Cape Charles Mirror Report – by Wayne Creed
Cape Charles Provisioning is a new food service offered by Laura Pare’ of Windfall Farm in Cheriton. The service, whose web site is www.capecharlesprovisioning.com, offers a menu that changes each week and includes two entrees, a salad, and a soup made from whole food ingredients (organic whenever possible). Customers can order full servings, 1/2 servings, one item, or all items each week. Menu offerings include gluten free and vegetarian options as well as meat/seafood options each week. The menu varies to take advantage of what Laura is harvesting from her large garden, what is available locally, and what is in season. Occasionally when she is inspired by fruits, or holidays, Laura will also offer desserts. Her web site is incredibly easy to use, making it simple even from your phone or tablet, or from her facebook page, to order tasty meals. She puts her menu up on Thursday mornings, accepts orders all weekend through easy payment methods, closes it on Monday morning at 9:am, and you pick up from her farm on Wednesday between 4:30 and 6:30 pm. She will offer a delivery service for an extra charge if needed.
For several years Laura has been selling any extra organic vegetables locally through the farm stand in Cape Charles and to private customers. “I like to add recipes when I can to go with the things I harvest. One time a customer asked me what to do with some kale and then glazed over when I told her how to prepare it into a marvelous salad. Realizing that she would never take the time to do what I suggested, I jokingly said she needed a personal chef”. An idea was born and a relationship that started out as a few dinners, graduated to catering parties, private celebrations, and many other events around town. Since then many other people have indicated they would love to have this service. Not able to cater to everyone’s needs individually, Laura decided this was a good way to offer whole, made from scratch, healthy, meals to busy people who have no interest or time to cook.
“I am passionate about people eating healthy. I think the state of available food in our country is in need of revamping where people should have access to organic and local when possible. It’s my belief that eating right is the key to good health”.
In the past several years there has been a trend of people ordering food online and having it delivered to their doorstep using web sites such as plated.com and blueapron.com. Laura is taking it a step further by actually cooking the food for them and making sure it’s as wholesome, local, and organic as possible so they can feel safe in knowing where their food comes from. Additionally customers can purchase a gift certificate on her site for a loved one recovering from illness, a working parent too busy to cook, a family celebrating the birth of a new child, or anyone wishing to have a middle of the week dinner party. The ways to use this service are endless.
Eventually Laura will be offering a ‘shopping’ service as part of her web offerings. “Since I will be going ATB (across the Bay) for essentials and BPA free containers I can buy for customers while there.”
ORDERING NOTE: Laura will be away from the Shore from Sept 18th to Sept 29th and will not be open for ordering from the web site until Oct 2nd for an Oct 7th pick up /delivery date
