The Town advertised an Invitation for Bids (IFB) on October 17, 2024, for Waste Collection and Disposal Services, with a submission deadline of November 7, 2024. Only one bid was received from Davis Disposal Co., Inc., represented by Mr. Michael W. Davis of Craddockville, VA, the town’s current service provider.
Contract Details
The IFB outlined specific requirements, including:
Base Bid Services
- Weekly collection and disposal of solid waste from approximately 1,200 town-supplied 96-gallon containers, with up to two additional bags per container (120 gallons total capacity per container).
- Additional services at the Public Works Yard:
- One eight-yard container (upgraded from a six-yard dumpster in the previous contract).
- Three eight-yard cardboard recycling containers.
- Sufficient eight-yard containers to collect approximately five tons of solid waste weekly from municipal trash cans. Alternatively, the contractor could position a trash truck at the yard for this purpose.
The additional services are included in the per-unit bid price and will not be separately priced.
Financial Details
- Base Bid Price: $19.52 per container, unchanged from the current contract.
- Library Dumpsters: $300.00 for a four-yard recycling dumpster and $326.00 for an eight-yard dumpster.
The Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer reviewed the financials and confirmed sufficient funds are available in the Sanitation and Harbor Funds to cover these costs for the remainder of the fiscal year.
