Town Manager reports that VDOT has rejected the town’s request to replace back-in angle parking with front, head-in parking. The VDOT response cited that it considers front-in a less safe parking configuration than back-in angle parking.
The town is required to address the safety issue in detail and make several changes and clarifications before VDOT will review the next request. The town has punted the request to its consultant Clark Nexsen for further review.
At this point, citizens may wonder if this has become nothing more than an exercise in futility. After several years now, back-in angle parking should not be an issue. The real issue facing the Town of Cape Charles is that the parking situation, especially in summer, is a complete clusterflubbit (this is a made-up word, but you know what we mean).
Back-in, front-in, who cares. The town just needs to find a place to put all of these cars. How you park really doesn’t matter if there’s nowhere to do it.
