With opening night quickly approaching, actors, dancers, set designers and the directors are beginning feel the pressure, as well getting energized as this winter’s show finally begins to take shape. Deathtrap at North Street Playhouse
Deathtrap is a play written by Ira Levin in 1978, and with its many plot twists and the way in which it references itself as a play within a play, almost becomes a caricature of itself, a thriller within a thriller. Deathtrap holds the record for the longest running comedy-thriller on Broadway, running for four years with almost 1800 performances. The published script describes it as “something so evil that it infects all who touch it. The thing has a life of its own. In Deathtrap, Levin has taken the basic components of thrillers and horror stories; murder, deceit, innocent dialogue with hidden sinister meanings, plot reversals, unexpected turns of events, etc., and twisted and rearranged the pieces again and again.” [Read more…]

On Friday, November 13, 2015 the ESO Arts Center will host a rockin’ evening with some of the Shore’s top artists.The Shore Made Sampler with ESO Live! will host the totally groovin’ Groovers (formerly Mr. B’s Band), rockin’ rhythm & blues with Scott & Melinda, the all-time best Americana duo, Heather & Nathan, and one of my favorites, that rockabilly Eddy Dixon. Christmas in New York: The winter show at the Palace
Arts Enter School of Dance has begun rehearsals for this winter’s danceable drama, Christmas in New York. The original script is a combination of dance and stage, incorporating all the music, dance and sites that make up New York, New York. Amy Watkins choreography delights as always, taking the audience along from Grand Central Station, Central Park, Broadway and many other places in the City.
Dates and ShowTime’s are December 19th at 7:30, with a matinee at 1:00 on the 20th.

Science and Philosophy Seminar – Clara Schumann: Reflections of a Life in Music Oct 23rd

Clara Schumann: Reflections of a Life in Music
Science and Philosophy Seminar of the Eastern Shore of Virginia has scheduled its first seminar of this semester, “Clara Schumann: Reflections of a Life in Music.” The free 90-minute seminar will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct 23 in the Lecture Hall of the Eastern Shore Community College, 29300 Lankford Hwy, Melfa, VA 23410.
Lee Jordan-Anders will lead the seminar and, using discussion and piano recital, show how Schumann’s life and times were reflected in her composition and playing.
Jordan-Anders teaches Music at Virginia Wesleyan College; she was the Music Director and Conductor of the Orchestra of the Eastern Shore from 2009 to 2014.
These seminars are occasionally rescheduled or postponed on short notice. Prospective attendees are urged to check the Seminar’s website (www.SciPhi.org) shortly before a scheduled date.
Science and Philosophy Seminar is an informally organized group that meets more or less regularly to explore and discuss a wide array of topics, ranging from philosophical speculation to scientific research. All Seminars are open to the public. Admission is free.

Giddons resigns as Arts Enter Executive Director

Executive Director of Arts Enter Cape Charles, Larry Giddons has resigned his position after being appointed just a few months earlier. Mr. Giddons’ appointment followed an internal shakeup at the organization, which occurred after the stepping down of long time Executive Director, Clelia Shepperd. With Ms. Shepperd’s exit, the Arts Enter Board of Directors, led by New Jersey native Hank Mayer, quickly moved to clean house. This led to the leaving of long-time administrator, Mary Ann Roehm.
