Message from Chief Pruitt and the Cape Charles Police.
The Town of Cape Charles is a vacation destination and every year the number of visitors grows, and this year is no exception. A simple reminder to ensure the safety of your belongings, Chief Pruitt and the Cape Charles Police Department are urging all residents and visitors to always lock their homes, vehicles, boats, bicycles, etc., and not to leave valuables in plain sight. The best deterrent to theft is to take a small step and simply utilize the locks on your property. If you see any suspicious behavior, please contact the non-emergency dispatch line at 757-678-0458 and request to speak to a Cape Charles Police Officer.
From the Mirror-This is not the same old Cape Charles it was 15 years ago. Locking your home is a fundamental and practical measure to help prevent crime and protect your property and loved ones. It serves as a deterrent for potential intruders and can significantly reduce the risk of burglary or other unlawful activities.
Locking doors and windows creates a physical barrier that makes it more difficult for unauthorized individuals to enter your home. Most burglars look for easy targets, and an unlocked door or window is an invitation for crime. Locking your home provides peace of mind, knowing that you have taken a basic step to protect your property and ensure the safety of your family members.
Don’t make it so easy. Many burglaries and home invasions are crimes of opportunity, meaning they happen when an intruder spots an easy target. Locking up removes that opportunity.
DDUUUUUUHHH!
Do you mean the honor system doesn’t work in Cape Charles? Go figure.
And if you need the police, don’t worry, the Sheriff’s department will respond.
