized is not a racist thought process. I’m also extremely disappointed in Margaret, who has witnessed first-hand on many occasions how inclusive Kelly’s really is.

Ray, you are an F’ing idiot! The guy’s livelihood could actually be effected by that post and you want to make this out to be a liberal/conservative argument.
If you actually cared for the guy you WOULD STFU. Smart move making this 15 minutes of infamy last a day or two.
I guess you feel quite safe sitting there collecting your retirement.
Ray otton says
Somehow you think that me DEFENDING Mr. Kelly is going to hurt his business? Boy, you have dropped in from Bizarro world.
You think YOU’RE saving Mr. Kelly by advising him to NOT voice his opinion? heh.
And again, what’s with your demands that people shut up?
Haven’t you learned anything about how this works?
That Wayne posts articles meant to arouse your pitiful outrage?
That the more you type the worse you sound?
Rhetorical questions, of course you haven’t, and thank the heavens for it.
BTW, despite you claim to the contrary, of course it’s a Liberal / Conservative argument.
Conservatives don’t go around looking to be outraged and then attempting to destroy lives based on that outrage.
Liberals do.

Problem with these liberals is you have a large group of people that can’t control their emotions. That’s where this PC/cancel culture stems from. They can’t help themselves from being outraged by any and everything so it must be shut down to avoid offending their sensibilities.
Also, if we really wanted to counter-cancel, I bet questions asking into Mr. Ford’s and Ms. VanClief’s drug use would probably get both of them canceled right out of a job.

Ben S says
Social media is a cesspool…
If Mr.Kelly didn’t think his post was inappropriate, would he make the same declaration in his pub full of customers and staff??? I would hope not… I see the calling for a boycott of his business no different than an employee getting fired from their job for posting inappropriate material… Yes he has a first amendment right to say what he wishes, but it doesn’t mean his words don’t have consequences… Especially as a business owner…
And if anyone truly believes that just their profile and posts are really private is just kidding themselves…
Paul Plante says
His comment will draw in 10 for each one it might turn away because he is expressing what the main stream is thinking – people are sick and tired of this POLITICAL BULL**** being connected with sports.
People who are watching sports are watching s[ports because they aren’t watching politics, and don’t want to be, and nonetheless, are going to have it JAMMED in their faces, anyway.
So Gene Kelly was right to voice his frustration with this BULL****, and he was in his restaurant with a TV going in the bar, and instead of baseball, on comes the POLITICAL BULL****, and Gene Kelly were to be heard to exclaim in disgust words to the effect of “oh sweet Jaysus,” or “for the love of Pete, I am so sicj of this POLITICAL BULL****,” he would get a hearty cheer and a standing ovation, because he would be saying what America is feeling – GET THE ******* POLITICAL BULL**** OUT OF MAJOR LEAGUE SPORTS!
FREE GENE KELLY!

Welcome to the Tuesday Comedy Hour at the Cape Charles Mirror starring our own beloved tokenny doing his imitation of Don Rickles, which tokenny does so well you can’t tell him from the original Don Rickles!
Ben S says
What, no “wall of words” response, quoting everything from the Dead Sea Scrolls to ol’ Uncle Charlie’s blue-tick hound, with a sprinkling of sarcastic compliments for good measure??? I’m truly disappointed, my dear friend… 😉
But the fact remains, he didn’t post any of those comments you listed, did he??? I believe what he posted was exactly how he felt and stand by my original post!!!
Now if Mr. Kelly had posted one of the comments you listed, I would have had to agree with him… One of the biggest problem in this country is the fact that EVERYTHING, not just professional sports, has become political… You can’t pass wind without someone’s nose at your arse trying to figure out if the smell drifts left or right!!!
“Free Gene Kelly!” Really??? I must have missed the part where he was detained or incarcerated… The only thing that has happened to him was that he was called out and took a some heat for the poor judgement he showed in posting such a comment on social media… Now if you really want to work to free someone, there are plenty of organizations, both local and national, that work to do just that for people who have been wrongly incarcerated and their lives destroyed through no fault of their own…
Ray otton says
Here’s the problem with your contention that “The only thing that has happened to him was that he was called out and took a some heat for the Poor judgement he showed in posting such a comment on social media”
He did NOT show poor judgement. He merely voiced a mainstream opinion on his own FB page, for which the mob wishes to take him down.
To claim he showed poor judgement is to admit that we no longer have the right to say what we want, that we must be silent or face the consequences of mob rule. ( Is that about right, tokenny?)
Stick around, the push back has already begun and it will be glorious.
Paul Plante says
YES!
tokenny says
Absolutely wrong Ray. You have the right to say anything you wish. Things that you say may have consequences. Would an owner of a Ford dealership say that Fords suck? Yeah, he could say that and depending on where he made that statement his sales could be adversely effected by such statement.
It’s called marketing Ray. You and half the other idiots here can’t seem to understand that. You all believe its some kind of liberal/conservative thing. Are you telling me if he said abortion should be available to any woman who wants it – that the freaking conservatives wouldn’t have their panties in a ball, boycotting? (the only answer to that is yes they would)
You don’t call your wife or daughter ugly even if they may be, right? You have the first amendment right to do that, don’t you? And why don’t you do that ? CONSEQUENCES, Ray that’s why you don’t. Do you understand now??
Ray Otton says
“It’s called marketing Ray. You and half the other idiots here can’t seem to understand that. You all believe its some kind of liberal/conservative thing”
You can stomp your feet, shake your fists and call people names all you want, but that doesn’t change the fact this is a Liberal/Conservative issue.
Heck, Bill Maher, certainly not a conservative, called out Liberals and their toxic cancel culture just this past week on his show. This guy doesn’t agree with anything Conservative in nature, can’t stand Mr. Trump but he sees what the intolerant, toxic Left has done to our national discourse.
You being our local, best example.
So keep typing, keep calling names, keep up the faux outrage, ‘cuz it’s working perfectly.
Ben S says
If Mr.Kelly was just posting a comment that you deem mainstream opinion, then I guess he has nothing to fear from a boycott called by someone outside of your “so called mainstream populists” does he??? All you mainstreamers will keep him in business…
Again, every American has a first amendment right to say what you want, but your words may have consequences… Make a derogatory remark about one of your co-workers… While what you said might be true, it doesn’t mean you can’t be fired over it!!!
Just because a thought comes to your head and you decide to make it public it, doesn’t mean someone else doesn’t have the same right to disagree and be public about it… But just because your wind breaks to the right does not mean you’re automatically right and the rest of us mob has no right to say different…
If the Kelly’s believe they were injured in business or personally because of these three people, then let them seek justice through the courts… Surely there is a First Amendment lawyer somewhere who would be willing to bleed them dry trying…
Paul Plante says
Really?
There are people who have been wrongly incarcerated and their lives destroyed through no fault of their own?
Are you serious?
Where on earth is that happening?
They were incarcerated through no fault of their own?
Why?
Whose fault was it then, somebody else’s?
And who is doing that to people?
Ben S says
Really??? Yes and right here in our beloved United States… People are wrongly convicted to this day… If you believe POTUS, Roger Stone was wrongly convicted of lying to the FBI, and that if he didn’t pardon him, his life would have been destroyed… Must be nice to have friends in high places!!! 😉
Do a quick search on “wrongly convicted cases” if you really care to learn more about others who were not as fortunate…
Back to the original subject…
First Amendment Issue… Okay, lets look at this another way… I guess that once someone who signs a professional sports contract, they lose their first amendments right, or that the professional sports teams, or professional sports organizations as a whole shouldn’t have first amendment rights either… I’ll bet, as someone suggested earlier, that if they were protesting to do away with abortions, to deport all Dreamers, or to do away with the Affordable Care Act, Mr. Kelly wouldn’t have had such a problem with the politics in professional sports much less post something on social media as he did… If he was so feed up with the politics in sports, then that’s what he should have posted about, and not singled out just one group of protesters…
You know no one really gave a rat’s ass about politics in sports until POTUS decided he didn’t like to see some players knelling during the National Anthem and convinced his followers that the players were disrespecting our flag and great military and urged his supporters to boycott (sound familiar??? I guess POTUS is the only one who is entitled to ask for a boycott of a business entity) professional sports… When more players joined in knelling the following week, POTUS bullied the NFL and team owners to put a stop to it or he would find a way to penalize them by changing their tax status… The players knelling had nothing to do with the flag or the military, it was just a simple, peaceful protest against what some players saw as an injustice in our country… Oh, that’s right, they signed a professional sports contract, so they don’t have a first amendment right anymore… Sorry, I forgot…
I applaud the Kelly’s for their inclusive business practices, it’s just a shame Mr. Kelly seems to leave it by the door when goes home…
Paul Plante says
Actually, Ben, I don’t own a television and if I did, the last thing I would be doing is wasting my time watching a bunch of overpaid egotistical A-HOLES playing boring games on TV, so they can do whatever the **** they want to do.
It is America, afterall, isn’t it?
Is it still America?
If it is, then let them kneel while real Americans stand.
Pope Jay Ford is a different breed of cat, because he appears to be collecting federal government money in his paycheck, and if you check out the Hatch Act, which may or may not apply to the Pope, the federal government does not allow federal employees to play politics on their own time the way the Pope is doing.
Paul Plante says
And seriously, Ben, your assertion above that if someone signs a professional sports contract they don’t have a first amendment right anymore is patently absurd.
Signing a professional sports contract no more strips them of their first amendment rights than does operating a restaurant in Cape Charles, Virginia.
They have just as much right to express their opinions as does Gene Kelly.
And people who perceive them as A-HOLES and weaklings and cowards for kneeling have just as much right to say so as do the people denouncing Gene Kelly for expressing his opinions.
And people who think the big-league sports dudes are A-HOLES for kneeling have just as much right to boycott the sponsors of those sports teams that kneel as people who don’t like Gene Kelly have to stay away from his business and deny him their business.
The street does go both ways, you know.
The sports figures have no greater rights than Gene Kelly, and his rights are not inferior to theirs.
Ray otton says
“Back to the original subject…
First Amendment Issue….…blah, blah, blah………..I applaud the Kelly’s for their inclusive business practices, it’s just a shame Mr. Kelly seems to leave it by the door when goes home…”
Whoooo, lotta words there. (BTW, we already have a resident windbag so that slot is NOT OPEN.)
I’ll boil it down for you in less than 100 words.
I detect a good dose of desperation in your equivocations and prognostications over the 1st Amendment. Perhaps you unconsciously realize your arguments are falling on deaf ears.
Mr. and Mrs. Average American knows from actions throughout the nation it is the Left that will attempt to ruin their lives if they don’t bow down.
The responses here on CCM, in support of an upstanding member of the community should be a warning to you, but of course, they won’t.
We thank heaven for your continued blindness.

On the old Eastern Shore I remember, this would have been settled by two men with no involvement of law enforcement or social media.
Why do you people spend your lives on Facebook? Why? Please dont say to keep up with your friends and family. That was all being accomplished, just fine, before the cuck zuckerberg gave you all your addiction.
What do the Black Community Leaders Think of Facebook LOL!
Young Liberal says
They probably lynched black people back in your day on the shore for no good reason too so I’m sure you would love to have that back. You are one of the most hateful people I have ever heard from. Do better.
Stuart Bell says
Bless your heart. No Blacks were lynched in the seventies and eighties on The Shore. But I seem to remember a Black….
Morris Odell Mason (March 28, 1954 – June 25, 1985) was a convicted rapist and murderer who called himself “the killer for the Eastern Shore”.
He was convicted of rape, murder, and arson in the 1978 murder of 71-year-old Margaret K. Hand in Northampton County, Virginia. Mason nailed his victim’s wrist into the seat of a chair and bound her with rope into that chair before burning her home down.
Attorneys for Mason contended that their client was mentally retarded and did not comprehend his crimes, thus warranting the commutation of his death sentence by Governor Chuck Robb. The Governor rejected their appeals after having read internal memos stating that several psychiatric analyses of Mason done by the state during his life of crime showed that Mason had a low IQ but understood his actions. In particular, after killing Hand, Mason took steps to avoid implicating himself by returning to the burning house to recover a bag with his identity papers in it.
Mason pleaded guilty to assault on two teenage sisters the day after Hand’s murder. His combined sentences consisted of one death sentence, seven life sentences, and 100 years of imprisonment for his crimes. According to a report by Human Rights Watch ‘he had so little conception of death that he asked advisors what he should wear to his own funeral, and said cheerfully, on his way to the execution chamber, that a visitor should tell a fellow inmate that “when I get back, I’m gonna show him I can play basketball as good as he can”.’ Immediately before the execution on the electric chair he gave no response when asked for his last words.
At 11:07pm Morris Mason was declared dead in Virginia State Penitentiary.
Bless Your Heart…

Colleen Kelley says
This it to Mr. Ford and all those that think of this as a sport to destroy a person’s life and business from a comment…I would love to look back in the past of all these nasty souls and see just how “good” they apparently always have been. So perfect, not ever a bad word. That is impossible. Mr. Ford you seem to think you are just destroying Gene. You know so little. We employ anyone we feel can learn the business and have taken many of the young people from the town and beyond and many have grown up with us. They are the neighborhood kids, my son’s friends and students from the local schools. I have loved them and having them and seeing them grow. You are not just destroying Gene but much more. I am a single mom and I work a full time job apart from the pub. I am half owner and yes a woman. I have taken out loans on my home, 401k, given up bonuses and stock from my job in order to make payroll for our employees because in my eyes they always come first to be paid and color has never entered into it. I am so disappointed in all that have no loyalty to a business that is attached to real people that took a risk in this town so many years ago. There are days during the winter when our overhead was more than what we took in but we wanted so badly to provide a service to our locals and remain open. We also wanted to make sure that our long term employees had enough hours to make ends meet. So yes we have many times let our heart rule over good business sense. We took the risk. Never ever did color enter into in who got hours or who didn’t. I have loaned money to many of our employees in their times of need and color did not factor in. If Mr. Ford you think it is just about money you are wrong. If that was the case we should have gotten out of this long ago. Have you seen the vehicles we drive? Have you seen our homes? No you have no idea. We put back in the pub constantly. My great grandmother was full blooded Cherokee living on a reservation. My grandmother canned vegetables with her best friend Renie who was black. My sister married a black man and we welcomed him into our family. So you go ahead with your plan to shut us down for one comment made not by me. This affects many. Mr. Ford I am a big one to believe in what goes around comes around. You know so little.
Paul Plante says
Very well said, but you are talking to a self-righteous holier-than-thou with a firmly closed mind in the case of this Mr. Ford, so it is doubtful he will hear a word you have said, nor will he likely even pay attention, so sure he is of his own divinity which confers on him omnipotence and omniscience which in turn give him, like Hillary Clinton, infallibity.
Ray Otton says
Which is pretty much what I wrote this morning……………………to his boss at the Foundation. Along with similar communications to The Nature Conservancy and the Northampton County Administrator for the other two woke warriors.

Ray Otton says
Ok, so for those of you who prefer to stay out of the cesspool known as Facebook, here in their response to our complaints about Mr. Ford overstepping the bounds of his job description:
“The Chesapeake Bay Foundation stands in full support of our employee, Jay Ford. Jay’s efforts to honor the full range of the Chesapeake region’s heritage are being taken on his own time……….While we are sad to see you go we believe in the change occurring around us.”
So, it seems the entire organization is now behind the effort to persecute Mr. Kelly for voicing his opinion, including, as pointed out by Wayne on his FB page, lying about Mr. Ford using his own time for this exercise.
Listen up folks. Some of us have been saying this for a while now…………….They’re intolerance for anything other than their ideology is unacceptable so if you value your presnet life, you will have to pick a side, there is no in between.
Paul Plante says
This becomes more and more surreal and bizarre as the days go by.
Pope Jay Ford of the Church of the Most Holy and Righteous Among Us has called down anathema on an American citizen for improper thoughts, deeds and words!
And here a question arises.
Is the Chesapeake Bay Foundation a totally private organization?
If so, then Pope Jay Ford can do and say pretty much what he pleases.
But if the Chesapeake Bay Foundation is funded by the federal government with funds provided by Congress, then that is a far different story, given that Pope Jay Ford, whose salary appears to be paid out of federal funds, i.e., our taxpayer dollars, has singled out an American citizen for literal destruction of his life and livelihood for the crime or sin in the mind of Pope Jay Ford of having an opinion and expressing it, which is playing politics on his part, which may or may not run afoul of the Hatch Act, which is an avenue yet to be explored here.
And lest anyone like tokenny call me out for being melodramatic or over emotional here when I say that the Pope has singled out Gene Kelly for destruction, let us take a moment to go north to Schenectady, New York, where only recently, a BLACK LIVES MATTER mob of righteous crusaders like the one the Pope is calling out on Gene Kelly worked to destroy an ice-cream stand business, as we see from a Daily Gazette article entitled “Bumpy’s owner arrested for allegedly pointing a pellet gun at protesters in Schenectady – The owner’s truck pulled over by police” by Pete DeMola on June 30, 2020, to wit:
The owner of Bumpy’s Polar Freeze was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly pointing a weapon at demonstrators protesting his besieged business.
David Elmendorf, 35, was charged with two counts of second-degree menacing, both misdemeanors, police said.
Police found him after a traffic stop nearby with a weapon authorities described as a pellet gun.
Local activist Brianna Johnson said Elmendorf, the owner of the ice cream parlor where activists have been staked out for days protesting alleged racist text messages he allegedly sent, pointed the gun at the group.
Elmendorf’s attorney, James G. Mermigis, said earlier his client was in Connecticut on Tuesday to take a mental health break following days of protests outside of his embattled business.
Elmendorf has been fighting back allegations of racism following the appearance of text messages on social media saying he doesn’t hire Black people.
Following demonstrations on Sunday, three Black employees walked out after receiving cash from protesters and promises of future jobs.
Mermigis pointed at their employment as evidence that Elmendorf wasn’t a racist.

When our very own tokenny, an expert on these kinds of things if anyone is, tells us that there are going to be consequences Gene Kelly is going to have to face for expressing an opinion in the United States of America where Gene Kelly is as much of a citizen as is Pope Jay Ford and the members of the BLACK LIVES MATTER mobs, there is exactly the kind of consequences he is talking about – a huge BLACK LIVES MATTER mob camped out in front of his business, blocking entry and intimidating any potential customers with their KKK-like intimidation tactics, which takes us back to that Daily Gazette article as follows:
On Tuesday afternoon, roughly 75 demonstrators gathered at Bumpy’s, with tensions exacerbated over an incident that allegedly unfolded overnight Tuesday.
Despite the protesters, signs indicated the business was open on Tuesday, but demonstrators dissuaded any business by sitting down outside and delivering a series of fiery speeches.
City and county sheriff’s deputies were on site Tuesday afternoon to warn the protesters against blocking traffic on State Street, but left by 6:40 p.m..
Afterward, the atmosphere remained tense as the crowd engaged in minor skirmishes with motorists attempting to enter or leave Shirley Lane, which organizers blocked.

There are the consequences tokenny is talking about – a BLACK LIVES MATTER mob coming to Cape Charles to destroy the Gingernut Pub and Gene Kelly along with it, which takes us to an Albany, New York Times Union story entitled “Differing versions of Bumpy’s gun scare emerge – Lawyer says racist texts not from his client, who is charged with menacing” by Paul Nelson on July 2, 2020, where the story continues as follows:
SCHENECTADY – The attorney for embattled Bumpy’s Polar Freeze owner David Elmendorf denies his client is a racist and said they’ve hired a private investigator to learn why Schenectady County, who he plans to sue, and others seem to be working together to try to destroy the businessman.
Lawyer James Mermigis said Wednesday that Elmendorf pulled out what police have said was a pellet gun during Tuesday’s protest around Bumpy’s in a bid to save a friend from a beat-down by a group of demonstrators.
“He categorically denies every allegation, he’s not a racist, he has young people of all races working for him,” he said.
“It’s an organized plan, we just haven’t figured out by whom to really destroy this man’s reputation.”
Mermigis also stressed that text messages attributed to Elmendorf, where the sender refers to blacks in derogatory terms and proclaims the business doesn’t hire blacks, were not from his client.
Mermigis also decried that the Schenectady County Attorney’s Office failed to verify who is behind those racially charged texts and then “leaked” to the press a letter Monday to the state Attorney General’s Office requesting a civil rights probe, a violation, he said, of state “several privacy laws.”
County Attorney Chris Gardner said the paperwork wasn’t leaked, he sent it to media outlets, and that he was “proud” of the action his office took.
“We in good faith believe that Elmendorf wrote those texts and has made numerous other racially charged statements verbally,” he adding, there is videotape evidence to back that up.
“We had a good conversation with the Attorney General’s Office today and we’re going to be working very closely with them.”
“Based on this leak, he’s a racist, he can’t operate his business, he was threatened that if he opened the business, he was going to get killed, we don’t even know who these people are,” Mermigis added.

Ah, yes, people of America, as our very own tokenny who is so much smarter than the rest of us combined has said, these are the consequences now facing not only Gene Kelly, but the people of Cape Charles, as well, which takes us to another Albany Times Union story entitled “Bumpy’s employees walk out amid protest against alleged racist operator – Hundreds rally against ice cream shop owner’s alleged racist text messages” by Cayla Harris on June 28, 2020, where we learned more about the “consequences” tokenny is promising, to wit:
SCHENECTADY – More than 200 people gathered on Sunday outside Bumpy’s Polar Freeze, a popular ice cream parlor, to rally against store owner David Elmendorf, who allegedly sent text messages using racial slurs and saying he doesn’t hire black people.
The demonstration was peaceful and passionate, with protesters blocking part of State Street in front of the restaurant for more than two hours.
The protest culminated in the shop shutting down for the evening around 6:15 p.m. – three hours earlier than usual – and three employees walking out, saying they’d quit.
“We set this up today … to eradicate white supremacy in our home.”
“There’s no space for it here,” said organizer Mikayla Foster, 21, who was born and raised in Schenectady.
“It looks a lot of different ways.”
“I think people get it confused, that the only thing we’re fighting against is police brutality, but that’s not the case.”
“We’re fighting against every system that is set to discredit us, disenfranchise us, dismantle us as a people.”
Foster, who works with the community organizing group All of Us, led the crowd for much of the protest, kicking off the event by directing a group of roughly 75 people who had shown up at 4 p.m. from a side road to the sidewalks in front of Bumpy’s and much of State Street, blocking traffic.
Within an hour, more than 200 people had arrived with signs ranging from “Shut racists down” to “Be kind.”
They chanted and danced together in front of the shop.
“We are active and ready to move forward against oppression, against black and brown people dying, against white supremacy – the same white supremacy you see at Bumpy’s over here today,” Foster said at the start of the protest.
“They have been operating on systems of racism and oppression for years now.”
“It’s a damn shame, because they didn’t know that Schenectady came with heat like this.”
“So, today, what the (expletive) we’re going to do is shut it the (expletive) down.”
The group did what was promised – at least for Sunday.
There were at least five employees inside Bumpy’s Sunday afternoon, and by the end of the event, three had walked out.
All were black men.
The protest gradually moved from the street to the lot directly outside the ice cream parlor, as demonstrators held a sit-in in front of the venue for about an hour.
As attendees inched closer to the shop around 5:15 p.m., some protesters started collecting money for the employees, saying they would buy them out of working for the restaurant.
Attendees raised at least $270 for each of the men who left and promised to help them find new jobs.
Organizer Khalifa Jackson, 27, of the group BLX, said Sunday’s protest was just the first step in taking down a number of businesses in local communities “that are built on the foundation of white supremacy and are allowed to thrive in these environments.”
Her organization also helps locate and augment community resources for black children; she advertised a community cleanup at Jerry Burrell Park scheduled for July 19.
“I think we had a really good turnout today,” Jackson said.
“A lot of people are very passionate here, so of course emotions run high.”
“We’re very frustrated, we’re tired at the end of the day – but I feel like we definitely maintained our initial purpose and mission, which was to shed light on what is going on in this establishment and bringing the community together to remind them just how much we’re worth and how much our lives are valued.”
The protest was swiftly organized after racist text messages allegedly sent by Elmendorf surfaced on social media last week.
By Friday, Gardner had asked the state attorney general’s office to conduct an immediate civil rights investigation into Elmendorf’s “discriminatory and illegal actions.”

Jews were considered such in the 1930’s, teachers in in the 1970’s Cambodia too. We know what happened there.
In fact, every totalitarian regime in history has made some group out to be a public menace to the general citizenry.
At the moment we suffer from “safety” Nazis so YOU are in GREAT company with your idiotic remark.
However, Americans are beginning to will that systemic racism isn’t a thing but systemic Liberalism is.
Not classic liberalism, which is about individual liberty but what should properly be called Progressivism. An ideology which limits economic and personal rights and forces individuals into demographic boxes.
Think I’m way off base? Look through the comments of journalists, Democrat politicians, Hollywood stars or even a liberal in your own life. See if you can find ANY deviation from the approved liberal dogma. None to be found.
Why? Because the entire philosophy is a lie and a scam. Only a country so prosperous, so free and secure could be so frivolous as to indulge a political philosophy that embraces such a ridiculous idea that our country is actively, systematically, discriminating against people based on the color of their skin.
We now know from recent actions that systemic liberalism infects all aspects of society
We have mayors, governors, congressmen and senators cheering on political violence. Public property is destroyed and citizens are imperiled while these leaders demand they disarm and not leave their house without sporting a face mask. Normal citizens are shamed for protesting draconian lockdowns without wearing masks and a week later violent rioters are put forth as patriots while doing the same thing.
These same leaders back defunding their own police departments while at the same time constricting citizens rights to defend themselves with a firearm.
You think Mr. Average American isn’t taking note of this insanity proposed by Democrats and hyped by the media? heh.
Polls indicate about 75% of the public agrees that mainstream media is a big part of systemic liberalism, with the conformity of what it covers and WHAT IT COVERS UP.
Demand journalistic objectivity? That’s racist!
Free expression of ideas? That’s unsafe!
So right here in America, we have journalists demanding that people be punished for writing things that are contrary to the approved narrative.
How could that ever go wrong?
Scientists offer scientific findings that support the liberal narrative, not the scientific method. See, the NEW scientific method is determining what’s woke and working backwards from there to get the desired results.
And those results end up claiming one day we’ll all die if we let our kids play in the park, but then the next day we hear we’re immune to the pandemic ……………..but only if our hearts are woke enough.
In people’s private lives, tiresome “Karens” scold others on social media for failing to post the right nonsense on their Facebook pages. They do not want to hear what you have to say, they only want to hear their opinion repeated back to them. Sound familiar?
Children rebel against whatever it is suburban children have to rebel against by announcing on Twitter that they are cutting off their parents because their parents are insufficiently woke. Except for that monthly rent check, daddy.
All of it is all based on a lie, just like everything liberals say about Mr. Trump and the rest of middle America is a lie.
Who wants to punish people for their speech? Liberals like Mr. Ford, Ms. Sturgis, Ms. Van Clief and YOU.
Who wants to discriminate among people based on their race? Also Liberals.
And who wants this hate to continue and even grow because they see harnessing it as their means to take power? Again Liberals. Tiresome isn’t it?
So faced with all of this is would seem we are at the point of repudiating systemic liberalism.
Get ready for the backlash, all you woke little boys and girls.

Young Liberal, you ought to take a real hard look at yourself in the mirror, and what you will see staring back at you is a young stupid person who bandies about the term “liberal” as if it meant something, which it doesn’t, being merely an empty label devoid of concrete meaning, the proof of which is your ridiculous and inane statement that people in here, and presumably the editorial staff don’t believe in “free speech.”
Were that the case in actuality, as opposed to your mind, you wouldn’t be posting in here, now would you?
The thing about “free speech” here in the United States of America, which is directly linked to freedom of thought and expression.
To help you out of your considerable ignorance here, in the United States of America where I am, freedom of expression is an important human right which is essential for a society to be democratic.
It enables the free exchange of ideas, opinions and information and thus allows members of society to form their own opinions on issues of public importance.
FORM THEIR OWN OPINIONS, Young Liberal!
Can you comprehend that?
Are you even capable of comprehending that?
It means people get to make up their own minds, which means that sometimes, if you have something rational and logical to say, based on FACTS, people will adhere to your cause or take your words to heart and act on them.
But when you talk like somebody born without a functioning brain and start calling people “racists,” which has to be the most over-worked and stupid term to come down the pike in a long, long time, then people are going to form the opinion that you are nothing more than an idiot and moron, and they are going to use their freedom of speech to make you aware of the fact!
That is the way things work here in the United States of America!
We are a FREE people here, and we do not dance to a tune because somebody calls themselves a “liberal,” generally thought to be a person with an empty head driven by passion and blind emotion like yourself who thinks everybody who doesn’t dance to your tune has to be a “racist.”
Is that something you can understand, do you think?
Young Liberal says
okay so athletes have the right to share their voices on whatever matters they want on their massive platform. Just because the platform you have only reaches a very limited number of people doesn’t mean you aren’t doing the same thing as them. They kneel to bring attention to an issue of systemic racism on the platform provided for them. Kneeling has nothing to do with the military or the flag. You seem like what some might say as a smart person so maybe you get it. Either way you’re being a bit hypocritical.
Ray Otton says
Ah yes, the “systemic racism” trope.
The claim that the difficulties the black community faces are explained by white systemic racism is in itself bigoted and must be challenged.
Unfortunately the claim is being treated as the truth without serious consideration of its flaws, or the racist implication that black people are unable to deal with these issues.
Consider the proportion of black incarcerated Americans. This is used to characterize the criminal justice system as anti-black. However, this requires a significant suspension of rational thought. (Easy for you, I know)
You see, black people are not incarcerated at higher rates than their INVOLVEMENT in violent crime would predict.
FBI data indicates a massive imbalance in crimes committed by race with the black race far outpacing the rest of the field. One example – blacks make up 13% of the population but commit 42% of the murders. So, when a white woman crosses the street to avoid a black man she isn’t being a racist, she’s being a realist.
In addition, if the criminal justice system is white-supremacist, why is it that Asian Americans, Indian Americans, and Nigerian Americans are incarcerated at vastly lower rates than white Americans?
Odd sort of white supremacy, no?
The fact is, the vast majority of violence visited on the black community is committed by black people. There are no marches for these victims so the message is clear to middle America. Black lives only matter when whites take them. Black violence is expected, but white violence requires explanation and demands solution.
Do you not see how monstrously bigoted this is? (Rhetorical question, true bigots never see their own faults)
Interesting too, why is there no discussion of nonblack victims of black violence, who proportionally outnumber black victims of nonblack violence by a significant margin. If you look at the numbers (I know, numbers are scary things), blacks are preying on all other races, quite the opposite of the claims made by Liberals.
Then there’s the claim that black intraracial violence is the product of slavery and other injustices. This is a false historical claim.
For instance –
1 – Japanese American internment during WWII and the massacre of European Jews haven’t led to equivalent rates of dysfunction among Japanese and Jewish Americans.
2 – Arab Americans were viciously demonized after 9/11, as have Chinese Americans more recently. However, both groups outperform white Americans in all educational tests, as do Nigerian Americans, who incidentally have black skin.
Unfortunately, no discussion of these facts is possible in the current national climate. The white racism explanation being provided by BLM, the media and the Democrat Party and lapped up by sycophants like you.
And then, to avoid having to answer some pretty tough questions over that explanation, disagreement is declared racist.
As you are experiencing here on the CCM, too bad it’s not working.
Paul Plante says
A bit hypocritical?
Not hardly.
I don’t watch pro sports on TV because I don’t own a TV, and I don’t own a TV because I consider the thing to be a constantly-running sewer outfall, and who would want a sewer outfall coming into their homes, and if I did own a TV, I wouldn’t watch or sports because I don’t really see any value in watching a bunch of supposedly grown-up men playing games I played as a child, but have since moved on from, and if I did like sports, I wouldn’t watch pro sports because really, who wants to watch cowards kneeling like cowards?
And your statement that they kneel to bring attention to an issue of systemic racism on the platform provided for them is absurd because, POINT I, unless you are reading their minds, and more power to you if you can, because most can’t so for you, it is a rare talent, you have no idea what they are kneeling for or why they are kneeling, and POINT II, your contention about “systemic racism” is patent horse**** in a country with a BLACK president, a BLACK Supreme Court Justice, BLACK members of Congress, a BLACK Chairman of the Military Joints Chiefs of Staff, BLACK military officers, and millions of BLACK people who are doctors and nurses and other professionals who just like the white folks get up i the morning and go to work, often as the boss of white people if your pea brain can imagine that, and raise their families to be decent law-abiding and often very polite citizens of the United States of America.
Of course, people like yourself who are unable to think and easy to program would label them “Uncle Toms” and “Oreo Cookies, black on the outside and white inside,” n’est-ce pas?
So much for your “systemic racism,” which is a CROCK!
It is an excuse the losers out there use to explain to the world why they are losers, which is always the fault of somebody else, not them.
You want to back the losers, so be my guest.
I’m on the side of the “Uncle Toms” and the “Oreo Cookies,” myself.

hi says
politics belongs in sports if athletes have a strong opinion about a certain matter. The BLM movement is something they fully believe in so why would you want to suppress their voices? Don’t they get freedom of speech too?
Ray Otton says
So, you are saying that people who strongly believe in something have an absolute right to express themselves and not suffer suppression of their freedom of speech.
Does that apply to multi-millionaire sports figures or can a middle class pub owner expect equal treatment?
Paul Plante says
Suppress their voices?
Suppress what voices?
They aren’t saying anything you moron – they are KNEELING like submissive cowards do when confronted with something that scares them, the way a small dog, on seeing a bigger dog coming, will immediately assume the scared and submissive position of lying there on their back with their little paws in the air.
The BLM movement is something they believe in only if they hate civilized society here in America and want to destroy it, doing away with our stable, law-abiding and productive nuclear families and dismantling cisgender privilege and building a space that is free from environments in which men are centered, like PRO SPORTS while fostering a queer‐affirming network while freeing themselves from the tight grip of heteronormative thinking and the belief that all in the world are heterosexual, which should really appeal to the football players out there who love to be down on the bottom of a pile of big men all over them.
Paul Plante says
Isn’t freedom of speech here in the United States of America just wonderful, hi?
And my goodness, if people like yourself who aren’t PRO SPORTS HEROES like Ray Rice get to have freedom of speech as you so clearly do in here, and God bless America and the Cape Charles Mirror for that, say I, then most certainly, athletes like Ray Rice who have a strong opinion about a certain matter, like shutting the mouth of his fiance in his case, why, my goodness, shouldn’t they have the same right as you to free speech?
And of course they should and whoever said they shouldn’t?
If somebody said athletes should have less right to free speech than you have, they must hate America and all it stands for is all that I can think.
But tell us, since you seem to be on the inside track here with access to the straight skinny, if the BLACK LIVES MATTER movement, which builds a space that affirms Black women and is free from sexism, misogyny, and environments in which men are centered, is something these athletes fully believe in, then why is SPORTS HERO Ray Rice punching the **** out of his Black fiance in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zo1UMV1GATQ
There is a Black life that didn’t seem to matter all that much to Ray Rice.
So how do you explain that, hi?
Dude was a little tensed up after the big game on TV and just needed to blow off a little steam?
Is that your read on it?
And if the BLM movement, which seems to have come out of Black women finally getting sick and tired of Black athletes like Ray Rice using Black women as their personal punching bags, is something these athletes fully believe in, then why is it that those of us who bother to stay informed about issues read that domestic violence perpetrated by male athletes upon their intimate partners or family members is one of the most common off-field crimes that affects sports administration?
‘Roid rage, maybe?
And while we are on the subject of Black women finally getting tired of being treated as objects, not people, by Black men like Ray Rice, did you know, or had you heard that there is an ongoing struggle among sporting leagues, governments, and viewers to address the increasing number of domestic violence incidents committed by athletes that come to the sporting public’s attention?
Were you aware that the NFL, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), National Basketball Association (NBA), and the sport of boxing employ and promote athletes who have committed domestic violence, which presents a dilemma when their offending becomes public knowledge?
Are those the professional athletes whose rights you want us to respect, when it is quite obvious that they don’t respect the rights of others, which is why there is a BLACK LIVES MATTER movement today started by Black women tired of being treated as less than human by Black men?
Going back to these kneelers like Kaep, most prominent are instances of domestic violence that are reported as being perpetrated by members of the NFL, due largely to the immense popularity of the sport in the United States and the role models the sport’s participants are expected to be.
Role models the sport’s participants are expected to be, but role models as what?
High-paid people who can do whatever the **** they want to do because they are in PRO SPORTS, and in America, nobody ***** with PRO SPORTS figures because having more rights than those of us who are not in PRO SPORTS, they are untouchables?
Moving right along here with respect to the super rights these athletes have compared to the rest of us, were you aware that domestic violence among athletes is most often perpetrated by collegiate and professional athletes, and not surprisingly, women are most often the victims during these perpetrations of violence, because as their kneeling reveals, they are cowards at heart, because only a coward would beat a woman.
That is the type of role models they are to me, anyway, which is one of the reasons I don’t watch PRO SPORTS.
With respect to hero-worshiping these athletes, did you know that the criminal behavior of football players has been studied more than that of other players in other sports, and one of the NFL’s biggest problems off the field is domestic violence?
And in almost every case, the domestic violence involves male athletes who play violent sports physically abusing wives or girlfriends.
For example, in 2010, starting running back Steven Rashad Jackson of the St. Louis Rams, a Black dude, was accused of beating up his girlfriend while she was nine months pregnant with his child, and his former girlfriend, Supriya Harris, said that Jackson “forcibly grabbed my arm, flung me against the door and repeatedly pushed me to the ground.”
That’s why there is a BLACK LIVES MATTER movement today, because of those Black women having the **** kicked out of them by Black men which is why their goal is to build a space that affirms Black women and is free from sexism, misogyny, and environments in which men are centered.
Do you really think that these cowardly athletes that kick the **** out of women who they treat as objects, not people, fully believe in that?
RICK says
Listen people the bottom line for all of this is A typical big mouth Northerner got smoked on Facebook for HIS comments. What’s the old saying ” it’s better to be thought a fool, then open your mouth(or post on Facebook) and remove all doubt”.
Paul Plante says
Rick, God bless God for sending us you down here to us on earth to show us all the error of our ways!
Tim Kellam says
Mr Jay Ford and Mr Payne need to leave monuments alone in Eastville!!! worry about Cape Charles not Eastville !!!!P.S. if you don,t like KELLYS Pub then don,t go there !! Gene Kelly has a good restaurant.
Stuart Bell says
You better check with the, so-called, Black Community Leaders. My Goodness, you would not want them to denounce you. LOL!
Paul Plante says
To be polite, you should use his correct title, which is POPE Ford.
It is sacreligous to address him as a mere mister.
It strips him of his divinity.
tim kellam says
Pope Ford needs to go back to va beach where he came from
RICK says
If Mr. Ford’s correct tile is the POPE then your must be GRAND WIZARD, huh. All your comments reinforce how systemic the racism problem has become.
Paul Plante says
Watch where you step, Rick, because your pea-sized brain is laying around on the ground somewhere and you don’t want to step on it and squish it.
For the record, I love the colored folks, or Negros, and persons of color, whatever name they are going by at the minute.
It’s A**HOLES I can’t abide and never really could.
And this “systemic racism” horsecrap you are always spewing about is BULL****, but you are too stupid, not having a working brain, to realize it.
Answer me this, moron – if there is “systemic racism,” then how in the hell did we ever end up with a BLACK president?
Or wasn’t he really BLACK?
And if there is “systemic racism,” then how did that BLACK cop in Minneapolis who watched to make sure George Floyd as really dead ever become a cop?
If there is “systemic racism,” how come there is a BLACK caucus in the United States House of Representatives?
You are so ******* stupid it’s a miracle you know how to breathe.
Stick your “systemic racism” back up your *** where you pulled it out from because it is a stupid term.
And my great-great grandfather died down south fighting to set the Black folks free, so how about you give him some thanks for your freedom, you ingrate.
Paul Plante says
And let me help you out with some logic here, Rick, since you seem nice:
POINT I: GRAND WIZARDS belong to the KKK.
POINT II: The KKK are a DEMOCRAT terror group.
POINT III: I am not now, nor have I ever been, nor will I ever be a DEMOCRAT!
POINT IV: Ergo, I cannot be a GRAND WIZARD of the KKK!
See how simple it is, Rick, when you don’t have your head in your *** like you do, to do some simple math to work these things out in a logical fashion before you do what you did, which is to jump onto a platform with a global reach to demonstrate to all the candid world out there who hang on your every word just how ****** stupid you are?
And if there is this “systemic racism” you are always on about to show your ignorance on a daily basis, how come there are BLACK billionaires here in America?
How can that be?
Because they are “Uncle Toms?”
Because they are “Oreo Cookies, BLACK on the outside but white inside?”
Or is it because they got off their dead asses and went out and made something of themselves instead of being a ******* loser like you, spending your days whining about “systemic racism,” a concept you pulled out of your own *** because in the real world, it does not exist, otherwise there would not be Black billionaires and Black doctors, and Black lawyers and Black Army generals and on and on and on and on.
And Rick, have yourself a real glorious day and thank my great, great grandfather and all the other veterans who died in the Civil War fighting to set your people free so that a loser like you can get to whine on a daily basis on the Cape Charles Mirror, which incidentally, does not discriminate against you, which is a sure sign that there is no systemic racism in here.
tokenny says
POINT II: The KKK are a DEMOCRAT terror group. – That’s wrong why don’t you go look that up.
For someone who thinks they know history – half the time you are wrong.
Paul Plante says
Uh, yeah, sure, right, right, whatever you say, tokenny, and let me say as a fan that Sundays at the Cape Charles Mirror without you sticking your nose in the door just wouldn’t be the same, especially when I am having my morning coffee (coffee is good for you, you know, tokenny, as it can improve energy levels and make you smarter, a real good reason for you to start slugging it down by the gallon, and it can help you burn fat, not a bad thing if you want to grow old with some grace and dignity as opposed to sitting there as an obese lump of fat, and it can drastically improve physical performance, so if you wanted to try your hand at, say, surfing the big waves at Makaha or the fast and furious waves at Makapu’u Beach, coffee would help you get there as it contains essential nutrients, and this is important for you, tokenny; it may protect you from Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia).

Ku Klux Klan
History.com Editors
Founded in 1865, the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) extended into almost every southern state by 1870 and became a vehicle for white southern resistance to the Republican Party’s Reconstruction-era policies aimed at establishing political and economic equality for Black Americans.
Its members waged an underground campaign of intimidation and violence directed at white and Black Republican leaders.
Though Congress passed legislation designed to curb Klan terrorism, the organization saw its primary goal – the reestablishment of white supremacy – fulfilled through Democratic victories in state legislatures across the South in the 1870s.
Ray Otton says
“POINT II: The KKK are a DEMOCRAT terror group. – That’s wrong why don’t you go look that up.
For someone who thinks they know history – half the time you are wrong.”
But the other half? –
(https://www.thirteen.org/wnet/jimcrow/stories_org_kkk.html)
“Dressed in robes and sheets, intended to prevent identification by the occupying federal troops and supposedly designed to frighten blacks, the Klan quickly became a terrorist organization in service of the Democratic Party and white supremacy. Between 1869 and 1871 its goal was to destroy Congressional Reconstruction by murdering blacks and some whites who were either active in Republican politics or educating black children.”
If you do a fact check you will find the accusation that the KKK was founded by the Democrat party listed as false. While technically this is the case, empirically the KKK was indeed the armed enforcement wing of the Democrat party.
In addition here is a list of politicians who were active in the Klan before entering politics ( Notice anything?):
Robert Byrd (D)
Hugo Black (D)
Theodore G. Bilbo (D)
John Brown Gordon (D)
Joseph E. Brown (D)
Elmer David Davies (D)
Clarence Morley (D)
Bibb Graves (D)
Clifford Walker (D)
George Gordon (D)
John Tyler Morgan (D)
Edmund Pettus (D)
John W. Morton (D)
William L. Saunders (D)
John Clinton Porter (D)
Benjamin F. Stapleton (D)
Indeed, President Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, shared many views with the Klan. He re-segregated many federal agencies and screened the first movie ever played at the White House – the racist film “The Birth of a Nation,”…………………… originally entitled “The Clansman.”
A few decades later the congressional opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 came from Democrats. 80% of Republicans supported the bill and less than 70 percent of Democrats did. In fact, Democratic senators filibustered the bill for 75 days until Republicans mustered the few extra votes needed to break the logjam.
DO NOT piss in our ears while telling us it is raining.
Thomas D. Giese says
Don’t encourage them, there is a monument in Cape Charles that has ,so far, avoided the rath of the modern day goths, visa goths, Huns, gesatapo,KGB: known affectingly today as WOKES. Compared to the
List above woke don’t seem too intimidating
Publius Americanus says
Every athlete has every right to make themselves heard.
With the salaries they are paid, and the fame a associated with professional sports, TV time should not be difficult to obtain.
To detract from the product paying those salaries, to the detriment of future athletes is asinine, and bad business.
From a viewer perspective, I did not “pay”(via cable subscriptions and stadium bonds) to view A and am now forced to watch B.
But please, tell me why Tim Tebow was denied HIS free speech on the field?
Curious as to how ‘…..that was different cuz reasons’.
Stuart Bell says
Grown black men in tights, playing child’s games with balls, making millions, preaching white privilege gets my hackles up. Then you have ‘Give me a Hug Oprah’ saying the same. It is well past the time to check these idiots and stop the madness….but people cant utter a word because they are scared of being called the meaningless word ‘Racist’.
Ya’ll better get your voices back, and soon!
Douglas Luther says
Well, Chesapeake Bay Foundation just loss a member ( and my money). I will not support any organization that supports the BLM organization. This is an anti American anti police and a racist
organization bent on destroying this country!
Shame on you Mr. Ford for using the Chesapeake bay Foundation for your political agenda. Shame on you Janet Sturgis, what a great county commissioner you will NOT be! You lost my vote! Margaret Van Clief, please do us a favor. Crawl back under the slimy rock you come from.
If you highly intellectuals follow the money trail you would see what the rest of America sees about BLM. But I see you all are blinded by hate.
I will stand with Gene Kelly. The restaurant has the BEST food around Cape Charles. The service is friendly and professional unlike the other restaurants here.
You snowflakes have been ratting on his establishment long enough.
I will continue to support his fine restaurant and enjoy another cold beer from the money I save from Mr. Ford organization. This is still American, and I will spend my money in the places I choose. And that will be Kelly’s. God bless you sir!
