On Thursday, the Cape Charles Town Council voted to sell off the water and wastewater utilities to the lone bidder, Virginia American Water. To do so, the Town also had to divest itself of real town property. All votes were unanimous.
For citizens, the future is still unwritten. What we do know is the Town spent two years, and drained staff resources to make this happen. Whether it was in the best interest of the locals, or VAW is yet to be seen.
The Town will maintain the plant for some time as details are worked out–VAW will not immediately take control, but will provide consulting services as the process moves forward.

“I owe my soul to the company store” somehow comes to mind, as VAW is a “For-profit” company.

You do realize that “nonprofits” make money too? Unfortunately, Cape Charles didn’t

J Wheaton, let me say once more what a great pleasure it is, not only for me, but for literally millions of other Americans like me who comprise the at-home viewing audience of the Cape Charles Mirror, when you deign to come from wherever it is you are when you are not here, to share your extensive knowledge and wisdom with us just common folks who would otherwise not know that non-profits are generally organizations that take on social, environmental or economic missions.
In short, nonprofit organizations exist to improve the quality of life for others, and thank you from a grateful nation for telling us that and making it clear the distinction between nonprofits, and for-profits, which exist to provide ROI for their shareholders.

All to get away from challenging Preserve Communities to pay their obligated share to expand the utility capacity for their ‘permitted’ 3,000 Units. A clear cop-out as the collective thinking is Bay Creek would fail if the town did not bail them out.
In other words, Preserve Communities has no equity and now no skin in the game. Home owners, not just Bay Creepers will pay the piper soon enough.
