On Thursday, the Cape Charles Town Council voted to sell off the water and wastewater utilities to the lone bidder, Virginia American Water. To do so, the Town also had to divest itself of real town property. All votes were unanimous.
For citizens, the future is still unwritten. What we do know is the Town spent two years, and drained staff resources to make this happen. Whether it was in the best interest of the locals, or VAW is yet to be seen.
The Town will maintain the plant for some time as details are worked out–VAW will not immediately take control, but will provide consulting services as the process moves forward.
