“Southern Co boosts cost estimate, delays timing for nuclear reactors”

    By Reuters Staff

    February 16, 2023

(Reuters) – U.S. energy company Southern Co on Thursday delayed the timing and boosted cost estimates for its Georgia Power utility’s share of two nuclear reactors being built in Georgia.

The Vogtle plant reactors in Burke County, Georgia, already billions of dollars over budget and years behind schedule, are the only nuclear power units under construction in the United States.

    end quotes

Ah yes, years behind schedule and billions over budget!

That is what we excel at!

    Going back to Reuters:

In an investor presentation, Southern forecast Georgia Power costs would rise to $10.593 billion, up from a prior forecast of $10.383 billion in its third quarter results in October.

Southern also pushed back the in service dates for the new reactors to May or June of 2023 for Unit 3 and late in the fourth quarter of 2023 to the end of the first quarter of 2024 for Unit 4.

“After careful consideration and given our experience on Unit 3 and the degree of critical work ahead of us, we are further risk adjusting our Unit 4 schedule,” Southern Co Chief Executive Thomas Fanning said on a call with investors.

Fanning, who will be succeeded by Georgia Power’s CEO Chris Womack in the coming months, said Unit 3 required additional fixes to pipes, a valve and flow through the reactor’s cooling pumps.

He added that the company expects testing on Unit 4 to reveal more needed fixes.

“We’re just trying to get anything we can see right now,” Fanning said.

When Georgia approved the Vogtle expansion in 2009, the two 1,117-megawatt Westinghouse AP1000 reactors were expected to cost about $14 billion in total for all owners and enter service in 2016 and 2017.

Some analysts have estimated total costs, including financing, have ballooned to more than $30 billion following delays related to the pandemic, the nuclear accident at Japan’s Fukushima plant in 2011 and the 2017 bankruptcy of Westinghouse, the project’s former contractor.

  3. And speaking of BIDEN TRANSPORTATION CZAR Peter Paul Montgomery Buttigieg being not only totally incompetent, but untruthful, as well:

    The Washington Examiner

“Biden’s NTSB says that Pete Buttigieg spread disinformation about East Palestine; he needs to go”

    Opinion by David Freddoso

    18 February 2023

    This isn’t my opinion.

These are the facts, as stated by Joe Biden’s own administration.

Pete Buttigieg’s first reaction to the train crash in East Palestine, Ohio, was to lie in an effort to cast the blame on someone else.

He asserted that the crash had occurred because of a regulatory decision that occurred during the Trump administration.

And his assertion was a lie.

NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy told the public in a series of tweets on Thursday that the board was doing everything in its power to figure out what went wrong in East Palestine, Ohio, and how to avoid any future derailments.

Homendy highlighted an argument about the type of brakes the train supposedly would have had if the Department of Transportation wouldn’t have withdrawn a rule under then-President Donald Trump.

Current Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has pointed to that rule, saying it has constrained him and his department.

However, Homendy pointed out that regardless of whether the rule was in effect or not, the train traveling through East Palestine that derailed on Feb. 3 wouldn’t have had the brakes.

The only question now is, why does the Biden administration tolerate a cabinet secretary who deliberately spreads disinformation on social media?

Should the NTSB have to debunk falsehoods from the actual transportation secretary?

    No, of course not.

    Buttigieg is incompetent and dishonest.

He needs to be fired yesterday.

    end quotes

But of course, he won’t be, because he is the DEMOCRAT GREAT WHITE HOPE to be the next Democrat president after Joe Biden passes on the crown and throne, if ever that might be, given Joe’s now-revealed status as an IMMORTAL, the first of his name to ever actually be one, and his sinecure as TRANSPORTATION CZAR allows Peter to run what is in reality a stealth campaign, because Joe and the Democrats gave Peter a TRILLION DOLLARS to hand out as he pleases to buy political support for his real presidential bid, which is truly a real slick deal for not only Peter, but husband Chasten, as well, who will have the honor as Peter’s husband of being America’s first FIRST MAN, which will truly be a historic moment in American history.

When a man shall get the chair (president), who may be re-elected, from time to time, for life, his greatest object will be to keep it; to gain friends and votes, at any rate; to associate some favourite son with himself, to take the office after him: whenever he shall have any prospect of continuing the office in himself and family, he will spare no artifice, no address, and no exertions, to increase the powers and importance of it; the servile supporters of his wishes will be placed in all offices, and tools constantly employed to aid his views and sound his praise.

“Pete Buttigieg Gets Defensive When ABC’s Jon Karl Confronts Him With Poll Showing 58% of Dems Don’t Want Biden to Run Again: He’s Been ‘Historically Successful’”

    Story by Joe DePaolo

    5 February 2023

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg got defensive when confronted with some highly unflattering poll numbers for President Joe Biden.

In an interview on ABC’s This Week, host Jon Karl presented Buttigieg with an ABC News/Washington Post poll showing that 58 percent of Democrats do not want the president to run for reelection, compared to just 31 percent who would like to see him pursue a second term.

“Do you want him to run again?” Karl asked.

“I mean, you saw our poll.”

“Large number of Democrats say they don’t want him to run again.”

Buttigieg bristled, and proceeded to give Biden praise that even his most ardent fans would likely consider to be over-the-top.

“He is an absolutely historically successful president.” Buttigieg said.

He added, “I’m incredibly proud to be part of this team that he has built and to be part of the results that he is delivering.”

“The biggest infrastructure package since Eisenhower.”

“The most significant economic achievement package since since FDR.”

“All, by the way, while having the most the slimmest congressional majority of any new Democratic president in about 100 years.”

“And again, we’re just two years in.”

“So what he’s achieved is extraordinary.”

“One thing this president has done again and again and again, whether it’s politically or whether it’s policy wise, is defy expectations,” he said.

“And it’s one of many reasons why I’m humbled and honored to be part of this team.”

No man will wish to be a mere cypher at the head of the government: the great object of each president then will be, to render his government a glorious period in the annals of his country.

A man who must, at all events, thus leave his office, will have but few or no temptations to fill its dependant offices with his tools, or any particular set of men; whereas the man constantly looking forward to his future elections, and, perhaps, to the aggrandizement of his family, will have every inducement before him to fill all places with his own props and dependants.

    The National Review

    “Biden’s Noxious Decree”

    Story by The Editors

    21 February 2023

A political advantage Joe Biden has is that people tend not to associate him — as a Democrat of a certain age — with the cracked priorities of the contemporary Left.

But 80-year-olds can be champions of radicalism, too, as he’s proved again and again and perhaps never more so than in last week’s executive order “on Further Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through The Federal Government.”

As Biden says at the beginning of the order, his administration has sought to “transform” the federal government with prior executive orders and “has embedded a focus on equity into the fabric of Federal policymaking and service delivery.”

His policy is “to advance an ambitious, whole-of-government approach to racial equity and support for underserved communities and to continuously embed equity into all aspects of Federal decision-making.”

Every major federal department and agency must establish Agency Equity Teams within 30 days.

These teams will be composed of a wide range of officials and have to submit annual plans to a brand new White House Steering Committee on Equity.

    Who will run that office?

    Our old friend Susan Rice.

DEI will become part of the “individual performance plans for senior executives,” and the equity teams will back “continued equity training and equity leadership development for staff across all levels of the agency’s workforce.”

Space prevents anything like a full recitation of the order’s sweep, which might fill the leadership of the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity at Brown University with admiration and envy.

It must be read to be believed.

The federal bureaucracy hasn’t been known heretofore for its political neutrality, and Susan Rice and Co. will be pushing on an open door to get it to fully embrace woke ideology.

Any recusants will presumably be intimidated into compliance, if they don’t decide to leave the federal workforce altogether.

Not for the first time, Biden is acting, at the very least, against the spirit of the constitutional order, in effect adding a new goal to the missions of myriad federal agencies without any authorization from Congress.

The executive order isn’t any less noxious and intolerable because an aged president happened to hand it down.
