Tara Ashworth Appointed Rep to Library Board

The Cape Charles Town Council designated Tara Ashworth as the representative on the Library Board following the resignation of former Councilman Andrew Follmer, effective August 31, 2024. The Library Board oversees the Cape Charles Memorial Library and includes seven members, one of whom is a representative from the Town Council. Board members serve four-year terms and meet monthly.

• Town Council Elections: On November 5, 2024, elections were held for three Town Council seats.
• Interim Appointment: During a special meeting on November 7, 2024, the Town Council voted to petition the Northampton County Circuit Court to appoint Tara Ashworth as an interim Council member. Ms. Ashworth was the non-incumbent candidate receiving the highest number of votes and would serve until the current term’s expiration on December 31, 2024.

Dual Role Recommendation

Ms. Ashworth is already a member of the Library Board, and her appointment to the Town Council presents an opportunity for her to serve a dual role as the Council representative on the Board. Staff recommends that the Town Council discuss this matter and consider appointing Ms. Ashworth as the Library Board’s Council representative, effective upon the Circuit Court’s confirmation of her interim appointment.
